“Hmm.” Ivan pretended to think it over a minute before carelessly kicking his feet over the coffee table to recline. “Nope, it always works out pretty well for me.”

               ‘ creativity has been my only outlet, really. more specifically music than anything else. i play viola, i sing, i can play piano, but not GOOD. drawing was something i always wished i could do, but i was never very good at it. ‘ she kept trying though. it had been the source of a lot of frustration, but she kept at it. ‘ books? i might have to raid your collection while i’m here. literature is something i ADORE. it lets you really escape the shitty reality of the world. ‘

  ℳerrick raised his eyebrows for a second when the woman cursed. Of course he had heard the members of his household use such language, but he himself rarely swore. Yet was still a tad uncomfortable using it. He then relaxed his expression and cleared his throat quietly. “Yes, books are a wonderful thing. If you like I could show you my collection.” He gestured towards the second level of the house.

     “What are you up to?” Merrick asked, tilting his head to       the side as he watched Phoenix from across the room.       “By the look on your face-- it’s nothing good.” He joked.

  34 - Gentle peck

      𝔼arly in the morning, the sunlight barely shining through the curtains of Phoenix’s room, birds faintly chirping outside on tree branches already having woke up for the day. Merrick rolled over onto his side and gently placed his hand on Phoenix’s waist before leaning over to her and placing a peck on her cheek. “Good morning.”

              ‘ she’s not wrong- i practically live for the arts. ‘ music, literature, art- all of it. she enjoyed it far more than ANYTHING. ‘ i was a music performance major in my human life, so the arts are practically drilled into my soul by now. but what about you? what are your hobbies? ‘

  “𝓣hat sounds wonderful, I’m glad you have such an interest in them. They are a wonderful thing. Very creative in many different ways.” Merrick mused as he chuckled quietly after speaking. He was a little surprised when she asked about him, he didn’t get asked that all too often. “Me? Well let’s see...” He paused to recap a bit of his life. “I’m no stranger to keeping things tidy, I have a fair collection of books and vinyl records, and I do enjoy exploring the English countryside and lake district from time to time.”

Melissa shrugged gently. “As expected. A few loose ends but the case is closing, regardless.” She sighed, a little disappointed.

   ℳerrick walked out of the kitchen with a cup of tea in his hands. It was a quiet day, Phoenix, James , and Ivan were out n the city doing some shopping, leaving Salieri and Merrick the only ones in the household. As he took a seat in the living room he heard movement and took note that it must have been Salieri. Merrick took a sip of the tea before setting it down on a near by side table and then proceeded to pick up a book and begin reading.

“Try not to punch a hole in that wall” James said even though he was pretty sure that Merrick would never go that far even if he was definately capable of losing his temper. “I don’t think it will help but I do appreciate that you want to give it a try” honestly he was hoping that the other vampire would get through to Ivan but he doubted it. He doubted anyone was capable of that.

“Okay, I guess I can stop by in Canada on my way. It’s been a while since I saw Jay” Ivan would definately not be happy that he pulled another disappearing act but it did seem like the best choice at the moment.

   “No he may not be overly happy about it. But it could help you. Make you feel better. Which is also important. And it will allow you to see your friends as well.” Merrick said calmly giving a small nod. “While you’re in the America’s, we will try and sort things out here. Hopefully when you get back things will be able to be smoothed over nicely.”

                  ‘ dude, i live in a permanent state of MESSINESS. this place looks pristine to me. ‘ it seemed that even IMMORTALITY couldn’t cure her extreme laziness- the fuel for her MESS of a lifestyle. ‘ told me??? it might disappoint you, but i only know that you’re her MATE. that’s about it, buddy. i’m sure she told you nothing about me. ‘

 A permanent state of messiness. Merrick couldn’t imagine how that felt, nor did he want to. He was a bit disappointed when he heard that Phoenix hardly mentioned him, though it wasn’t his place to be demanding that he be the topic of every conversation they have. “-- That is true. And She has said a bit. That you’re a nice person, you enjoy the arts and such. I suppose now we can converse officially, instead of just having Phoenix relay information back and forth every now and then.”

   “Different? What makes you say that?” Merrick said      giving a small smile towards the woman. “But that’s      wonderful that the investigation is complete. I trust      everything went well?”
