My two cents before the hard launch on the whole hoodie strings livestream situation, that nobody asked for, was that dan had clearly misspoken or used incorrect wording and Phil didn't help. Because the way Phil explains it, he saw Dan 'standing there' and 'got a temptation' to undo the tied bow. Dan however replies that he didn't know what Phil had done, which to everyone (Me included) is the part that makes no sense. Because if someone pulled on your hoodie string the way both Dan and Phil suggested in the live stream (a quick tug), you would feel it.
Dan says though that he didn't feel a tug or vaguely suggests that he didn't feel anything (because Dan and Phil didn't touch till 2026 obviously jsjs)
The only way Dan wouldn't have felt Phil pull on the strings is if he was distracted.
That's where the kissing comes in according to the theory/conspiracy.
But then Dan says he 'walked into the room', which is also confusing because weren't you already there? and the hoodie string were undone. He doesn't say 'i looked down'. But then he says that Phil tried to fix the hoodie bow, but it was too late and that Phil wouldn't be able to do it anyway because he can't even tie his own shoelaces.
Anyway, the point is the story as it's been explained doesn't make any sense. As in, the part in which dan didn't immediately realize that the bow had been undone.
What I thought had happened before the Hard Launch and before the coming out as gay, was that they had simply worded a story poorly and people ran with that and turned it into a new little conspiracy a "oh what if they kissed moment", similar to the nose rubbing pinof 1 kiss. However, them both not even being out as queer and gay yet, Dan figured it would be better to not ever speak about it again. Like no tweet clarification, no tumblr post not addressing it, hoping it blows over. Because by not bringing any attention or interacting with that conspiracy he figured people would eventually let it go or forget about it and that over explain it it would make it look even more suspicious, and trying to clarify would only make people ask more questions.
Post Hard Launch... and post Mukbang 3 in where Phil confessed he has a video of them kissing in pinof 1 that he could have uploaded instead. (Which is a conspiracy I heard when I don't even watch Dan and Phil yet, when I had just arrived on the internet back in 2016).
yeah, they totally kissed and probably forgot about this whole thing, until they were searching for conspiracies for the TERRIBLE INFLUENCE TOUR. But they weren't out as couple yet so they discarded it as a potential theory since they couldn't reveal the truth because that would involve confessing to a live audience that they kissed, without necessarily addressing the fact that they are in fact a couple.
Anyways, the fact that Phil brought up that they kissed is actuall huge. Like I am so proud of them, and I'm so happy they feel comfortable enough to share that with us (their phanbase/audience). And the entire internet. They are actually loud and proud and out. *cries*
