it really pisses me off when adults sit there and drill it into kids’ heads that their youth is fleeting and tell them things like “enjoy your childhood while it lasts because this is the best it’s gonna get”. why are you telling children that adulthood is the worst thing they can experience? seriously what the fuck is wrong with you, why are you trying to make them feel like growing up is a fate worse than death? trying to convince them their life is over before it even begins? i’m tired of that shit. because tell my why my 12 year old cousin told me when she turns 30 she’ll be so depressed she’s just gonna cry all the time. what the fuck. kids don’t need to hear that their already stressful and overwhelming lives are never going to get better, that the abuse and lack of autonomy they face is apparently the highlight of their lives. they need to hear about adults who are happy to be alive and happy to have made it to their age. they need to know that growing up rules, it’s a gift and life does not have to suck for them, that they have a future that’s worth sticking around for. this rhetoric is so damaging mentally and i’m about to start hitting the adults who parrot it. i’m sorry you hate your life but you don’t get to dump your issues on these kids. don’t piss me off and leave these babies alone!

me as a teenager: man it sucks to have no privacy or autonomy but i guess its for a good reason. when i turn 18 i will realise how young i was and understand why they did all that.

me as an adult: teenagers are an oppressed class, their abuse is normalised and systemic and they need to start killing people

writing isn't real life. You don't need to set up a character walking into a room or two characters greeting each other and talking about the weather or what-have-you in order to lead into the conversation you actually want them to have. just start at the conversation.

hell, start in the middle of the conversation. you could even start at the end and then have one of them leave and the other one left behind to reflect back on what just happened.

writing gets easier when you open yourself up to writing the parts that are interesting, to starting where it's easy instead of where you think you should start.

if it ends up not working? that's okay. you tried it, and sometimes just getting something out of your head is a necessary first step to getting the words right

I really think everyone who has any feelings whatever way about any of the Archeron sisters could really help to be reminded that they are 22-26 and every other character in the series is like 500.

“Feyre committed war crimes” - Feyre was a 20 year old going through a bad breakup who girl bossed way too close to the sun. Take your Spring Court falling apart issues up with the 500 year old High Lords who watched and allowed it. If the man I thought I was going to marry at 19 had a Court I probably would’ve crashed that shit too. FRONTAL LOBE NOT YET DEVELOPED!!

“Nesta is a bitch/abusive/mean” Nesta is a teenage girl with a sister and they have all been put into horrible circumstances (reminder: Cassian physically beat Rhys up and no one calls him “abusive”) and then she is a traumatized S.A. survivor who literally died and is being constantly put in situations she is very uncomfortable with and has frankly incredibly tame reactions (I mean, it’s not like she goes around telling people they are unlovable and that everyone hates them).

“Elain is useless/boring/doesn’t do anything.” Oh so we hate Feyre for fucking shit up and we hate Nesta for being “mean” and now we also hate Elain for *checks notes* “nothing.” Elain is a girl whose entire life was turned upside down twice and she is quite literally navigating her mind no longer being entirely her own as well as a weird new bond she doesn’t understand. What do you want her to do, exactly? She picked up a knife when the situation call for it OK. Not to mention that we seriously have enough centuries old warriors taking up their swords we don’t need Elain and her rolling pin bonking the enemy now the war is over ok GOD FORBID A GIRL HAVE HOBBIES AND ENJOY THEM

Anyway thank you for coming to my ted talk on the infuriating state of misogyny in a series with a largely female fan base. Be mad at the men. They’re all insane frankly - and sometimes hot, and it’s fantasy, so it’s fine but GOOD LORD PEOPLE.
