I'm sorry but art needs it's context posted by it when in a museum. Not everyone understands why Malevich painted his black squares. Not all patrons will understand Rothko's thoughts pressed between his layers of paint. And not every one will be able to look at Kandinsky's symphony's on canvas and know what's going on. Every piece in every museum aught to have what it is, why it's important, and why/where it was created, and what reaction it got. I'm tired of the elitism in artistic culture that makes people feel as though they could never understand it. It's because they know the context and you don't! And museums have failed at that for years. It's their job to teach us, just as much as it's our job to be willing to learn.
today a woman dressed like a 90âs grunge Ghibli character complimented my work uniform at the same moment I opened my mouth to compliment her sense of fashion
I canât visualize what 90s grunge ghibli is like
Little straw hat, high-waisted jeans, red converse, plaid flannel... but cute. It was the sort of outfit youâd put a character in a idyllic coming of age movie set in 1993 in.
YEAH! Thatâs who she reminded me of!
I want to explain how weird dolphins are...
In anticipation of being able to clean a dolphin skull Iâve been thinking a lot about how completely FUCKY dolphins and other cetaceans are anatomy wise⊠Like they are some of the strangest, most alien mammals out there. Specifically their skulls and heads.Â
So this is your typical dolphin, a smooth round head with a cute smiling beak. You would think their skulls would be shaped like their heads, thatâs usually how skulls work. Something like thisâŠ.
But In reality their skulls actually look like THIS flat alligator thingâŠ
Iâm sure you are thinking⊠âWhere is the foreheadâ??? What if I told you that entire big lumpy forehead isnât actually its âforeheadâ but rather something called a âmelonâ which is actually part of the NOSE or nasal apparatus.
Its essentially just a big gross fluid/jelly blob masquerading as a decent forehead. The melon has evolved as a way of amplifying and detecting vocalizations used in echolocation. Other terrifying facts:
They have no ear holes, most sound is picked up by a combination of the melon and vibrations through the jaw bone.Â
They canât breathe through their mouths. There is something called a laryngeal plug completely separates the respiratory and digestive tracts. Cetaceans have been known to drown if their blowhole is obstructed.
Their breathing is not automatic. They must constantly think and chose when to take breaths.Â
Sperm whales (Also cetaceans) are the loudest animals on earth. If you were to swim right next to their giant heads as they released a sonar pulse the shockwave could cause internal bleeding and nerve damage. Partially thanks to their giant âmelonâ amplifying and directing the pulse.Â
American artist, Belle Baranceanu (1902-1988).
if you choose to believe that in hobbit culture fat = sexy then when Gollum called Sam a âstupid fat hobbitâ from Samâs perspective he was basically being called a himbo.
what gollum said: stupid fat hobbit
what gollum meant: ur ugly and stupid
what sam heard: youâre a hottie but youâre dumb as shit
sam:
older lotr illustrations sometimes depict Ă©owyn wearing ridiculously small armour. apart from the problem general sexualisation of the only female character (who really does anything), thereâs another hilarious thought:
Ă©owyn pretended to be dernhelm, a man. to fit in, she must have worn menâs armor. so the armor in the illustrations is normal for rohirrim.
therefore, all the rohirrim rode to war just like that:
thereâs a thundering sound in the distance as the rohirrim ride into war but rather than hoofbeats itâs the collective sound of all their cheeks clapping
the artist for this particular piece is Frank Frazetta and to be fair to him this is how he drew the orcs armorÂ
so the rohirrim comment is probably not that far off
Thatâs a man who just straight up had a problem with the concept of wearing pants into battle, and I respect that
male or female
hero or villain
sea or land
even in the snow
I guarantee you Frazettaâs Rohirrim were 100% pants-free
Good Old Frank. That man loved bodies and hated clothes so much
Original: Scar digs his claws on top of Mufasaâs so that it hurts while preventing him from moving. He then looms in close to whisper into his brotherâs ear so that the act of betrayal and horror of whatâs to come will sink deep into his mind during his last moments of life before getting shoved off to his death.
2019: Just punch him in the face.
1994 Scar: Savours the moment as he taunts his own flesh and blood before dealing the final blow
2019 Scar: Angry old man bitch slaps his brother off a cliff
Not escorting NPCs
Context: 5e campaign about raising a settlement on a continent, Goblins have been sighted skulking around our village, so weâre going to deal with them. Some of our young hunters want to join us, despite having never killed anything more than a deer. Iâm playing a Wood Elf Warlock/Monk.
Me: âKilling a humanoid is not the same as killing an animal. Do you have the will to do it?â
Inexperienced Hunter: âWeâve totally got what it takes! We can do this.â
Me: âOkay.â *hands them my shortsword* âStab me.â
GM: âRoll for intimidationâ
Not what I was going for, but alright. *Rolls Nat 20*
Inexperienced Hunter: ââŠWeâll go home now.â
Tiefling Ranger: âWhat was that? I know we were trying to dissuade them from joining us, but donât you think that was a bit extreme?â
Me: âI just asked him to stab me. I wanted to see if they have what it takes!â
TR: âYou canât just ask people to stab you!â *Turns to rest of party* âWould you stab him if he asked?â
Rest of party: âYes.â
the glass weapons in skyrim are so pretty to me and i want nothing more than a glass war axe in real life but i do love how the same weapons in oblivion look like theyve been infused with mountain dew
love this radioactive lime green gamer juice fuckery
Oh, what a lovely opportunity to tell you about Uranium glass
Called Vaseline/Uranium glass, it is indeed mildly radioactive and thus has an awesome green glow-- that is even stronger in UV black light.
Most pieces arenât dangerous- Uranium glass just stopped getting produced for the most part (they still make it for smaller often scientific purposes) because the sale of Uranium has been considerably restricted due to its dangerous military applications.
But it looks sweet! Before there were gamers..dayglo green was a popular glassware fad.
Drink up.
oh, is THAT why "nuclear" is always bright green in the popular consciousness?
