"Stooop. You take butchering to a whole new level."
Is it getting too cold or is that just me?
"It's a little chilly, yes."
"It's beautiful. Where did you see it?"
Maya giggled in response. āWell, I was either in the library looking for new stuff to read or locked up in my room having a romcom movie marathon. Basically, I was procrastinating. I havenāt done anything productive the whole time, honestly. You know, the usual.ā
"Aww, I know and Iām sorry for being M.I.A." She said as she playfully wrapped her arms around the blonde. "I missed my best friend."
"You had a movie marathon without me? Well now I'm really feeling the love." Grace teased, feigning hurt as she spoke. "You and me both, in that case."
"I missed you too. I was starting to have withdrawal symptoms, so I knew it was about time I paid you a visit."
"Iād say you achieved that"
"You sure? I mean, Iām kind of burning up in my jacket so you could borrow it. Though it might clash with that dress? I donāt know, Iām not really good with fashion."
"I'm glad you agree."
"Well it is already a little cold out. Only if you're sure..I mean as much as I'm all for matching, I think I'd rather be warm and look the part, than freeze to death."
"Canāt believe I had to find out about Briellaās death through a goddamn emailā¦"
"There's a lot going on right now, I'm sure had they had the time they would have most definitely come to you in person."
"You havenāt seen a book lying around anywhere, have you?"
"Ah, no. What it was called?"
"Increasingly, yes, though only recently. Iām keen to blame it on sleep deprivation."
"Long days been keeping you awake?"
This is ā I⦠My fault, itās my fault. Iām sorry ā Iām so sorry.
"Al! There you are.." Grace muttered, taking a moment to gather her breath as she came to a hasty stop. "W-what? No. Why would this be your fault?"
Aftermath || Nettie & Grace
Nettie wasnāt quite sure how long she had sat there with Freddieās lifeless body in her lap, but eventually her legs became stiff and numb, and her back had started to ache. You should go, came the distant voice in her mind. Tell someone what happened.Ā But the blonde couldnāt quite bring herself to leave, not yet. She had told Freddie that he wasnāt alone, the woman couldnāt leave him yet. He couldnāt be left alone with the girl who had cut his life short.
And so Nettie stayed, staring blankly down at the mess that was Freddieās chest wound. It was so ugly and horrific, and such a terrible way to go. She absentmindedly rubbed her thumb over the hand still wrapped in hers. His grip had slackened, but she hadnāt let go.
The sound of footsteps was jarring and out of place in the almost peaceful silence that had enveloped them after Freddieās death. The steady thump thump thump of shoes on the floor was almost unwelcome, though in the reasonable part of her brain Leonette knew she required help and that this was a good thing. But instead of the more acceptable greetings of; 'Oh I'm so glad you're here.' and 'Quick! I need your help.'
All Nettie said was, āYou shouldnāt be here.ā
As soon as she had made it back to the hall Grace had searched out Charlie, Bruno and Maya.Ā It was a shock to see the flurry of people that ran about the injured, and worse. However the blonde could somewhat breathe a sigh of relief knowing her loved ones had indeed survived the ordeal. And while that was all that really matter, there was however still work to do. Leaning on the tips of her toes Grace caned her head as she glanced over the crowd, in search of the older blonde. But Ms. Wallis was nowhere to be seen. Turning back to Maya she flashed the brunette a reassuring smile, "I'll be back in a moment. Don;t go anywhere okay?" She nodded, before spinning on her heel and forcing her way through the crowd to the hall.
Hastily she moved passed each door, peering into each individual window as she searched for the instructor. Where was she. Having completed nearly every door that lined the dark hall, Grace smiled as she peered into the final one. A mess of blonde waves sat in one corner of the room next to two dark figures. Opening the door, she quietly entered. The silence than emanated within the room was defining.Ā Only as she got closer, Grace inhaled sharply as she took in the sight before her. Never before had she seen someone so limp and lifeless, and it didn't take a doctor to see that from the ugly wound in his chest he was dead. Along with the brunette to the side of them "Ms Wallis.." She started, forcing back whatever fear she felt as she placed a small but reassuring hand upon the women's shoulder. "They need you in the main hall.." She murmured, swallowing back tears as she kept her gaze upon the women's head.
"Oh, didnāt you know? IādĀ rock a tutu. It shows off my ass and how nice it is. But it wouldnāt be fair to outshine everyone, so Iāll have to pass on the opportunity once again." He stumbled forward as she yanked him forward into the almost familiar. "I hope all of this confidence means that you know youāre right."
"Firstly eww! No one wants to see that ass Charles and secondly I'm fairly certain the only one in our family that was graced with dancing genes was yours truly." Grace said, confidently motioning to herself. "I'm positive." She nodded, grinning to herself as they made it back onto the main track. "Now which way was it.." She muttered to herself. "Oh and just in case.. You did bring a torch right?"
Charlie turned around, away from his sisterās gaze and started walking away. He called a little louder over his shoulder so she could still hear him as he put distance between the two of them. āHe could be, but am Iām going around with an intention to kill everyone that dates you? Noā well not for the most part. But still. I think if he had the chance, heād rip out my intestines and force feed them to me.ā He said with a shudder.
Letting her head fall back, Grace groaned as her brother took off ahead. Being short never was the greatest trait. "Well... That's because we both know you loooove Bruno. And well, you don't exactly have the same reputation as he does so yes it's a little different." She replied, forcing herself to jog to catch up with him. "No he wouldn't. Besides, everyone with half a brain knows not to mess with the Munroes."
"Iām of two minds about quiet, to be honest. Physically and socially I hate it but mentally and emotionally I love it. Youāre now pretending not to pretend and thatās shocking, Grace." Callum grinned more. "Heās great, well, as great as a guy can be who is swamped with work. Last week was the only time he could get off because of special circumstances and tradition, but heās back to work now and is busy busy again. The usual."
"Oh please, acting isn't my forte. Besides, would I ever lie to you?" Grace teased, flashing him her best innocent grin. "I'm sorry to hear that Cal, if it's any constellation I can totally relate. Dad's never really been around all that much either, with the shelter and the other Haven's and what not." She shrugged, slinging an arm over his shoulder in the hopes of cheering her friend up. "But on the bright side you do have fabulous friends."
"Does anybody else smell that?.. The change of air? Itās getting more humid too. Is something coming?"
"You're not wrong there. Let's hope it's just one of the Atmokinetics acting out and not an actual storm."
"Mills? What's wrong?"
"If this isnāt an emergency then I suggest you take it up with another staff member. I have things to work on."
"Sorry sir, but I don't think it can wait. Maybe you should take a look outside.."
