Announcement

A short while ago I created two side-blogs, both to help myself organize my content and to make my few followers find the content they’ve followed me to enjoy.

I shall keep using this main blog as my primary basis of sharing content across Tumblr that I like, however my more specific interests shall be shared with and posted on one of the two following blogs:

This is the blog I shall use for sharing science-fiction content, including the wonderful and interesting “Humans are Weird” & “Humans are Space Orcs” short stories that seem unique to Tumblr. 

I have also shared my little series “Studies & Theories of an Alien Species” where I take short descriptions and details of an alien species and using the direct and inferred information come up with a theorized physical appearance for them. So far all of the species in this series come from a wonderful Tumblr writer @starr-fall-knight-rise, who I recommend to those that enjoy the “Humans are Weird” & “Humans are Space Orcs” genre. With hope I’ll be adding more species to this series in the future and I am open to requests, PM me for details.

I will also be working on adding more of my own original content to this side-blog, a Sci-Fi setting I am working on called “Stars & Salt”, a sci-fi universe with Lovecraftian/Lovecraft-lite themes in which humans are but one of multiple races, yet we certainly are one of the weird ones. I suppose it could fall into the “Humans are Cthulhu” or “Lovecraftian humans” category. So far I have no intentions to write any stories for this setting and will be focusing on creating the locations, species, and overarching themes sharing them as they are put into more detail, as they are currently in the conceptual stage.

This is the blog I shall use for sharing Dungeons & Dragons content that I find interesting across Tumblr as well as concept & ideas of my own. 

I have long been a huge fan of D&D, though I have never gotten much chance to play as often as I would like during high school and after, though I’ve made up for that with a plethora of characters and worlds that currently exist in conceptual form that I would love to put more detail into.

One of the main bits of content that I will be starting with on this blog is sharing several characters that I created throughout the 2020 Covid-19 Quarantine, characters that either started out as cool concepts or as cool combinations of race & class, which evolved via the adding of backstories and planned storylines that I felt should be shared.

Hopefully this announcement makes things clearer for people who find their way to my blog and that this helps those looking for specific content find their ways to following the appropriate blogs.

Summary:

After Raph and Ramona were the first to get married, the whole Hamato Clan moved out of the sewers and into a Donnie-designed multigenerational home in the Hidden City! There, many of them found enjoyable jobs that they could freely be themselves in (now that they were surrounded by a community of yokai)! MJ and Eli were soon to follow in the marriage train, and April and Donnie rounded it off later as well. Leo and Mikey remained single by choice, happy enough living all together with their family. After a while, Raph and Ramona had their first child, a daughter, Esmene. She grew to be 2 years old before MJ and Eli adopted their own daughter, Melody. (see designs below)

Jobs:

Raph+Leo - Wanted to honor their father’s legacy, and so founded a quality Lou Jitsu Dojo in the Hidden City. They now teach the way of the ninja to a number of young, eager students.

Donnie+Mikey - Both complete personal commissions for various, on-call customers. Donnie’s comms feature high-performance technology and coding programs (tho he keeps the best for himself and his family, ofc) while Mikey’s are completely art-focused.

April - Works as a top reporter for the local yokai news casters; typically seen in her poodle yokai cloaked form when on air.

Ramona - Stuck out her studies and became a professional physical therapist in addition to her seasonal part-time job as a middle school cross country coach.

Eli+MJ - MJ eventually joins Eli at Hueso’s restaurant and the two slowly climbed the ladder there as an efficient and inseparable pair.

Kids:

Esmene (ez-meen) - Raph+Ramona’s 1st

Shares traits from both her mom and dad, yet still has her own unique style. She’s very spunky, outgoing, and protective of her younger siblings once they’re introduced. 💜

Melody - Eli+MJ’s only child

She’s my own design for a Japanese creature called a ‘tengu’ which is a half-bird half-man legend, typically featuring red and black coloring. Melody’s a sweethearted soul with a little trickster/sassy energy thrown in. With her parents’ combined love for music, she quickly lives up to her name with her own passion for the art. 💛

the idea i had for this story was the concept of 'what happens to an unrealized or unfinished idea after its creator is gone?'

here's the blurb i wrote to pitch the concept:

"Finding out that someone online has died is an entirely different feeling from a death experienced in-person. Because the online self is not the person. The online self is only whatever is presented in the digital space. They come on and offline, but without the physical presence, the closure never quite feels the same. As if the "online" light could tick green again at any moment, if you only wait long enough. That they might respond to your comment or message, if you only reach out one more time. Oftentimes when someone you know in person dies, you don't get to remember the last thing that you said to one another. But an online self embeds this information forever. The last public facing statement, the last dm. You can reflect forever and ever. Comment like a votive candle. Explain to others what seems to have happened, to a person you seemed to have known, but might have never known you at all. And there's this keen sense of loss when the online self is still alive as long as you can go back through and read the posts, the messages. It makes them alive again.

Celevie represents these feelings, and also largely the concept of what happens to unrealized ideas when the person dies. A story that might have been so beautiful and touching and just what somebody needed, but contained in a mind that is gone forever. And from what people know of the idea, they're forced to conceive their own version for what it might have could have been. A ghost ship of Theseus, something in the vague shape of a ghost of an idea. It's easy to deal with a lot of fear as a creator, a fear of sudden death, that you might have never made your 'masterpiece' or brought closure to a public facing thing that really meant something to you. I hope that Celevie represents that fear in perhaps a more comforting way, showing that maybe being a work in progress, something that is never finished, is something that we all are, and not something to fear."

ID / TL;DW: young Black man explains the history of voodoo dolls: they originated in England, where Black people where prohibited from learning to read or write, to help witches keep track of what ailed their patients. Eg., person goes to witch and laments headache, they treat their headache and make a small doll (called "poppet"), trying to represent them as good as possible, stick a needle in its head and put it up a shelf. When they return next week, the witch takes their poppet and asks about their headache. If it's gone, they remove the needle, otherwise they know they have to treat a rather persistent headache.
