Thinking about Andrew being this bizarre little brother to Renee. No one is allowed to be mean to her. They beat each other up in no holds sparring for emotional regulation and bonding. He ropes her into a scheme to “casually” let Neil know he’s gay and available. She goes along with it. They have a bond no one understands. They discuss fictional hypotheticals at length. They cheerfully mess with the rest of the team. She has a better read on him than most. He gets really angry at her but never threatens her. He lets people say what they want but no one is allowed to be rude to her. He encourages her to heal from her trauma. She gives him her knives. He lets her drive his car. He’d probably menace and threaten any potential love interest on her behalf. He cares about her but trusts her to take care of herself in a way that he doesn’t for any other member of his family. They split up care of the Foxes between them. She genuinely likes and gets along with him. She’s a grounding presence and voice of reason for him. He doesn’t like her friends. That’s his SISTER. He loves and respects her. He’ll try to beat her ass. He won’t succeed. She’s too sweet for her own good. No one is allowed to be mean to her except for him. He’ll go into her dorm, knock something off a shelf. and leave the door open when he leaves. He would T pose on her to establish dominance. He’s just this annoying little gremlin that imprinted on her and now she has a little brother and she’s not mad about it.

i was just thinking about the time period in which aftg takes place (2006-7) and i just realized the first election most of the aftg main characters probably voted in a national election was the 2008 one (which obama won). i wonder what that was like for them

i fucking LOVE fics where andreil vaguely meet when they’re kids. both of them being abused/frightened but giving each other some semblance of hope and protection.

i especially like when neil immediate becomes protective of this strange kid he’s just met (andrew) who’s clearly being hurt. also when andrew hammers it into neil that he needs to start looking out for himself and taking care of himself and tells him that neither of his parents should ever hurt him. both of them teaching the other they’re worthy of love and care.

and then when they meet each other again, it’s like all those feelings of safety and love return all at once. the loyalty. the tension when other feelings arise. not wanting to ruin this precious thing they have. the safety.

when i see “childhood friends to lovers” anywhere on ao3 i will IMMEDIATELY read it. it always slaps.

I know jerjean is probs endgame in canon but imagine renee and jean met up after years, jean is a pro and renee a coach and boom its the right time! which booktok book(s) i think would the aftg characters like

andrew: a good girl’s guide to murder by holly jackson. you cannot convince me this man is not a true crime fan and did not watch criminal minds in the good years of 2006-7. he would love the plotlines and his favorite characters would be gideon and reid.

neil: babel by rf kuang. was hesitant going in but heard it was about linguistics. fell in love with robin and victoire and read the second part of the book in three hours. really liked the annotations at the bottom of the page. thinks about the book everytime he has a dream or thought in french or german. (he told jean to read it. jean told him to fuck off, then he read the book and cried. left neil an angry french voicemail. it is now also jean’s favorite book, and they both decide that kevin needs to read the poppy war trilogy too).

dan: percy jackson by rick riordan. leant them from someone in the trailer park and read each one with accumulating speed. was convinced she was a demigod from ages 10-14 (and especially a kid of zeus’).

aaron: six of crows by leigh bardugo. got intrigued by peaky blinders comparisons and got to reading. shipped kax and inej HARD.

nicky: all the bright places by jennifer niven. read it in middle school and never moved on from it.

renee: the raven cycle by maggie stiefvater. she reads more than the average fox and stumbles upon the raven boys, immediately causing her to fall in love. she clocks adam immediately and honestly thought he was in love with gansey before ronan’s pov in dream thieves. loves blue with her whole heart. subtly tries to get andrew to read these books (with no results so far, she thinks. little does she know he read them and immediately clocked ronan.)

matt: shatter me. he thought it would be cringe at first but when the juliette/aaron thing starts happening he’s glued to the page. hates adam with his whole heart after the third book. read the whole groshaverse afterwards and developed a slight book crush on zoya.

kevin: heartstopper by alice oseman. has a guilty pleasure. hides all of the graphic novels but reads them obsessively. relates to charlie a little bit too much. thinks the tv show is cringe but won’t stop watching. (andrew finds the comics once on a day off and reads all of them in a single sitting. he never mentions this to kevin.)

allison: the cruel prince by holly black. read it bcs renee recommended it to her and immediately fell in love with jude. audibly gasps in the girls’ dorm while reading and cries at the end of the wicked king. will definitely read all the spinoffs and discuss each of them in detail with renee.

jeremy: the secret history. read it and related to richard so hard until he realized just how messed up it all was. thinks about this book on a daily basis. really wants someone to talk to it about so he makes jean read it.
