WE COULDNâT GET AWAY â Marliam.

When Liam repeated her own words back to her, Marley couldnât hold back her little smirk if  she tried. She hadnât thought he picked up on that but apparently he did. Secretly she was glad he could so easily brush it off instead of taking it to heart. Was he actually being someone friendly with her? Most guys in his position (and social status) wouldnât date to make conversation - but less eye contact - and rightfully so. If this had been a crowded hallway, he would have been greeted with an indifferent look, if even that.Â
âSure, yeah, whatever you want.â Marley replied nonchalantly, as if she wasnât secretly hoping he didnât care if she hid out here for a while. Using her hands for support, she scooted up onto the bathroom vanity, giving her feet some relief and letting her legs hang over the end. She could hear her phone vibrating in her bag but didnât bother to even check it. She knew her mom was working and anyone else texting her were probably just wondering where the heck she was. When he referred to himself as a nobody, she just shook her head to herself. Itâs not like they were so different. He seemed like the loner type, she was surrounded by âfriendsâ, sure. But at the end of the day, when things got tough - there they both were, hiding out in the bathroom. âIf I wanted to go, Iâd be gone by now.â she stated simply, her tone was never over aggressive - unlike a lot of the people she surrounded herself with. More just disinterested. Disconnected.Â
âHey, since I helped you out with your shirt, can I ask a favor?â she spoke up, making sure he could hear her while he was in the stall. Of course, she hadnât given him the advice expecting something in return when she offered it, but now that she had helped him out she hoped maybe he could return the favor. Nothing comes for free, right? And she wasnât a fool, she knew exactly what he saw. Why he had barred the door. âCould youâŠâ It was now that she glad he had opted to sneak away into the stall. âCould you maybe not mention that I was in here.â Nope, that wasnât the right phrasing. âI mean, could you not mention why I was in here. Er, what I was doing?â she asked, sucking up her pride momentarily. âMy friends are nosy as hell and I just donât wanna deal with 50 questions.â
Hearing Marley say that she would have left already if she wanted to was a little odd for Liam. People didn't just hang around him anymore, he had taken the needed measures to ensure that for himself. Still, misery loved company so knowing she'd still be there as he was having to wash his shirt was a little nice in a strange way. Then again, the whole encounter was odd already so that wasn't saying too much. In the midst of taking his shirt off, he heard the girl ask for a favor. Liam didn't say anything, assuming she'd ask regardless of him showing he heard her.
A quiet laugh passed Liam's lips at Marley's request from him. His shirt was now off and he was working on getting his jacket on, as well as zipped at least halfway. He opened the stall, having not said a word in the few seconds it took for him to emerge, "You," he started, walking up to the open sink and turning the water on once again, "are vastly overestimating the crowd I talk to, and what I talk about." He turned his head to cast a glance over at Marley with a smile he actually was letting her see, "My grandparents are a little too old to know who you are and start a rumor about it."
At the mention of his family, his smile waned and he looked back down to work on his shirt. Liam didn't go around talking about his life at school, that was sort of the point of being an outcast from the school. However, he forgot that his natural instinct was to talk to people that were being friendly to him. Unfortunately, that still was part of his personality despite everything, "But if that's what you want to consider a favor, sure. I can do that."Â
