Hello, I'm @captainmera and this blog contains all of the comics and art of the folktale trio I've created. Mainly witteclaw content.

The work is not canon and not associated with Disney.

Everything is headcanon only, and based on the breadcrumbs the show gave us, as well as personal preference and enjoyment in writing stories.

Please do not take any of my takes on the characters personal, or as an attack on you or the characters.

Yes, I may have missed some clue or I am overthinking x, y, z. I don't really care.

You are free to agree or disagree as you wish, but I am not here to engage in drama or fulfil your personal views on the characters or what happened in canon.

I'm here to have fun with my headcanon and share that fun with whomever wants to consume it.

I've been rereading bits of TGB (binged the whole thing in 4 days a couple weeks ago) and I have to be the next person to tell you that Caleb is the most endearingly slippery wet rat bastard of a dead man I've ever read. istg I can *hear* his awkward fibbing gesticulations through the page! It's honestly pushed me to trying to write my own fanfiction for this show

Modern AU tourism.

I wonder what would have happened had Evelyn managed to kill Philip first and saved Caleb.

Or even restrain him before he can kill caleb

And then they got the city guards to apprehend him, and he got jailed for attempted murder and aggravated assault and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

And Caleb visits him in jail because, you know, the christian in him is hoping he can turn Philip over a new page.

But Philip is done with his development and is just simmering in the cradle years of his villain arc. He has already begun his palistrom addiction, too, so this is just Belos waiting to have his start-up. He's already psychologically past the point of no return.

In this AU, Caleb would embody the same theme Luz is going through in season one, where she thinks everyone is redeemable if you're just persistently good to them. Which is a lot harder of a moral orientation to get past if the person you're trying to connect with, and has empathy for, is your family.

Some people do deserve your second chances and your efforts. And some really don't, some people think you're a moron for trying to "help" them, because there's nothing (in their mind) they need help or saving for. And you do have to give up on taking the role of responsibility for their redemption. And if you love someone, and knew them before they became this thing, it can be difficult to let go.

It can be really difficult to let people you love go.

Evelyn would try to guide Caleb into an understanding that Philip has chosen something different, and isn't the boy he knew any more (or that she knew too).

She has always had the advance of being able to look at the brothers from the outside and personally know them; together and separately. So she knows how complex their brotherhood is and how they used to have a dynamic that at times were very wholesome, and other times codependent and unhealthy. Given that this is during a time when therapy and things like "unhealthy dynamics" wasn't a topic of discussion or something to be aware of. Domestic disputes and toxicity was normalised, even violence was so.. Y'know.

Evelyn understands that Philip is a clever guy, he always has been, but he's developed that into being a selfish manipulator. So she's trying to ease Caleb into a place of acceptance and make him choose himself, and that there's nothing bad about letting go of people who aren't good for you any more. But he gets a bit defensive for Philip and doesn't want to believe that Philip just.. Isn't Pip any more. Similarly to a modern family who may have a family member who is violent and cruel and abusive, maybe even criminal and has a lot of issues that they weaponise and etcetera.

Meanwhile, Philip is an angry little brat the whole time, and making acquaintances in jail that he's “friends” with, the same way he'd be “friends” with the coven heads.

Mob boss AU? lol.
