TMI but while I truly, really, wholeheartedly hope you have a wank to my smutty fics, what I hope for even more is that people who struggle with low libido because of meds manage to get horny from them
I’m off duloxetine now, but I distinctly remember the fics that managed to get me going when I hadn’t felt anything even remotely close in ages.
God bless smut writers for making me feel some sort of control over my body again

Charity Fic Commissions Poll
For those of you who don't know, Canada is on fire, and Indigenous communities are being disproportionately affected by the overwhelming damage.
A few writers and I are working on setting up charity commissions where people would show proof of donations to charities such as:
Anishinabek Nation 7th Generation Charity
Ontario Native Women's Association
Mikinakoos Emergency Fund
Red Cross
True North Aid
Indigenous Climate Action
Any others with an appeal that appears on an official First Nation, Tribal Council or registered charity channel
Before we set up the commissions, we are putting out this poll to see interested numbers so that we are able to effectively decide how many commission slots we will offer and how long the commissions will be.
At the moment, we are thinking of commissions being 1,000 words maximum for 10$ minimum donated (or your local currency equivalent) but that is subject to change depending on interest. Most of us write for COD, but more information about characters/fandoms will be available when we make the official post.
Would you be interested in a Charity Commission?
Yes
No
Even if you're not interested in a commission, I highly encourage you to donate if you are able to! Lev's post is a very valuable resource and source of information if you'd like to do further research.
Please reblog this post, not only for sample size but to get word out about the fires and the charities.

Cultural Practices: Pai Sho - The Game
I'm honestly a little embarrassed it took me this long to get to this topic! As always, credit goes to @atla-lore-archive for saving all the neat ATLA tidbits and concept art from the old Nick website.
Pai Sho (牌數), meaning "several game pieces" in Chinese, takes inspiration from a few different table games:
Its most obvious influence is the German game Sternhalma, known in the English-speaking world as Chinese Checkers. Like Chinese Checkers, the game is played on a circular board.
The lines on the board and the circular tiles are reminiscent of Xiàngqí (象棋), known in the English-speaking world as Chinese Chess. The pieces often being positioned on the intersection of lines is also very similar to Chinese Chess.
The game's four player limit and visually creative tiles are reminiscent of Mahjong (麻将), China's most famous tile game. In particular, the iconic white lotus tile appears to draw heavily from the classic Mahjong one-dot tile.
Finally, the name Pai Sho was likely inspired by Pai Gow (牌九), meaning "nine game pieces" in Cantonese--- which is both a domino game and a style of poker.
Just like ATLA's animals, it seems that Pai Sho is a fusion of different real life sources. In the next posts, I'll be covering the symbolism and cultural significance behind each Pai Sho tile shown in ATLA.
Like what I’m doing? Tips always appreciated, never expected. ^_^

Pride month vest project, a patch a day #29: Wheat But Not Bread, Fruit But Not Wine
As my friend Julian puts it, only half winkingly: "God blessed me by making me transsexual for the same reason God made wheat but not bread and fruit but not wine, so that humanity might share in the act of creation."
-- Daniel Mallory Ortberg
This has been driving me insane because this quote is so incredibly Jewish but every time I saw it was completely divorced from Judaism in the version applying it to 'transsexual'.
The original concept that humans complete the act of creation by making bread from wheat is from the Talmud! And the specific "wheat but not bread, grapes but not wine" phrasing is from Jewish theologian Abraham Heschel but it is missing "clay but not bricks".
And among trans Jews the sentiment was already popular before I ever started seeing this specific phrasing so I knew, knew, knew a Jew and likely a trans Jew was involved.
As it happens, Ortberg's friend Julian is Jewish and they have strongly negative feelings about the way the quote has been removed from the context of their life as someone trans and Jewish. They used to have a thread up on xwitter about it but have since made their account private and only have a very terse FAQ online from which you can glean the treatment they likely received when being more open about their Jewishness, relationship to transness, and the interaction of both.
I've always thought there was something extremely Jewish about that quote! I had no idea that Julian is Jewish.
I looked at Julian's twitter and there's a linked in bio thread about this quote. There are a few clarifying tweets there
1. Julian isn't Jewish.
2. The quote actually is influenced by Jewish theology, specifically Rabbi Akiva.
Anyway, I'm glad I saw their twitter and the thread about this famous quote. It's often misattributed, and it's clear that it annoys Julian when people post this quote starting with "As my friend Julian puts it..." and then cite Danny Lavery (usually with a surname he no longer uses) as the author, when the original quote is available as a tweet from 2018.
really specific trope i like that i feel like can only be explained in a diagram
