what's fun about newton and hermann is that they're both extremely cheesy but in totally different ways so they're still never in sync like newton would tell everyone he and hermann are going to save humanity with the power of love and hermann would blush and scoff and roll his eyes but then late at night he'd whisper things like i ache for you dr geiszler and newton would be like ahhhaha what. oh my god. awesome

Not to be suddenly Pacific Rim on main but Newt and Hermann are THE dynamic, ok?? They’re literally so fucking powerful. Those two have goddamn EVERYTHING. ten years of mutual pining, unarticulated crushing, pen pals to rivals to lovers, the personal favourite “Have Probably Been Secretly Married For The Last Decade” trope, “they don’t like each other but they love each other” (via. Mr Charles Peckham Day), the classic nerd and punk dynamics but it’s Better because they’re BOTH nerds, left brain right brain? unfolding romance in the face of the end of the world and it takes the end of the world for them to finally confess to each other???? I’LL GO WITH YOU??? GAY SCIENTISTS? And all of this would’ve been enough, but then they had to go and add drift compatibility, which is quite literally just a scientific representation of soulmates? And you know whose drift compatibility literally saved the fucking world? These two idiots, babey!!!!!! Guillermo Del Toro did NOT have to go this fucking hard writing two side characters who were supposed to serve comic relief. But he literally just went and wrote one of the most compelling and satisfying romance arcs in cinematic history. Legendary

This might be one of my favourite scenes of anything ever cause it’s so blindly obvious how connected they are after the drift!!!! The way they carry this speech - it doesn’t sound at all like two separate people with separate thoughts, this is ONE thought, ONE message and it is bouncing between them speaking so effortlessly. It’s so different to how they talk together earlier on in the film - they don’t cut each other off or argue or talk over each other, the sentences flow between the both of them like they’re one person. It’s honestly amazing to hear two people sound so incredibly connected
