Re: Disease Face
So, for the first time in my life, instead of going to the doctor's office, I simply downloaded an app (Live Health Online) and video conferenced with a random doctor. Not going to lie, once I figured it out it was the best thing in the world.
The downside, she couldn't see if it was Strep or Mono, considering that I couldn't get out of bed. The lighting was terrible and I had no way of taking my temp. In the end and given it was a Sunday, she sent me to a minute clinic. For those of you, like me, whom have no idea what Minute Clinics are, they are where mega-grocery store chains, like King Supers, store Doctors and Nurses in an extra janitors closets. Not entirely sure how long they've been there, but I can assure you, they are, "one with the walls."
Anyhow, they couldn't determine what this sickness was so they poked at my ears and throat for a while and sent off samples to grow under a microscope. Maybe it's the doctor version of Chia pets, I don't know...
A few days later, I get a call from my online nurse, who I was sure was like a one night stand, never to be heard from again. She wanted to send me an e-mail with her contact info. She also made the mistake of making herself my primary doctor. I feel adopted guys! Anyhow, she told me to contact her with any questions. Well, here's my first e-mail to her:
"Hi Lisa,
I haven't had a response from the lab yet. They were supposed to be testing the results of the very jabby "throat swab" they took, at the Minute Clinic, on Sunday. At this point, I am pretty certain it is strep. Working today was a challenge. Ah hah! My voice did not handle talking for 8 solid hours very kindly. The customers must have thought Spectrum Communications hired Smeagle. I mean, to be fair, ex-Hollywood stars need jobs too!
I've attached some photos of my throat. There are large white pustules forming on the sides, and larger red bumps on the back wall behing my tongue. Since taking the potographs, some of the pustules have grown. Regretfully, my family now changed my name to, "Disease Face."
At this point I am still not taking any antibiotics. Just tea, honey, and one IBU800 once in the morning. Not to mention, I've bathed/permeated everything in Vick's. Eh, so...much...Vicks.
I've never had something like this before so it has been quite the experience. Haha! This is coming from someone who doesn't get sick very often but holds the deep-seeded mindset that I'll be the first to "go," when the zombie apocalypse hits.
What do you think?
Please help me gain back my rightful birth name.

Hey @neil-gaiman, I love that you read your own work for your audio books. It's like listening to a poet read their own poetry. There's just something about it that other voice actors will never be able to catch. Thanks for all of the hard work!

Practical Effects
Halloween Wall Decoration with Burlap and Spray Paint
This Fall Semester at COD, I was given the challenge of creating a 30 Second Spot in my film class.
Of course, my mind goes directly to Halloween and how I could do something fun.
When I was filming I needed something to put on my wall as a background, so I went to a few stores and got this idea:
I picked up Burlap from Michael’s and some spray paint at Walmart (I know, I should have went elsewhere).
I used an old sheet and a nice place on the grass and kept “creepy” in mind. If you like this effect of the overall project, I got in the habit of using lights to darks to create that moss-like appearance.
Apply the paint in layers and beware of it looking like military camouflage.
While it was still wet, I rolled the burlap like a scroll. For space purposes and it also helped getting paint in the back of the burlap.
I didn’t worry about spray painting the back because it may have made the overall appearance too dark. This is for a film project, so my lighting would be low already. If you’re doing this for a decoration, do it as dark as you think will look good in/on your house.
I also picked up a more fine woven burlap material and did the same thing:
On a folded material like that, be wary of the wrinkles. So make sure the paint goes over it even so you’re not left with bright tan lines when you’re finished.
After I hung it up, it really looks nice when you use something to detour the appearance of the paint and to give it depth, so I picked up some Creepy Cloth from the 99 Cent Store. If you’re not sure what it looks like, I found this picture of the package online:
Depending on the year and store, it could be black, dark grey, or tan. This year it was black, so it looked nice on the greens and greys without me having to spray paint that too,
The overall appearance of the effect looks different throughout the entire day but here is what it looks like with a lot of light:
I think I have 8 yards of this hanging on my dining room walls right now and people really seem to be impressed when they come to visit, so I thought I would share how I did it with you.
Reposting because Halloween.
Once a month my sister’s and I set aside a day to get together to craft. We alternate between each of us per month. Taking advantage that my turn fell in October, I searched Pinterest (surprise) for some food ideas.
Disclaimer: I suck at cooking and double suck at making things taste good.
Crafting is one thing but cooking is a whole different story.
I came across this recipe here: https://pinterest.com/pin/493636809148496288/?source_app=android
This looks disgusting but I assure you it tasted amazingly.
The only alterations made were the addition of red and blue food coloring to the cream cheese “flesh,” and I used extra fat trimmings from the prosciutto to make tendons and the bone at the end.
Although it was huge, all of it was gone by the end of the night. I really recommend making this for any Halloween get togethers (for those of you who are morbid enough to stomach it).
