poor, poor james. is it not enough to be haunted by his demons? the entity's own personal champion has come to claim him as well. frank stone reaches out and snags a fistful of james' jacket, hauling him away from the generator with a single rough motion, down to the musty floor. the beast's unblinking gaze stares on, relentless, a ragged breath leaving him before a snarl gurgles out.
James has only whispers of this killer.
He hasn't been in the fog for that long, a year or so at most, but the name Frank Stone is one said like one talks about the monsters in their closet. Sunderland has met the Boogeyman; he's a man in a pale white mask and worn out coveralls. The man- no, the creature that looms over him as his engine grease covered hands paw at the floor beneath him was far worse. This was the proto killer.
The Champion.
James can feel his heart beating against his throat like a canary trapped in a coal mine. He goes to scream. He goes to yell. He goes to say something but only finds that nothing more than a mere wheeze leaks out of him. Try as he might be can't call out for the help of his fellow survivors, and instead begins to regret ever working on this generator in the remote section of the trial. He thought he was being safe.
Sunderland scrambles. His motions become frantic as he desperately tries to peel himself off the floor and get as far away from Stone as possible. He slips once, almost colliding his jaw with the grime slicked tiles beneath him before his boots scuff and carry himself into a run.

Hello everyone.
Due to my recent bad health and anxiety I will be limiting those who I interact with. I have had a really rough year in regards to writing partners and will be sticking to those that I trust. I apologize to new followers and to those I had started threads with. This may change in the future, but as of right now I need to look out for my well-being and find a way to enjoy the hobby again.
I will be doing a mass unfollow. This is nothing personal, I just need to clear my dashboard so that I can focus on the people that I will be writing with. If you are someone I've known for a long time and I unfollow you, please feel free to reach out to me and we can discuss things.

James sits in mild bewilderment as Steve Harrington regales the tales of what happened to him in Hawkins. If he hadn't lived horrors of his very own, he would have doubted that it was actually real. Well, that and it helped that one of the horrors he had gone up against just so happened to be lumbering around the fog with them.
"So you're... telling me you went up against that thing with just a bat?" To be fair, he had gone against some weird shit with nothing more than a plank of wood.
Hand had reached out to take his, yet before she could he's retracted his own, leaving her hanging and even stepping back. The way he looks is similar to a startled deer caught in crosshairs.
"Car broke down right outside of town." Just her luck of course on all counts. "I was looking around, trying to find any sort of help. And I got bored just sitting on the side of the road." Juliet gives a sheepish shrug. Patience was a fickle virtue. And in such a case, she had to guess that maybe an hour passed before she was bored to tears.
There's a quiet hum as brows furrow. "It's like weird though. You're the only other person I've seen. This place is like fucking abandoned." Not a soul in sight save for him and --- "Oh but I remember, I saw a kid too...I think? I-D-K. The fog was thick and the distance was waaaaay far off."
"Laura?"
James perks up at that, taking a step forward as his train of thought shifts. Was she running around again? She could get hurt. Mary would never forgive him if he let her get hurt.
"Did she have blonde hair? Wearing overalls?" To be fair, she was a hardy and spunky little kid, but this town was no place for a little girl like her. Hell, it was no place for a big girl like the one in front of him.
Maria couldn't deny the mild surprise at his reaction. He was always so distant with her, so withdrawn, his thoughts wholly focused on... on Mary. On his wife, the one he killed. The one he remembered killing, now. Yes, she... she remembered that. She remembered the way he used to be so... inexplicably calm, as if showing anything else was unknown to him. She remembered even when they were separated in his lack of care. But that wasn't right.
No, that wasn't right. He cared. He cared. Did he care? She remembers his fear, his anger at that final death. She remembers him killing her.
There's a moment in which she feels light headed, shaking her head, slow, as if to clear the metaphorical fog. She holds up her hands. To steady herself? To hold him? To push him away? They drop back down to her side.
" I remember Lakeview. "
There's no anger in her voice, though there is tension. Something behind her tone.
" I remember... pain. I remember being alone. I remember closing my eyes and waiting to die. "
To disappear. That's what should have happened to her, right? When James made his choice, when he left Silent Hill, she should have stopped existing, right? She had needed him to live, owed her very existence to him and Mary. She shouldn't be alive.
" The next thing I remember, I'm here. I'm Maria. "
Not Mary. Not some monster. Just Maria.
James' jaw tenses at her answer. She remembers dying. To be fair, so does he. He remembers the pressure. He remembers the cracking of the windows. The water. How it tasted.
"I'm... sorry." For what? For what he did to her? For what he did to himself? To the both of them? "I'm... glad you're not there anymore but here is... Well, I don't know if I could say it's worse but it's certainly not better." He rubs the back of his neck, looking to the ground before making eye contact again.
"I'm uh... well, I wouldn't wish this place on anyone, but it's nice to... have a familiar face." You know, besides the featureless one of Pyramid Head.

SILENT HILL LYRIC STARTERS PART TWO
James has experience with his own strange creatures and judges, but meeting an Angel separate from himself here in the depths of Silent Hill shakes him in a way he doesn't entirely understand. There is something intrinsically understood about this being that makes James realize that this is not something he should truly be seeing. This is someone else's caretaker. This was someone else's keeper. As Pyramid Head was very much of his own design, this holy being was not. The word holy is being used in a very loose sense here, as James is not entirely sure that Valtiel fit the standard definition.
Looking on in great horror, he realizes what it's trying to tell him. This is not the first time that water has surrounded him. This is not the last time either, and it seems that this being has all but condemned him to return to the lake. That the answer to the eternal question is that the depths will take him again, and again, and again. It is inescapable.
"Wh-why?" Sunderland asks in vain, "Why must it be this way? Why are you telling me this?!" It seems that he never truly gets answers in Silent Hill and is only ever met with more questions or riddles. The worst is when he's greeted with silence.

Here are my two flavors
painted eyebrows furrow a bit as large emerald eyes stare at him for a brief moment , as if trying to decipher whether or not to entertain his amusing ( albeit foolish ) query. grey clouds of smoke slowly emit themselves from between dark red lips before they slowly dissipate .
❝ well , it's simple , really . . . ❞ she murmurs , her tiny fingers trapping the cigarette a bit tightly between them .
❝ i just breathe in . . . ❞ the cigarette is brought up to her lips once more as she inhales with a hint of playful exaggeration . it is then extracted slowly , followed by her lightly exhaling thick billows of smoke through pursed lips .
❝ . . . and breathe out . ❞ the corner of her lips curl into a smug smirk as her gaze trails over him in dark amusement .
James scrunches up his face.
"I know how to smoke a cigarette," He announces, placing his hands on his hips, "Tried it once. Didn't really do much for me. But what I want to know is how are you smoking? Do... do you breathe? Like actually breathe?" He almost looks concerned at this revelation.
"Like, do you have... organs?" Was it like a game of Operation? Or was she like a Baby Alive doll? Oh god. No. Fuck. Abort. Don't think about the implications of that.
When Maria had opened her eyes again, she was not where she remembered. She was not standing on the Lakeview Hotel, the scent and sound of rain, an endless, choking fog that seemed to permeate into her very bones. She remembers fear. She remembers hate. She remembers love. She remembers desperation. She remembers pain. She remembers dying. She remembers James.
She does not remember this place.
The fog is the same, but these woods were not the woods that surrounded surrounded Silent Hill. These woods were dark, silent. They seemed endless. She was alone, at first, holding her hands to her chest and searching, searching. It always seemed as if she was searching. Maybe that's all she could do. It was a shock to see she was not alone. A shock to see someone else speak to her. A shock to be told to run, to hide, a look of fear and agitation. That was before the screams first began, pained and dying. That was before she ran into James again. She should have been angry, she should have been shocked, but in this moment of uncertainty all he was to her was a beacon of hope. She remembered him and still, as if she could never escape her creation, some part of her believed, or knew, she needed to stay with him. Perhaps, for once, that was to her benefit in this strange world. She hadn't a clue as to what she was doing, merely tailing along after him as she had become accustomed to. Something rang out, it felt like the end, doors were open, the sound of a chainsaw rapidly approaching, her heartbeat in her ears-
He takes her hand and they hold onto each other as if they were scared they might be torn apart. Perhaps they were. She, at least, felt this was familiar. Running from a monster out a set of doors. For a moment she wondered if something would stop her.
She runs with him into the fog. Her lungs burn. Her vision goes white. She's still holding his hand when it all clears. A fire crackles a few yards away, the sky above nothing more than a long night. She looks around, her senses still trained for any sense of danger until her heart seems to settle. She realizes she's still holding James' hand.
She pulls it away.
" James. "
She has a handle on her voice. It's not broken by fear or anguish, though still it harbors tension.
" Where are we? "

It had been hard to keep it all in. It had been so difficult to maintain some semblance of calm and focus while holding onto Maria's hand for dear life. He wasn't going to see her die. Not again. He wasn't going to leave her behind. Not again. He had to keep her safe. He had to protect her. He had to get Maria out of there so that the two of them could figure something out. He wasn't quite sure yet what that was or what any of this could possibly mean. As soon as he feels her slip away from him, the shock and fear become more evident on his face.
"Maria?" He asks in return, his words still slightly breathless from their fevered race out the gates and towards safety, "I... God, I didn't think I'd ever see you again." To be fair he doesn't mean to dodge the question, he just has quite the one tracked mind. He turns a little bit more towards her, holding his hands out as he speaks to express himself a little more.
"You- ... How did you get here? Do you remember anything?"
Her head tilts slightly, nodding at his lack of foresight. It's understandable. Desperate times calls for desperate measures.
There's a crunch as she finishes off the strawberry sucker, stick discarded as if it were a mere cigarette butt. Her foot even comes to rest ontop of it, heel making a grinding motion. Delicately she smooths out the fabric of her shorts and brushes away any bits of candy debris from her tank top.
But when he introduces himself her features visibly brighten up. "Oh!! Wow what a coincidence!" Juliet gasps. "We have the same initial! Maybe that's a sigh of goodluck!" A giggle slips past glossed lips before an excited grin spreads across them. "I'm Juliet Starling. Nice to meet you." A little wave is given, followed by another soft laugh.
"Say, James," she starts taking a couple of steps towards him. "You wouldn't happen to be a mechanic would you?" There's no disguising the hopeful eagerness in her tone nor hiding the restless, anticipation in her fidgeting fingers.
There is a lot that suddenly gets thrown at James.
For one, seeing her dispose of her lollipop like that stirs up a few things in his mind. He's not quite sure how to feel about it but a good descriptor would be excited. His face screws up for a moment in sexual confusion before genuine confusion and surprise takes its place. James goes to say something, even trying to extend his hand to be polite, only to have Juliet get a little closer. Instinctively he takes a step back, holding his hands up almost defensively.
"Wh-huh?" He asks in mild bewilderment, "You- uh... A-A mechanic? Well, no, not really. I... kind of know my way around a car a little but only the routine maintenance stuff. Are you uh... are you stalled, or something?" Yeah, let's focus on cars and not the hot woman who could step on him like a lollipop stick.
This place, suffocating as it was, had a way of forcing John to confront parts of himself he thought log buried or, perhaps, facets of himself he had never once considered. Guilt, pain, Punishment. Suffering. Tension. As if the world had crafted itself around torturing any that entered into its gates. The hand on his shoulder pulls him further back into reality however, even the tight grasp of James. Perhaps it is both what they needed, something to ground John back into reality and for James to do much the same. To remember the man before him was not some figment of his imagination, but another living, breathing soul trapped inside the fog.
His breathing begins to settle and his grip in the pipe loosens.
" I think there might be a place down one of those other roads. "
Residential areas, perhaps a small store. Maybe a church? Churches were always open. Somewhere they could rest for a moment without fear something might suddenly spring up from behind a closed door.
There are a few places that come to mind, one of them being Neely's Bar but that was quite a ways from here down Neely Street. The road was right there, but just in front of them James could see St. Stella, the only church on this side of Toluca Lake. Perhaps the Father would find comfort there? It was worth a shot at least.
"Well uh, there's a church right there." He offers, pointing to the aforementioned building with the tip of his gun, "But there's also a bar a little further down from here. It's pretty abandoned, just like the rest of this place." Which made it even weirder that John just happened to come to Silent Hill. What sort of connection did he have to this place?
Was he looking for someone too?
