This isn’t saying you shouldn’t write bad or sad stories or anything, but from Gaster’s perspective as a character in those stories of course he’d want “happy” endings, haha.

But anyway, I kept telling you guys that when Handplates was over I would tell you. Well… here we are. After seven long years, here we are.

When I started I never thought I’d make it. To be honest, it doesn’t feel real to me at all. My brain still expects to do another page in about two weeks as it always does. I assume it’ll take a while to sink in. There’s a lot to say but this post is already incredibly long (sorry), so it’s probably suited to its own post.

But for all of you out there who read this story, whether you were there from the beginning or just came in now, thank you so much. And for all of you that were inspired by this comic, who created things for it, who blessed me with so many amazing gifts of art and fic and music and dubs and videos and so much more… I don’t know how to thank you enough. I never dreamed that an idle idea could have come this far or had such an impact on my life and so many people, but it did.

I kind of feel at a loss for words… again it’s very surreal. But I will say that Gaster wondering whether the kid is an actual human or not has an unintended level to it since my avatar is a fox but it’s TOO LATE NOW I GUESS lol.

Hi ok so I saw your idea about Opportunist and Smitten switching chapters and it reminded me of how weirdly like. Adjacent they are to each other as characters. Let me explain my logic here:

You achieve the Damsel and the Witch through very similar actions with only one major yet polarizing difference, they show up In each other’s chapter III’s to fix the other guy’s mess, the world Smitten builds in Happily Ever After seems to align with Opportunist’s dreams and ambitions, and they get along with each other surprisingly well. Yet they don’t align at all in terms of core characteristics. Betrayal and Blind Devotion. Complete mistrust in the princess vs. complete dedication to her.

Also ik this one is probably a coincidence but I like how they smile the same

I have my own interpretation on how some of the Voices motivations progressed into them from chapter I and I did see some similarities!

For my own interpretation of them, and anyone else can disagree as this is just my take, but I saw them as stemming from the same initial train of thought, doing what is good to them morally, the Princess doesn’t seem like any sort of threat so of course they’re gonna try and free her! But while Smitten doubled down on saving her after she began biting her hand off, Opportunist was likely almost afraid of her, seeing her as this animalistic creature who he needed to take down quickly. (This invites a funnier crack interpretation where Smitten sees feral animalistic Princess and goes “would”, god what would I give for some Smitten pining over the more wild and feral Princesses)

And of course, the Princess attacked him back when he did so, with her hands and teeth nonetheless! So obviously this was bound to happen, right? So doing what was good morally to him transforms into just doing what is good for him, which leads to the slimy traitorous voice we all know and love (some less than others). But Smitten just bites back on the fear, insisting on believing in her good nature and freeing her despite seeing first hand what she would do to herself. There’s a lot more thought between these transformations that I have, specifically to do with Witch and Damsel’s own turning points into their Chapter II forms, maybe I’ll do a dive on that some day
