My analysis on the fight scenes in LMK and why I find them so appealing.
The first point I’m gonna say is the animation, the fluidity of the animation throughout the whole show makes the fight scenes so clean.
Second point would be the amount of dynamic shots used/shot types along with the setting used for the fight scenes. Like with some fight scenes you get bunch of POV’s in one scene e.g Pokémon xyz Ash and Greninja vs Charazard and Alain, Yugioh during the card duels, Sailor moon fights usually consisting of one city scene/a blank void/or space. Even some fight scenes I've seen in lego ninjago. They're really good at angling and shot types but they usually stay in one area enclosed area because they not Lazar blasting beams of concentrated light around.
However, with lmk, not only are they focusing on diverse angling and shot types, but the scenes used change and move with the fight. Kinda like with DBZ and my second favourite anime fight, which is the final face off in glitter force/precure Domi Doki.
E.g, the first fight between MK and Red Son through the city going from extreme close ups to low angle full body shots, or the far wide shots with MK and Azure going to high action moving shots. In every scene, there is so much movement, so much life, there are barely any still moments, and it all flows fantastically.
Then moving though the diverse movement and action types, there is a good mix between action packed hand to hand combat and inane magical Monkie power moves. I also noticed that they did a really good job at incorporating Red Son’s fire powers with the hand to hand combat in season 1 and the first time we see Wukong and Macaque fight they battle it out hardcore style. Not to mention there is a large array of attacks and weapons that the whole cast uses, Pigsy uses a rake for Gaia’s sake! A RAKE! And it works so well.
Then there is the characters themselves, the dialogue and serious monologuing paired banter and casual language makes the characters so relatable and likeable, it literally feels like they were people pulled from real life that got chucked into a show they like and have to fight beasts all the time. Then when the show does get serious it’s never so serious that it gets cringe it’s always combated by some lighthearted relief that stops anything from going from super serious to cringe, e.g S04 EP07 MK fighting the ink scroll version of himself has the whole serious scene and then mentions how the whole event will ‘haunt his nightmares forever.’ I love that.
Finally the emotions before, during and after the fight, there is always emotions through out the fight but the animation being so emotive makes every scene so much more emotional and impactful. The characters always have a different or cool expression whether it be goofy or sad they’re always making a really animated facial expression. Emotions and thoughts are even conveyed to us viewers though the shot type and angling. Positioning MK in the Azure Lion fight where they appear tiny but then swapping it around when it's clear that MK is beating his ass hyping up the audience and telling them visually that MK is the fucking goat.
God this is a lot but I was long over due a rant post and LMK happened to be the subject of thay
