Ok! This is not all of them but these are things I can think of off the top of my head! Now you may disagree but if youâre able keep it to yourself . This isnât phrased perf but this is on my phone and idc if I can read your shit posts yâall can figure this out
Biggest one! Ok now I donât want to hear itâs not that deep Willâs actual catchphrase is doctors orders and he actually and actively ignores Nicoâs agency in his own medical choices people are allowed to make bad ones if a doctor forced me or ordered me or even said that jokingly that is an actual red flag in medical care esp among disabled people if you donât fully grasp this issue I suggest you look up agency abuse in nursing homes or hospitals w disabled patients (this is also a huge issue w women and poc in gen)
The narrative choice a issue that is consistent throughout hoo is the blaming of Nicoâs alienation on Nico himself. Now we can argue schematics on how much was ooc or bad writing but there is no denying multiple people are at fault Nico is defensive and is uncomfortable around camp because of bullying he faced there, for Will to play it down and only he just needs to give them a second chance (he did already) is patronizing at best
this is prevalent with multiple characters including the narrative however it plays Willâs forceful nature as kind and that Nico should be thankful for him pushing him to this
Will is played as a savior character in fanon and in canon this is ableist I will not explain why yâall have brains
There are other more nuanced examples that are personally uncomfortable to me a disabled person to be used against Nico from a medical care character these writings are harmful and we should not normalize it
Now onto more fanon issues starters there is a distinct fetishizing from the audience which cannot be overstated and I would not hold everyone accountable if certain elements were not present in the fandom as a whole
Will is older yes. Will is only a year older that does not mean heâs the most experienced (we all know what Iâm implying) theyâre kids and you all imply this to multiple facets of their personalities
There is literally no evidence Nico cannot take care of himself in fact the opposite as as much as Will and fans would argue he was in fact doing it the whole series Hades was not raising Nico til post pjo guys he literally told him to die
The infantazion of Nico in multiple regards is ableist and simply inaccurate Nico fought in wars, holds multiple positions of higher power, the evidence would say the contrary that Nico is in fact more competent than Will (yeah yeah heâs a healer thatâs it guys)
We cannot compare life experiences because aside from that being ableist as not everyone is capable theyâre not going to be the same that does not imply anyone over the other
This applies to power dynamics to give Will again in canon Nicoâs healer power over him is ableist and also just wrong patients donât date their therapists trust me when I say that applies to all doctors (yes you can date a doctor you tend not to be their patient)
There are ways for their dynamic to be healthy however the foundation of it is not nor is any fanwork it is inherently built in the concept of fixing and or saving Nico
Thereâs a fundamental lack of understanding in mental health present too I promise you having people w you helps but a bf wonât cure depression
Again there is a near victim blaming characterization present in multiple fanworks Nicoâs just like that or worse when itâs important to know the context of Nicoâs behavior is because of negative and hurtful outside influences taking that away then still having the trauma then putting it on Nico being sensitive or emo ect is not writing him in good faith. I donât like how chb was written or hades but you cannot put Nicoâs trust issues and other trauma on himself when they were the fault of other characters to say the least itâs bad writing to say the most itâs another pattern of blaming the victim. Using Will as a mouthpiece for this is certainly not a huge sell btw
I have no issue w gnc Nico and frankly encourage it but when you make him uwu/soft and or flamboyant when thatâs simply not accurate and again homophobic and ableist (disabled men are men do not remove their masculinity, gay men arenât inherently flamboyant ect donât infantize either)
A lot of writings for both of them is simply inaccurate If you want a soft uwu baby who doesnât know about the world and a soft alpha but still an alpha dude to show it to them pls just make ocs
This again was just off the top of my head thereâs more but I donât feel like explaining every nuance to able people main point is if youâre not gonna write the traumatized characters stuff in good faith donât write it all all because writing in bad faith simply hurts people
