“sounds like you’ve got a real interesting grad school thesis started – i’d love to see some of your sources. especially the ones about his propaganda and his romanticization of reality. i’m going to guess you’ve read some of his works – probably for school, probably romeo and juliet, and maybe even midsummer’s night dream, but what about othello? whose title character may very well be the first time a person of colour is featured in such a flattering, stately, eloquent, and downright graceful light in contemporary writing at that time? who is the hero of misguided good against iago’s baseless and downright evil villainy? or what about merchant of venice? a lot of people like to claim it’s an anti-semitic play, and i can understand that if you’re looking at it through the lens of today’s literary analysis. shylock is a bad guy, sure – but unlike other works at the time, he’s not a bad guy because he’s a jew. he’s a bad guy because of the years of degradation and antisemitism and baseness leveled on him. marlowe never touched on why his jewish characters were evil – he was perfectly fine with giving his audience a caricature of humanity and allowing them to perpetuate the stereotype. but shakespeare transcended his time and its thoughts on race and religion. he should be remembered for that, at least.” and idolized, too, but perhaps this isn’t the conversation to say it in. “your final point, though – snobbery of the theatre does exist, and i’m sorry you think i’m displaying it right now. i tend to get a little defensive when someone tries to tell me the craft that i’ve worked my whole life to hone is a piece of shit because it was produced by an old white guy. i’m perfectly aware shakespeare wasn’t the be-all end-all of humanity, and that there are hundreds of writers today who shed light on the same kind of injustices he did with a more relevant background into them. but if you truly think shakespeare’s work is outdated and a thing of the past and shouldn’t be studied, then you clearly haven’t read close enough. we’re still making the same dumbass mistakes that his characters did, four hundred years later.”
GREAT . . . HE REALLY WAS AN ASSHOLE HUH? ‘ i never said your craft was a piece of shit. that would make me just as BAD as the snobs. ’ he replies , sighing out his frustrations. ‘ i simply said that his work was flawed and just like any other flawed thing we should all analyze it’s mistakes and learn from them , not behave as though anyone and everyone who does it is beneath us somehow. and you’re right , his stories have been around for centuries and they are still applicable today. for the most part. so what does that tell us? perhaps his mind was ahead of it’s time but behind this one. his work has been studied for years. if no one is listening , maybe we need to change the words we’re using. i have no issue with people enjoying shakespeare for what it is and the limitations it brings. it’s a STORY , not the holy grail. and as a story that it was , he wanted people to listen to it , he needed people to listen to it. he had some good points sure , but they were all wrapped up so they could be easier to swallow. i’m not just against the IDOLIZING of your dear old white man , i’m against the idolizing of everything. because once you idolize something , it gets personal and when it gets personal , you become unable to see the it’s issues. i’m sure shakespeare was a great dude but the fanaticism that comes with his work seems almost religious at this point and you’ll excuse me but i was never a fan of blind devotion. ’ he takes in a breath , a moment spared to gather his thoughts. ‘ you must be a great actress , my mother wouldn’t have you here if you weren’t. but if people can’t criticize your job without you getting defensive , you already lost. i’ve seen other people get lost in the material they study , pretend it’s the most important undeniable truth to ever exist. it never is. it doesn’t matter if you’re an actor , a plumber or an astronaut. there’s always more. ‘ he smiles at her and this time , it’s a genuine one. ‘ and by the way , for your information , romeo and juliet is actually one of the few i have never read. not even for school. did watch the movie , though. it was absolute GARBAGE. ’
🏹
THEY HADN’T KNOWN UNCERTAINTY OF THIS SCALE BEFORE . SAND IN HIS FACE RATHER THAN JUST THE GLADE’S DIRT . it was all amounting to something that was too much , or perhaps , nothing at all . he wasn’t sure what made him more anxious . regardless , he kept his expressions notoriously void of divergence or feeling . the most was a frown , and even that felt customary now , shuddering under the cold night . ❝ what the fuck is going on , thomas . ❞ @greani .
WHAT THE FUCK INDEED , THE YOUNG RUNNER THOUGHT. he wasn’t exactly CERTAIN why it seemed as though the others believed he would always have answers to questions he had barely even thought of himself , but it was apparently something that was quickly turning into a TREND around there. still , he decided to reel in his frustration at their current situation. ‘ i don’t know , ’ he replies with a calculated whisper , staring at the scene before them a moment longer before glancing back at the boy , looking almost as if he’s expecting to see something other than what he finds. ‘ but if you have a knife or something , NOW would be the time to get it out. ’ just in case.
🎭
“oh! now i understand.” feigning the look of clarity, eyes wide, mouth just-so turned down in a demure sort of pout, a favourite tactic of hers whenever ignoring someone’s mansplaining was perhaps not the easiest ( or most necessary ) course of action. “so you’re familiar with the plays, you just don’t have a soul to enjoy them. or is it more like you hate them because it’s the cool thing to do? you don’t strike me as the idiot who follows trends – more like the idiot who makes them.”
A LAUGH COMES TO GREET THE GIRL , an eyebrow lifted with uncertain curiosity ---- was this some sort of strategy or was she truly this arrogant ? ‘ flattery will get you anywhere. ’ the boy bites back with amusement. ‘ but i have NOTHING against the plays or the souls that enjoy them. i just don’t agree with the IDOLIZATION behind it. shakespeare was a kiss - ass , propaganda writer , who liked to pretend he was better than everyone by using fancy language and cheap storylines that revolved around nothing but the ROMANTIZATION of reality. most of it , might i add , conditioned by his biased view of the world. he wasn’t a god , he was a writer. a FLAWED at that. his characters are unidimensional and one track minded at the very best. you want a sequel ? i say there’s plenty of writers nowadays who are just as talented if not more and get no RECOGNITION whatsoever. if only you people stopped living in the past maybe theater wouldn’t be a dying art. and since we’re here , let’s also add that : just because someone doesn’t enjoy something you do , it doesn’t mean they’re any less cultured or sensitive than you. maybe it just means life has gone a little differently for them. that kind of FANATICISM has it’s very own classification in the insanity department. you’re an actress , right? i shouldn’t have to explain this to you ... ’
🎭
she can do sassy asshole just as well, thomas. “oh, i’m sorry. i didn’t mean to assume you were well - read.” the jest is accompanied with a smile of her own, and perhaps it’s because she really has been playing beatrice for too long, but her teeth look as if they could eat his heart in the marketplace just as well. “much ado about nothing? ever heard of it?”
‘ SWEETHEART , ’ OH YES , THE BOY CONDESCENDS. go ahead , bare your teeth. he is no stranger to bleeding flesh. ‘ just because you read a lot of books doesn’t mean you’re any SMARTER for it. quality over quantity does it just fine. and of course i heard of it , my house is filled with those dumbass books. what else would my mom FORCE - FED me every night before bed ... doesn’t mean i have to give a shit about or remember any of it though. ’
🌕
@greani told me to ‘add it to the list’ but i said yolo and wrote a one-liner starter instead
“She is still grumpy.” Teresa informs solemnly, gently playing with their daughter’s tiny fingers. “I’ve been rubbing her belly all afternoon but I don’t think it’s working.”
‘ GIVE HER TO ME. ’ he asks , dirty working hands quickly wiped clean upon old pants , shinning eyes joining his lips in a greeting smile. and just like that , his voice somehow becomes softer , whispered KINDNESS dripped in honey as the world around him melts into nothing. ‘ she just missed me , right? ’ he tells the small child , gently bouncing up and down while playfully bitting down on her nose , causing her to chuckle out the most BEAUTIFUL sound he had ever heard in his life. ‘ yeah , she just missed me. your mom is boring , right? boring old mom. what she had you do , huh? did she tried to teach you the what the human bones are called again? yeah! she tried that with me too once. yes , she did , ’
🎭
OPEN !
“i know will’s been dead for a good 400 years but i’m still waiting for the much ado sequel where beatrice has to disguise herself as a man to stir some shit up. bonus points if she’s specifically disguised as benedick.”
IN THAT MOMENT , CONFUSION IS ALL HE FEELS towards the girl currently babbling at him , a squinted frown mirroring the emotion more and more as words go by. ‘ you know i’m just here to fix the computer , right? ’ the boy asks , a mocking smirk pulling at the right corner of his lips. ‘ i have no clue what the hell you just said to me. ’
✨ HEADCANON / thomas likes pineapple on his pizza but if you ask him he’ll deny it.
🐾
CRAP. WHY COULDN’T SHE GET RID OF THIS GUY? miles had been placed between them, yet thomas somehow still manages to find her. is he a werewolf and using her scent to track her? or a hunter following her? or, the most likely case, is he lost and following the loud noises emitted from combat? the truth could be saved for later ( she would be bombarding him with questions afterwards. and this time, he’d answer every single one. ), since her previous opponent’s attention has shifted from her to the other, both of them taking off in a sprint through the trees, far from her view. regaining her breath, malia pauses. with the hunter now occupied, she can run and find scott, warn him and the others that the woods weren’t safe. let thomas handle the issue on his own and fight for himself. but she’s not the same person she was when first turning back into a human. instinct tells her to save herself, but she can’t just leave someone who’s being attacked. well, she can, but it wouldn’t be the right thing to do. not to mention what her alpha would say if he found out she let a human get killed without at least trying to help. disappointing scott mccall is a punishment within itself.
it doesn’t take long to catch up; heightened abilities give her speed surpassing that of two humans. lunging from the ground, malia tackles the hunter, knocking both of them down. claws ripping at the skin of his arms, the coyote gazes over at thomas, allowing her eyes to fade back to a soft brown, though her claws and fangs remain. ❛ get out of here now. ❜ she takes a moment to break the male’s wrist, ensuring that he can’t hold any weapons to use against them. ❛ seriously, GO. ❜
HE HESITATES , UNSURE FEET SHIFTING BACK AND FORTH as reason fights MORALITY in quite the literal match to the death. that is after all what will happen if he stays ... most likely. and she seems to have it handled , a wince spared in sympathy at the man’s broken wrist. still , he can’t just leave her there , claws or not. no matter how much he wants to. in the end , she could’ve done the same thing to him and she had chosen not to. and what if their attacker had company? what if it was a trap? it didn’t matter how blue her eyes were shinning , when it came to traps , that was thomas’ area of expertise. ‘ what? ’ he mumbles back a clumsy reply. ‘ NO , not without you. just ... break his leg or something and let’s go ! ’

OH REBEL CHILD , WHERE IS THE MOON? WHERE GOES IT’S SHINE , LATE NIGHT IN JUNE. WHERE IS THE LIGHT , WHERE IS THE SUN? IF SHADOWS HIDE WILL MORNING COME? the door was made of the kind of shinning metal thomas was certain bullets could not go through. and for that , the minute it had been locked on him he had known he was TRAPPED. windows seemingly a foreign concept to wicked’s architects , the only other way out his recently acquired one mattress apartment looked to be the small wall slit through which someone pushed his lunch and dinner at exactly the same time every day. a timing he was very familiar with , considering he had spent a good part of his first days in captivity counting exactly how many seconds between every delivery. as for the rest of his time? he knew what needed to be done , newt’s words ringing stubbornly in his ears every time the idea of giving up even dared lurk into his brain. YOU GET LAZY , YOU GET SAD. START GIVING UP. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. so he stayed BUSY. every morning , he awoke at the same time , made his ridiculously simplistic bed and kept his body and mind moving. from push - ups to reciting the few glader’s names he somehow had stored away in his brain on a loop , thomas knew that if when the bulletproof gate that imprisoned him was to open again , he had to be ready for whatever came through it. if only they had given him a spoon , he would have gotten started on some sort of tunnel.
THERE IS NO MOON , OH DEAR OLD BOY. IT HAS NO MIGHT , IT BRINGS NO JOY. THERE IS NO SUN , OH LIFELESS YOUTH. WHEN SHADOWS HIDE , YOU’LL SEE NO TRUTH. but then come the VOICES. his friend’s desperate begs for a helpful hand he could not give , FEAR he could not stop , pain he could not HEAL. all screamed past the opening that had once fed him , playing on repeat , night and day , day and night. he had tried everything. from yelling back , to threatening , to even hauling himself against one and all surfaces that might give away. but it remained USELESS , his bleeding bruised body eventually growing tired of the pointless struggle , the screams slowly becoming one , no longer distinguished by levels of stress or tones of voice , no longer belonging to anyone other than himself , their agony his now , their ANGUISH his fault somehow. so much so he found reality tip toeing the line between salvation and pure insanity , his hands covering his ears in sorrowful surrender as he allowed himself to beg for mercy. soon , he had forgotten the sheets he had so meticulously straighted every day for what now felt like years , resting in a curled ball against the cold harsh floor in a sleepless transe. and if only they had given him a spoon , he could have gotten started on some sort of GRAVE.
FOR TRUTH BRINGS DEATH TO ALL OF YOU. FROM FEAR TO HOPE , GOES THROUGH AND THROUGH. FOR DEATH BRINGS TRUTH TO ALL THAT’S YOU. THERE IS NO MOON , YOU ALWAYS KNEW. and that is why he doesn’t notice when the sounds finally stop , doesn’t hear the door creaking or the rushed steps that hurry inside. what he can do , is feel foreign hands as they land upon his shoulders , the adrenaline burning in his veins causing him to jolt up in a rush , back hitting against the rough walls , dry blood still holding onto his shaking hands that had not long before attempted to CLAW their way out of confinement. ‘ finn … ? ’ he mumbles , frowning as his untrained voice fails half way through. his head is spinning , dark circles having dug a home under his eyes. perhaps he was dreaming , he thinks , HALLUCINATING. it wouldn’t have been the first time. but there is too much pain in movement , stumbling forwards hesitantly , barely standing straight , wide hues in a perpetual state of disbelief. this had to be some sort of trick. after all , why would his brother risk getting caught by the very same people he had been so tiredly trying to escape? UNLESS … ‘ what are you doing here? ’ please don’t say you work for them , please don’t say you work for them , not you too, not you !
/ ⚠ / FIND THOMAS AFTER THEY LOCKED HIM AWAY AND THREW AWAY THE KEY.
👹
“you sure he’s gone?” it’s not meant to be antagonistic, for once, and tesla even spares thomas a side - glance as they walk, hiking his backpack further up onto his shoulders. “cuz the guy i met back then would’ve done anything for the cure.” even if it meant sentencing his friends to imprisonment and certain death. was paradise really that different from the maze? nothing was guaranteed but that they’d all die one day – be it from grievers, or crank, or old age. what was the point of making it out of the maze if there was nowhere else for them to run?
still, tesla knows what thomas means – they aren’t wicked’s puppets anymore. they get to make their own choices now, atone for the things they’ve done under false flags. and tesla sure has a lot to make up for. “sorry – i guess i just – i dunno. i’m not like you, or the others. i never got the chance to figure out who i was without wicked.” and, if he’s being honest, he still hasn’t. paradise has been enlightening for some people, but tesla’s black sheep status hadn’t changed since they’d arrived ( he’s not sure it’s going to change after they get back, either, if they get back. thomas’ friends are a stubborn bunch. forgiveness isn’t what helped them survive this long, after all ).
HIS UNEXPECTED --- COULD IT BE CONSIDERED KINDNESS --- does not go UNNOTICED , a glance spared in the other’s direction before a sigh comes to rest upon thomas’ lips. ‘ it’s not the same thing. ’ the boy states without hesitation , shaking his head at the thought. for there should be no doubt in something he had rationalized so well in his own mind. ‘ we know there’s a cure now , we just need to figure out how to make it. this time we’re not torturing anyone else. if i die , i die. but we’re not taking away innocent lifes to save people who might not even deserve it. ’ chuck’s face flickers inside the runner’s mind and he can feel his heart tightening inside his chest. chuck was the one who should to be there , ALIVE , not thomas. anyone that had given their life to get them there ---- chuck , alby , winston , newt ... teresa ----- they should all be there. it was on him that they weren’t. ‘ so you’ll get your chance. ’ he speaks suddenly , bursting out of his own thoughts , an unexpected wave of SYMPATHY washing over the glader. chances were , tesla’s fate had probably rested upon his hands at one point or another. who was to tell him he wasn’t responsible for making him into what he was too. ‘ when we do this , things will get better. ’
👹
“and you think i am?” it’s almost impressive, really, how thomas can rile him up with only a few words. perhaps it’s years of practice dealing with jealousy, with rage, with going to bed attention starved, craving the validation thomas seemed to scoff at. they weren’t all that different, when they were younger, but it still feels like a lifetime away. he’s not sure a twelve year old tesla would recognize himself now ( but you weren’t tesla then, were you? you were WILLIAM, and he’s dead now. they’re all dead now ).
“i’m done lying to you. i was done the moment i stopped gaining anything from it.” the moment he lost her, he’d say, if he was waxing poetic and had decided the wound of gail’s death was not too fresh. but it was, festering and infected and green, growing around his heart, the only thing that could make it soft. “we used to be close. rivals, not enemies.”
YEAH , YOU’RE JUST GONNA HAVE TO EXCUSE HIM for not believing in the whole not LYING thing. ‘ well shit dude , my bad then. i didn’t realize this shirt said hey i’m willing to listen to a lunatic’s ravings about my long lost past. i was going for more of a shut the hell up sort of vibe guess i’m not that good with fashion statements yet. ’ / the boy speaks disdainfully , annoyance tamed FEAR misdirected at the other , a pebble kicked stubbornly into the open space before them. deep down , thomas knew well enough that tesla wasn’t the one he was TRULY angry at. he was angry at himself. at the person he had once been. angry at his choices , at his WEAKNESS. to let wicked manipulate him , manipulate them , use them , all of them , when he could’ve done something to stop it? he just couldn’t wrap his mind around what kind of person would do such a thing. NO. even after everything he had done , this wasn’t tesla’s fault. it was HIS. and it was about time he started owning up to it. after all , who was he to judge anyone’s actions? ‘ fine , whatever. ’ the runner resignedly mumbles to himself more than anyone else , arbored MISTRUST reluctantly placed aside to make way for the growing desire to start anew. for his own sake , if not for anyone else’s. ‘ look man , don’t get me wrong alright? i’m grateful you want to help with the cure and i’m willing to trust you on that. but i have no interest in who i was before this whole mess started. i already HATE myself enough as it is , i don’t need any more reasons. whoever you met back then , back at wicked , he’s gone. he’s been gone the moment i woke up in that damned box , ’
ᛊ
@curetw ♡’d for a starter.
fiery locks frame angelic features, jade eyes wide with fear and worry for the boy before her ; but no, clary won’t let any harm come to him. she dives in front of his form, seraph blade swung and connecting with the ravener demon before it has it’s chance to strike. the blade pierces it’s flesh and ichor seeps from it’s wound in a pained cry. it’s over . . . for now. but her attention is back ‘pon the stranger. tentatively reaching out to see if he’s been struck and poisoned. ❛ hey, it’s okay you’re safe now. are you hurt ? ❜
WIDE HUES SPEAK WORDS HIS TONGUE CANNOT , adrenaline coursing through fear burnt veins , a rushed brain struggling to make sense of the unknown reality that had stood before him mere seconds before. ‘ what the hell was that? ’ she OWES him nothing , but an explanation is demanded nevertheless. after all , there’s responsibility to those who can see what most cannot. brown eyes befall upon the glowing blade before hurriedly drawing the curves her figure , almost as if the boy expects an answer to materialize before the two of them. and perhaps it should go without saying. but for those who carry a hopeful heart , please , let us clear all DOUBTS from the mind : it does not. ‘ what the fucking hell was that? ’
🔥
DECAYING BREED RESTS HERE, PAINED / POISONED. it was wicked’s fault that she lies here now, bleeding to death ——— if she could. she can’t die, but she wasn’t alive either, her life a paradox in itself, giving and taking anything it needs from her, just like wicked.
how long has it been since she had seen another soul ? too long // or maybe, not too long after all. she no longer had a feeling for time, no longer a feeling for anything but pain. she hears you approaching, she knows the pace of your steps, she knows it’s you before you enter the room. bloodshot eyes dart over to the silhouette, anger foaming in her mouth. “ fuck you. ” she spits out between blood and saliva, choking on the mush that slips between her teeth like black venom.
“ ————– fuck you. ”
@curetw xo
HER WORDS SHOVE SHOCK INTO THE VERY BACK OF HIS MIND , eyes resignedly rolling at the realization that even in her DEATHBED ( or as close as she could get anyways ) the girl remained the rudest person he had ever met. ---- and he’d met gally before. ‘ yeah , yeah , i know. ‘ a mumbled response , dismissive concern , frozen body quickly unfrozen as he kneels besides her redden body , attentive hues examining the DAMAGE that even though not inflicted by his hands was still his to claim somehow. ‘ we don’t have much time -- i’m gonna take a wild guess here and say you can’t move ... ? ’
if karma doesn’t hit you, I gladly will.
