I could care less about race. This is coming from a minority. Just give me a well written story with quality actors. That’s all I care!

The fact of the matter is that anyone who is not straight or white are rarely featured in Star Wars media in lead roles. This needs to be actively corrected not because people want it but because it is simply the right thing to do.

Most of the SW blogs I followed are dead and I only find blogs who don’t like TLJ (which is okay as long as they are civil) but I want to read some love for the movie. I think you misunderstood that tweet, @ladymothwing. It’s not talking about Kylo Ren. 

It’s talking about Luke, about Poe, and even Rey, because they all fucked up, in a way. Poe thought that he could save the Resistance by doing heroics, but that turned out to actually kill people instead of saving them, and in the end, he realized that. Luke thought that he could prevent another fuck-up like the one with Ben by shutting himself away on an island, but he saw that you can’t just turn your back on your mistakes, because they will come back to haunt you - you have to face them. And Rey? Rey thought that by bringing back Luke or saving Ben she could turn it all around, but had to learn that a) changing people is not that easy and b) bringing back hope and light isn’t a job for one person, but all of us together.

The movie itself was beautifully shot, for starters, and the plot was definitely believable. Just because it didn’t line up with your perfect, mostly based on fanon, vision does not give you the right to mope and complain and whine because you didn’t get your way.

For those of you complaining about how everyone, mainly Poe, was out of character, I ask you: how much did we really see of Isaacs’ character in TFA? The truth is we barely got to know him at all, and what was fleshed out about him was a witty, led-by-the-heart, heroic daredevil (broadly speaking, and again still with a little fan interpretation)—exactly what we saw in TLJ. Poe isn’t perfect. We’ve seen that he’s a hothead. Does this make him any less of a person? Part of loving a character is loving their flaws too.

And don’t get me started on the Kylo Ren/Ben Solo hate. I’m sorry if every star wars villain isn’t a macho, stoic badass that never cries. I’m sorry that you have to watch a thoroughly fleshed-out, plausible redemption arc that ACTUALLY serves a big purpose and moves the plot along. I’m sorry he killed a fan favorite character, I’m sure Abrams and Johnson deeply regret the misdeeds they commited and would take back every in-character action that personally offended you.

I could go on and on—and granted, I may even agree with you on some things rose/finn storyline i’m talking to you. But everyone would benefit from sitting back, stopping agressively attempting to find wrong in absolutely everything you see just for the sake of being “hip” and living up to crazy peer convention, and enjoying a Star Wars film that was actually, pretty darn good.

Completely agree, expeccially since this movie takes place immediately after TFA, I liked that you posted out that we really didn't see much of Poe's characterization. I always felt that TFA didn't have enough dynamic characters. If you think this movie just made Poe a headstrong stereotype, rewatch when he tells Finn to pull off of the final attack. When Finn doesn't, Rose gets hurt. Poe's arc was one of my favorite things about rewatching this movie

I don’t know, I would rather say: you’re not a real star wars fan unless you would physically fight j.j. abrams irl in grocery store parking lot as you defend star wars before he came along to shit all over it, shit all over the extended universe spanning decades of work, and blatantly try to pass off his remake of A New Hope with switched around characters and names but the same plot that he has the gall to call original material. Don’t even get me started on ripping off characters from the EU (personality, events, and looks to near exact likeness) and passing them off as new/original - when the knock-offs are far less compelling than what the EU gave us. This is why the EU was declared non-canon. 

Yeah, point is, Star Wars wouldn’t even be here without George Lucas, so I cut him far more slack than anyone involved with it - particularly the new films. Abrams being an arrogant, plagiarist, and a hack? Yeah, he deserves a solid ass-kicking for that nonsense and behavior.

And I’m not sorry for that opinion.

Wanted to give an update about the letters written to Disney.

(Also, apologies for not updating sooner, I only just picked up the letter yesterday.)

Everything should be readable, but I will transcribe the paragraphs that most regards the letters we sent:

Though I should also mention that if people are going to express their concerns on this response directly to Disney, they need to retain a calm head about it.
