Think of a decision you’ve been holding off on.
Now think of your life two years from now if you don’t make that decision:
What are you doing? The same thing? Anything new?
Where are you?
What are you feeling?
How happy are you?
Who do you interact with on a daily basis? How much time on average do you spend around them? Do you like those people? How do you feel being around them? Are you happy you are spending most of your time around those people? Do they make you better?
How much closer are you to your goals?
How much of your life are you willing to commit to and invest in this? Give to what you are doing and where you are?
Think about if you’re in this same place five years from now. Is it where you want to be?
Maybe you’re like…yes! And maybe, like me, you’re thinking of something very specific that you’ve known for awhile needs to change.
Think of that decision you’ve been holding off on, and now imagine if you made it. You did it.
Now think of your life just one year from now if you went forward:
What are you doing?
Where are you?
What are you feeling?
How happy are you?
Who do you interact with on a daily basis? How much time on average do you spend around them? Do you like those people? How do you feel being around them? Are you happy you are spending most of your time around those people? Do they make you better?
How much closer are you to your goals?
How much of your life are you willing to commit to and invest in this? Give to what you are doing and where you are?
Think about if you’re in this same place five years from now. Is it where you want to be?
What’s in your life? Is there anything new? What’s different?
I like the second picture better, and sometimes we just need to be brave and honest enough with ourselves to imagine the possibilities of something different…but as our new reality, not just a dream we’d like to pursue.
What if you actually made that change you’ve been wanting to? What if you stopped putting it off?
I know what mine is. I know what’s in my heart. I know all the uncertainties attached to if I dive in.
But seeing the picture of how different my life could be, it’s so clear to me it’d be worth it. I wouldn’t be losing anything I already don’t want.
Looking at a picture of what my life would look like and feel like if I continued in the same way, holding off making that change, I don’t want that to be my life in two years. And if I don’t want it to be my life in two years, then why do I let it be my life now? If it’s not getting me where I want to be and it’s not what I want now, why am I accepting it or letting it be?
Because moving forward takes some work. The decision is clear and easy. It’s the transition out of where you’ve been and if the next thing you move into is going to work. You can’t entertain “what if it’s…” thoughts.
You decide. You take action. You make it what you want.
Because you do have that power. It’s your life. You don’t have to live it dictated by others; people will always have opinions on what you should or shouldn’t be doing, but you’re the one who has to live it and be in it. Why not make it one you love?
Think of what you are doing now. The choices you are making. The things you are allowing. Think of the changes you want to make, the things you want to do. Is the path you’re on now taking you there?
Find something that’s worth it and invest yourself into it. Find where you thrive and hang out there. Don’t stay somewhere just to coast through. Get a direction you want to go and go towards it. Take those steps. Make it happen.
I don’t want to waste my life, my talent, my energy, my heart, my creativity, my passion, my time, all this goodness in me I have to give on something that doesn’t even turn about real value I feel makes an impact.
Every day there are needs in this world and each one of us is an answer. If we’re preoccupying ourselves in spaces, work, people (etc) that just waste what we have to give, I’m not saying our impact is lost…I’m saying our potential is untapped.
You have so much potential and if you feel it’s just being wasted inside you, don’t wait to make a change and pursue the direction you know you should be going. I’m telling you, you have the power to do amazing things because you’re you. You have something to offer, something to give. Don’t wait, don’t put it off. Go for it. Start doing something today. Invest your energy in positive things you believe in and want to see happen.
That’s what I’m going to do. I hope you do, too.
