i just rewatched heroes rising and cried all over again...it's the best pick-me-up, from the visuals to the themes to the characters, everything...

not that i needed a reminder but it's just a distillation of all the reasons why i love this series and these characters so much. coming out of it, it's like there's nothing that can top this movie dedicated to two of the central characters of the series and their entire contentious, evolving relationship.

i just had a totally crack idea here but what if, while toya was born with resistance to cold while having fire powers, fuyumi has a resistance to heat with only ice powers?

and that's why her mapo tofu is a level of spicy that kacchan likes lol

just got to the first villain hideout raid in the manga and i found someone! good to know that x-less upgrades his costume later just in time for shigaraki to snatch a cape that matches his aesthetic lol

horikoshi's art is amazing as always but it took me way too long to realize that he wrote "summer" a whopping SIX different times in this sketch alone.

1. ナツ(っゆ) = natsu(yu) — a pun on tsuyu's name, written half in katakana

2. 夏 typed out real tiny in between the characters of her name (to make the joke more obvious?)

3. なつ。 written by hand between tsuyu and nejire

4. SUMMER

5. 夏 written by hand in the bottom corner

6. and なつ again typed real tiny right under the kanji

i guess he's just really excited about summer!! lol

was thinking about how the heck gran torino and nana learned to fight since they were apparently pretty skilled in battle without being licensed, and then my thoughts spiralled into thinking about the first few holders of one for all and realizing that — since the first, second, and third canonically knew each other before the quirk started to be passed on — that means that they all must have died pretty much one after another if they're still so young-looking inside deku's one for all. that, or they passed it along in swift succession until the fourth user who spent the rest of his life in the woods as the quirk ate away at his lifespan.

god, my kingdom for a spinoff about each and every one of the previous one for all wielders (and yes, that includes all might!)

320 brought on all the feels for sure, but what i enjoyed the most was how Horikoshi bookended the chapter with fourth wall breaks lol. kacchan observes from the first page that deku's "drawn differently" and asui closes out the last page with deku being "dead set on being some comic book superhero". i'm definitely not the first person to have noticed it but i was just so charmed by that lol.

it's also like, a great way to bring the narrative out of deku's perspective alone, since his friends are now pointing things out that none of the adults or deku himself have commented on during his solo arc. he's acting like he's in a totally different genre of story, he's treating other people (intentionally or not) as NPCs or as victims, he scares civilians, he smells bad, he can't even let himself cry anymore because he's so scared and alone.

these are things that readers have noticed because we're seeing him from the outside, but i'm not sure that any of the well-meaning heroes have said any of this to him in as many words — and like all might realized too late, deku needs to hear and learn that it's okay to stop, to let himself be taken care of by others. after all the times that he's gone out of his way for their sakes, it's nice to see his friends finally able to reach back out to him.

i'm doing my first rewatch of MHA like...ever? i don't normally watch animes but like, a gap of 5 years while MHA has consistently been my main fandom is probably not typical, i feel like. i'm enjoying myself though, and surprised how little i'm losing it over all the KTDK moments — maybe because i've become desensitized to those scenes after so long. now that's a sad thought, isn't it?

i'm also rereading the manga (which i have done multiple times before) along with the anime, and i'm thinking of revisiting my old reread notes. i do have to say though, that not jotting down my thoughts every second panel this time around has given me a lot of space to just remind myself how much i love this series though, which shouldn't be a surprise, but after so much time spent just keeping up and passively absorbing fan-content it somehow is.
