James E. Akenson Workshop at The Georgia Old-Time Fiddlers Convention 4/6/2013
James E. Akenson will be leading an educational workshop at the Georgia Old-Time Fiddlers Conventions Centennial Celebration in April 2013. He is a Professor of Curriculum and Instruction at Tennessee Technological University. He uses roots oriented music in his teaching methods courses for elementary and for secondary social studies. Akenson also teaches a graduate course for teachers on how to integrate country music into the K-12 curriculum. He has been active in the Tennessee Council for the Social Studies and is Co-Chair of the International Country Music Conference.
One of our guest speakers at this event will be Wayne W. Daniel. He is a retired Georgia State University professor and the author of âPickinâ on Peachtree, A History of Country Music in Atlanta, Georgia,â published by the University of Illinois Press. He has had more than 200 articles about country, bluegrass, and southern gospel music appear in scholarly journals and popular magazines. Additionally, he has spoken frequently on these subjects to such groups as the Tennessee Folklore Society, International Folk Alliance, and International Country Music Conference.
