Hi! I’ve had this up on wattpad for a while now and just wanted to share it on other platforms. It’s still in progress (very slow progress, but progress nonetheless), needs to be edited more than it is, and the beginning is rough, but it gets worse before it gets better, promise😬.
Chapter 1- The Snape Family Backstory

Severus Snape never had a good father figure to look to growing up. Tobias was abusive. Verbally and physically. Not only was this abuse towards his mother, Eileen, but also to him.
Severus loved his mother dearly and vowed to himself that if he ever found someone he could call his own, he would never treat them the way his so called "father" treated him and his mum.
Soon enough, he was going to Hogwarts, getting sorted, learning magic, even making friends. When he met Lily Evans before going to school at Hogwarts, he thought she would be the one he would be with in the end. At only 11 years of age, he believed this girl could be the one he spent the rest of his life with.
That was until a few years later, Lily's best friend since birth, Emilia Quinn, joined the school as well. She was beautiful. She had blonde hair, green eyes and a smile that anyone could fall in love with. She was in the year below Severus and she took a liking to him just as he did to her. She was in forth year, he was in fifth. They were both in the same house and had mostly the same classes. She was smart as well, always among the top students in the classes.
Emilia was the one to make the first move. She sat next to Severus in potions class so that when Professor Slughorn paired partners, they would be together because they were now seatmates.
They obviously got along great. You could say it was love at first sight.
One thing led to another, and they were now in a serious relationship. (No pun intended. I'm sorry I had to, now I'll get back to the story.) However, with Severus' current home situation and a bit of help from his fellow Slytherins, he starts spiraling into a rabbit hole of dark magic. The dark lord was gaining power and the more power he rose to, the more followers who appeared as well.
Emilia knew about how badly Severus' father treated him and his mum and she tried her best to help him through tough times as best as she could. However, she didn't know about his association with the dark arts or dark wizard in the making. Since she's been friends with Lily for so long, she spent most of her time around her and the rest of the Gryffindors when she wasn't with her boyfriend.
Severus made it through the rest of his school years without dragging Emilia into the mess he was in. He made it to graduate from Hogwarts with her, still somehow managing to hide his dark mark from her.
It was only a few years after Hogwarts that things between the seemingly perfect couple became problematic. Rumors of a certain dark wizard named Voldemort started to surface, and to keep his one true love safe, Severus distanced himself from Emilia. Also causing her to become suspicious of his actions in the process.
This led to a shit ton of arguments.
One of the biggest and the last argument they had was on the night that Emilia was going to tell Severus she was pregnant.
Severus had planned to break up with Emilia. Voldemort was getting too powerful and he was afraid that if he found out about their relationship, he'd target her.
He waited for her in the kitchen of their home and when she entered, all hell broke loose.
Severus said some things that he knew would make Emilia hate him, he thought the more he could break her heart, the easier it would be for her to leave him behind and start a better life with someone who could protect her better than he could. Whatever personal thing she told him and thought she could trust him with, he brought into the fight.
By the end of the dispute, Emilia was left heartbroken and and walked away from the place and person she had called home for so many years. But the worst part was, Severus still didn't know she was carrying his child.

Time Skip (8 1/2 months later)
Emilia gave birth to Avyanna Eileen Snape on 1 August, 1981. She looked just like her father. But with her mum's green eyes.
After losing the love of her life, she stopped contacting people. This included Lily Evans, now Lily Potter. Neither one of them knew of the children that were only a year and a day apart. Still, nobody thought anything of it, the news never spread to the friends because they both assumed they were too busy with their partners to even think about settling down.
But, yet again, the dark lord had to come ruin things again. This time, it would be irreversible.

With Emilia being a single mother and the dark lord at power again, Severus was still trying his best to protect her from afar, even though he didn't know he had a kid. In doing so, he turned to Albus Dumbledore for help. He asked him to hide her from everything that had to do with dark magic. Especially if the name Voldemort was to be brought into it.

31 October, 1981
Emilia had heard news about her friend Lily and everything that was being planned. The dark lord going after her and her family. The last thing Emilia wanted was her childhood best friend to suffer such a fate. Especially if she could do something to help.
She tried desperately to track anything she could about the whereabouts of the Potter family, only to find something when it was too late.
She brought Ava with her, thinking that when she got to Godric's Hollow, she'd bring her friends home with her where they'd all be safe.
Arriving at Godric's Hollow was one of the worst things Emilia could have done. Unknowingly, she walked into a house with a very dark wizard still inside, waiting for just the person who was about to turn the corner.
Frantically calling Lily's name, she searched the house looking for evidence of her person. She reached the nursery, hearing the sound of a crying baby and now seeing the dead body of someone who she looked at as an older sister.
What she failed to notice was Voldemort, wand pointed at her, ready to fire the killing curse.
Emilia's body dropped to the ground as a bright green light hit her straight in the chest. Ava was still in her mother's arms.

Albus Dumbledore knew of everything that happened that night.
He knew about Harry.
He knew about Ava.
And he knew exactly how to tell Severus that he failed to protect the person he swore he would.
Albus, being the powerful wizard he is, used magic to make Severus' mark burn as if the dark lord were calling him to the destination of devastation.
He found Emilia's body. Pale. Cold. Lifeless.
She was gone.
He had no way to make things right with her. No way to make things up to her.

Since Dumbledore knew about Ava, who her parents were, and what she's already been through at only two months old, he left her in the care of Minerva McGonagall until he felt that Snape's had enough time to grieve over the loss of his lover.

1 Year Later
Dumbledore showed up on the door step of 15 Spinners End a few weeks after Ava's first birthday.
He explained the situation to Severus, who almost broke down then and there at the thought of him having a daughter and not even knowing until now. If he had known about her, he never would have ended things the way he did, if at all.
The guilt practically swallowed him whole.
He thought it was his fault that the love of his life was dead. Now their child is left without a mum as well!
Even with the guilt he still felt, he knew he owed it to his daughter and who he thought would be his future wife, to take care of her, protect her and love her as a father should.
When he met his daughter for the first time, he saw how much they looked alike, but he also saw so much of her mother in her too.
As he held Ava in his arms, he kissed the top of her head and promised his sleeping baby he'd love her and protect her with his life. He not only did this for her, but for himself as well, promising that no matter how hard their life became, he'd stay by her side through all of it.
He vowed to his daughter to be the father he never had.
