For those not in the know, this is one of the Amanita mushrooms referred to as a Destroying Angel. Never, ever, ever, ever forage with an app. Especially for mushrooms.

Mycologist here happy to give you the worst news! The toxin in destroying angels is called amatoxin and it perforates the cells plasma membranes (the “skin” basically of the cell) in your liver and they just sort of spill their shit out, like popping the worlds grossest water balloon. These mushrooms are often mistaken for edible species, the difference being that while button and puffball mushrooms are delicious, as little as half of a destroying angel mushroom cap can kill you if you don’t seek immediate treatment, and since (unlike say, a snake bite) it takes 5-24 hours for symptoms to appear, people often have no idea they’ve been poisoned until their livers are… well, stew. It’s VERY important to never forage for mushrooms unless you are absolutely certain, as in “willing to die over this” certain that you know what you are collecting! I have years of academic experience with mushrooms and I still won’t forage with the exception of a few easily identifiable species like lions mane that really don’t have dangerous doppelgängers. There are many delicious and safe mushrooms available at your local store, please do not eat wild mushrooms unless you know what you are doing! 🍄 💀

I've been reading The Hedgehog Diaries by Sarah Sands. It's about losing her father and how hedgehog rescuing and activism helped her recover. It gets really deep into the symbolism of the hedgehog and our universal love from them despite the majority ignoring their dwindling numbers.
