Rami Malek thanks Queen after winning best performance by an actor in a drama film for Bohemian Rhapsody at the 2019 Golden Globes
Remember when we first meet the bearded lady and sheâs in the washroom in the corner using a sheet to separate herself from everyone else? When PT Barnum sees her, she looks down at the ground, embarrassed.
Then later in the movie during the groupâs little staff meeting, as PT Barnum is reading the review, sheâs combing her beard and making sarcastic remarks. Being in the circus gave her more confidence to the point where not only is she taking care of her appearance (what she was originally ashamed of) but sheâs also being sassy to high society critics. Thatâs pretty cool.
âtake me upâ
I love the greatest showman and all his fantastic songs
How many times is Hugh jackman going to carry pretty boys from death
listening to the greatest showman soundtrack makes me happy and inspires me, ok.
critics didnât like it cuz it was too âoptimisticâ and âemptyâ and covered up a âbetter story.â
but PT Barnum was an asshole, OK.
fine, itâs not realistic, but itâs a musical.Â
whatâs wrong with giving PT Barnum a little musical flare and heart?
and whatâs wrong with having an overly hopeful, simple story about rags to riches, accepting diversity, and just enjoying humanity?Â
2017 was an ugly mess.Â
why canât film critics let us have good old fashioned well presented cliches?
like come on, let me draw some joy from silly optimistic nonsense where people sing and dance and care about each other.Â
the greatest showman: features a love story between a black woman and a white man in the 1800s and makes it the central romance of the film and has an entire song of them singing about the odds against them and then the film ends with them taking the risk anyway
you literal demons: but what if we shipped the white guyâŚ. with the other married white guy????
zack efron, dancing on a table: why the fuck would i ever join the circus
The Greatest Showman.
cinematic parallels: you canât take the troy bolton out of the boy
The Greatest Showman
After seeing the trailer for this film at another showing, i immediately downloaded the soundtrack as the âThis Is Meâ song got stuck in my head, and knew this film would be right down my alley. So, just after the madness of Christmas, i went to see it, and it was everything i thought it would be, and more.
As a Costume student, i was enticed by the clothing worn. At the beginning of the film, it was obvious that P.T Barnum and his wife Charity were struggling with money purely through their costumes.
But as the film continues and the show creates more and more money for Barnum, their costumes change dramatically, like a sliding scale from one opposite to another.
Obviously, the extraordinary, never-seen-before acts (or freak show) costumes are the ones that really catch your eye, as you would expect.Â
The Costume Designer - Ellen Mirojnick - did not have an easy task creating costumes for this cast. But each one is unique, reflecting on the personalities and traits of each individual.
As the show continues to bring in more money, P.T Barnum takes a chance on the famous European singer Jenny Lind, whom he hires on reputation alone. After hearing her sing for the very first time, he insists on a tour of America, leaving the show in Philip Carlyleâs hands - the rich gentleman who has risked everything for 10% of the show - and most importantly, leaving his family behind.
The costumes for Rebecca Fergusonâs character as Lind, were all white, mimicking the colour the real Lind wore during the 1850â˛s. The embellishments and fabrics have been extravagantly romanticized - much like the rest of the film - but her presence in these amazing gowns shines through even from a distance.
This film is second-to-none when it comes to the costumes. Theyâre bright and flamboyant, and the whole storyline is one of empowerment and love. A no brainer for anyone that loves a good musical and a plot that pulls on the heart strings
