when do you think you're gonna come back to roleplaying?

((i..... don’t know. i’ve thought about it a few times, and i actually still follow everyone and i’ve been loosely keeping up with threads, but. right now my life is going through some changes and i’m not sure when it’s going to slow down, not to mention the love i’ve been pouring into my big taz project

the answer is someday soon, once my life has settled down and i can catch up on the series and watch the movie without needing to panic about my future

Pearl shifted to set her phone down on a table she summoned from the water, sitting with her legs off to the side and her chest just a bit pushed out to emphasize her perky breasts. Her smile was easy and relaxed, as if amused by her state of dress and Calcite's still obvious reaction to it.

"You won't be getting me out of this any time soon," Pearl chuckled. "I worked much too hard on crafting it to do that so soon. And of course..." She ran a hand down her leg, stretching just a bit to show off. "It'll be less messy."

Pearl picked up cooking because Rose and Amethyst asked her to! Rose was busy learning other human stuff and Amethyst was too chaotic to work properly in a kitchen, so she (and Garnet, to a lesser extent) started learning from humans how to cook new foods and… mostly remembers what she learned.

Pearl felt the hand on her ass and turned without thinking, swiping her hand to slap whoever had dared to grab her like that with an indignant squawk. It felt like her hand made contact, which was satisfying in a sick sort of way. Her mouth opened to shout a name, which one she wasn’t sure, but quickly closed when she met Calcite’s eye.

She snarled, sounding more like a dog than she normally allowed. “Get your hands off of me,” she snapped. “Just because we’re soulmates doesn’t give you permission to touch me.”

Pearl kept turning the flower over and over, brushing her fingers against the petals and thinking about anything except the Gem in front of her. Chores, the beach, this flower, the smell of fries, her soft regret at not being able to get a cup of tea to hold, Rose (ouch), driving, the beach again, new missions she and Garnet had discussed… anything that wasn’t Calcite that drifted into her mental peripheral vision was snatched and considered. She didn’t even acknowledge the silence; she hummed to fill it, drawing on ancient songs and Greg’s albums and things she’d heard on the radio while cleaning with Steven.

If she didn’t react, she won. That was the game Calcite usually played, right? Play it cool and paint the first person to be emotional as crazy.

Or maybe that was her. It was now.

But then Calcite burst out with anger, and Pearl felt her own internal calm snap. She’d won, technically, but that victory was lost when she stood and slammed the flower on the table. “Why do you think?” she cried. “What could possibly be different?”

When Calcite settled and sighed, Pearl felt every inch of her body tense. She sat back down in her seat, arms crossed and eyes glued to the table. She bit her lip and let her outburst hang in the air. Calcite could figure it out.

That was the way Calcite usually handled the awkward dealings with Pearl, fully expecting the other gem to snap long before she did. The problem with that tactic was that it made her own frustrations well up inside her until it was all too much for her to handle. This outburst she had would have happened eventually.

She glared at Pearl when she was expected to figure out what the problem was. Oh, Calcite did have a few ideas, but she had avoided bringing them up. Now she was too irritated to care for the consequence.

“It can’t be me, so the problem must be you and I think I figured it out. You’re defective. I bet noone even wanted you.” Calcite’s tone dripped with acid and she could have stopped there, but she just kept going. “That’s why you ran away to join the rebellion. It’s because you’re a reject who should have been recycled after forming.”

Pearl grit her teeth when Calcite started talking, trying and failing to stop the tears welling up in her eyes. She could see (well, sense) Amethyst and Steven almost run to stop Calcite from finishing her thought, but the conflict with their usual nature of helping Pearl calm down stopped them in their tracks, staring wide-eyed at the scene in front of them as it clambered to a new screeching height of painful.

Calcite wasn't wrong. But she wasn't right, either.

"You don't know what you're talking about," she snapped, eyes meeting Calcite's. The tears that started creeping down her face didn't match the calm of her voice.

She stood again, arms at her sides in tight fists. "You'll never understand. I helped start the rebellion, because she loved me!"

Her hands slapped over her mouth and she grimaced, pausing and collecting herself before slowly lowering them. She turned to Steven and Amethyst with a guilty smile. "Thank you for trying to help." Her smile fell. "But I don't think it's going to work out."

Cocoa twitched her nose after Pearl bopped it, a tiny confused look on her face.  But the kitten didn’t seem to react otherwise to the touch.  Black Star was more than comfortable laying against Pearl’s form, but then she wondered aloud.

“Oh?  I’m not sure either.  We could hike, shapeshift, maybe.. cook?”

“Oh, cooking!” Pearl’s eyes lit up with stars. “I’d love to cook with you again.”

Despite the proclamation, she made no real move to start toward the kitchen, instead humming and twirling some of Black Star’s fluffy hair around her finger. “But what to cook...” she wondered softly.

“What’s your favorite thing you have everything for here?” she asked. “Or perhaps something we could share with your lovely feline companions.”
