What I love about this moment is that he’s super shy and unsure of what he’s supposed to do. You can see it in nearly every facial expression. He wants so much to make Belle happy and content with him. He wants her to want to be there. That’s what makes the moment she places her head on his chest is that moment. She is happy. Happy to be there with him. She still has her dreams and she knows she can still achieve them, even in this castle in the middle of the forest. And that’s what makes the whole letting her go scene so much harder for them both. He lets her go because he knows that’s the right thing to do for her, not himself. You see it when he looks down at the rose and the catch in his voice when he tells her to go to her father. And Robby Benson’s voice and Paige O’Hara did a remarkable job portraying all of the emotion there.
