Hi. Iām Ivaan Komal. I work as a joy (nurse), educator, and breeder at Green AraƱa Research Center, an independent research facility located in Cortondo that dedicates itself to studying and education about pokemon. Weāre very underfunded right now, and my manager wanted me to make a social media account for our center as she thinks it could help with funding. So. Here we are. This blog is mostly run by me, but I will be posting about the daily activities that go on here, not much about me. Still, a bit about me: He/him, 47 years old, From Lental, Iāve been a breeder for about 8 years and have been working here for 2.
My team consists of a female Blissey named Nursey, a female blissey-crossed Audino named Softcore Communist Propaganda (Rosy Red or just Rosy for short), a female Indeedee named Half-Eaten Vanilla Yogurt Cup (Vanilla for short), a female Alomomola named Loving Heart Medication, and a Ditto named Rated R. Rated R is not even my pokemon. It just fell out of a jet airplane one day, and now it WON'T LEAVE!!!
About the Facility
Our facility is run by a woman named Professor AraƱa. It was made around 30 years ago and was originally a place where she could study bug types, but it has expanded since then. Used to be a lot more active than it is now, but, due to lack of funds over the years, we donāt have as many people as we should have working here, and a lot of our biomes are empty. Just ignore those and focus on what we do have if you visit, k thanks. Still, we do have people who still chose to stick around and people who decided to work here for some reason (though, I canāt judge. I have no plans to quit).
Despite technically being a research center, our layout is closer to a zoo. Pokemon are divided by habitats and are cared for by type specialists. The exhibits we have are: Highlands, aviary, insectarium, caves, temporal forest, gardens, aquarium(s) + arctic, highlands, grasslands, and rockies. Thereās also gardens but we donāt count that as an exhibit since itās mostly there to show off plants. Grass types just like going there. Unless deemed dangerous to the public (like our cranky old Noivern named Toothless), many of our pokemon are free ranged and. You can enter their enclosures (with supervision) Don't be alarmed if an Eldegoss floats your way.
Also, if you're disabled: our facility uses ramps because our founder is disabled and because stairs are evil. Places are wide enough for disability aids, thereās brail, weāre all forced to learn at least three languages + Unovan and Paldean sign language, all that stuff. Under the cut is the workers we have here
(//go to bottom for rules)
Workers
They tend to be scattered about here since a lot of them have to take on the jobs of multiple people. Iād suggest going to the front desk if you want to request help or see a specific person (if heās not there, press the buzzer). While Iām the main one who runs this blog, they sometimes come here. You can ask them specific questions if you want.
Charlotte AraƱa (she/her): Call her Professor AraƱa, Founder, Boss, Entomologist, Somehow has not lost all her shit in the past 30 years, her wheelchair sometimes grows spider legs bcuz our steel and electric type specialists are batshit insane so don't be alarmed when that happens
Allison StƤhlern (she/her): Steel type specialist, Archeologist, Educator, I think sheās on the run from a government but it's not the Paldean one so it's fine
Briony Mahelona (she/her): Aquarist, 18 year old new hire so be nice to her, Don't let her talk your ear off
Fiara Rougue (she/her): Fire type specialist, Honorary Cook, Honorary biome designer, Another reason our facility doesn't look like shit, Her name is pronounced āFEE-AR-UHā and she'll get pissy if you all her anything but
Galileo āLeoā Shinrin (he/him): Field researcher, New hire so be patient with him, He's a bit hard to read but I like him
Hermione F. Tylwyth (she/her): Fairy type/psychic type specialist, I think she's part fairy but I'm too scared to ask, Plays music and it's good enough to make even me feel something
Ivaan Komal (me, he/him): Nurse, Educator, Breeder, I donāt often come out of the nurse room or nursery unless Iām called to, you probably wonāt see me if you come her
Kanut Siku (he/him): Ice type specialist, Always wearing a super fancy and expensive robe despite the fact that he works at a facility and it'll get dirty, I've never seen it get dirty, idk how he does it, Pretty sure he got banished from Galar for reasons he wonāt tell us but heās sensitive about it so donāt bring it up
Kiyomi Obake (she/her): Ghost type specialist, Still learning Paldean and Galarian + she is autistic so please be patient with her, I thought she was a Zoroark when I first saw her
Lanaria dos Santos (she/her): Botanist + grass type specialist, Usually found in the gardens, She gave me a potted plant once so I fw her
Marisol Dorada (she/her): Education director, Operations manager, Development director, Head of public affairs, Finance director, Marketing manager, My manager, Basically all the boring paper stuff that people donāt think of when they think of biologists, She's banned me from naming the pokemon here, Insists on drinking coffee despite her anxiety already being through the roof
Layla Khalaf (she/her): Front desk, Receptionist / gift shop manager, Normal type specialist, Unofficial errand girl, Kinda pathetic looking, be nice to the kid, she's very busy
Maverick West (he/him): Rock type/Ground type specialist, Archeologist, Educator, Biome designer, He's lived here for like 10 years, idk why he still has a Unovan accent
Netasha Rochelle (she/they): Bug type specialist, She only got this job bcuz Prof. AraƱa is her grandma, My proof is that she's 17 and you have to be 18 to work here, it's fine though bcuz she's good at her job, Often found in the insectarium
Ngozi Adichie (she/her): She doesn't even work here, She's a 16 year old student, She volunteers here a lot though so I'm including her, She's super quiet but she takes photos for her photography class so the free publicity is nice, Usually I find kids annoying but she likes the baby pokemon and doesnāt get in the way when she helps me so sheās fine
ArrowQuill āQuillā Fagan (any pronouns): Field researcher, Sometimes an educator, Runs around a lot and idk how they have all that energy or why they keep coming to bother me, Complains about having to use their wheelchair and doesn't see the correlation of how running around all day with only one leg is causing them to have to use their wheelchair more, they grew up with a Crown Tundra mother with a heavy accent and instead of having her accent they instead have both a Highlander Crowen accent, Motostoke accent, Western Galarian accdnt, no one knows what they're saying and their voice confuses me, and yhey have their own blog @quillpokebiology
Shiloh Blackburne (he/him): Dark type specialist, Archivist, Registrar, The one that tends to the cave biomes the most, He says weird stories and idk what to believe what is fake or what is real, I also think heās on the run from a government, but itās not the Paldean government so idc
Veleno Nera (he/him): Poison type specialist, Janitor, I found out that he can't eat pecha berries bcuz āthey make him sickā and I'm starting to wonder if he has become a poison type himself, His name is a direct translation of āpoisonā so please make sure to make fun of him for that, Like I think he was cursed from birth to deal with poison types
Voltaire āVoltā Irons (he/him): Electric type specialist, Scientist, Deals with technical stuff, Batshit insane and I want him to calm down, He stresses out Marisol a lot bcuz he doesn't listen to his own damn lab safety rules, Idk what his problem is, Begrudging Leo fanboy that has an annoying way of showing it
Yuhan L. Waya (she/her): Dragon tamer, Fighting Type specialist, Flying type specialist, Educator for people who want to start pokemon battling, We are all jealous of her perfect and amazing hair
Things to know / Rules
-This blog was made to roleplay my pokemon OCs for this one story idea called āGreen AraƱa Research Centerā, about an underfunded research center in the pokemon world and all the shit that it goes through. These OCs all have backstories and are all characters so you can ask me anything about them and I'll answer
-Ivaan is a 47 year old man and the mod of this blog is a teenage gender queer kid. Keep things like gore and sexual content out of here
-Ivaan is going to be standoffish and sometimes rude. The gag of this blog is āman who shouldn't be running a social media account now runs one for a bussiness.ā A lot of his opinions won't reflect mine. He is also an unreliable narrator and is very opinionated about everything
My coworker has an alpha tynamo and he's soo excited about it bcuz Elektross is his favorite pokemon and he wants to evolve him someday, but I truly want him to realize that alpha pokemon are twice the size of their non-alpha counterparts, and the idea of having a 13'10 ft long alpha Eelektross with the personality of a teething baby totodile is something that no one but him wants.
Why does the Eevee line have two embers that AREN'T poison type yet possess poison-ish abilities
Like Vaporeon can be hatched with acid armor and uhm Umbreon can produce poison from its rings.. that makes me wonder what else the eevee line is hiding from us
"Acid armor is just a move Vaporeon is able to learn for defense purposes. There's a lot of pokemon that learn moves that don't match their type, so researchers aren't too concerned about that.
We still aren't exactly sure why Umbreon is like that. The biggest theory right now is that it used to be a poison type but over time they dropped the typing due to a lack of use for it. Still, they retain some of the typing's traits, like the small amount of poison that can come from its paws."
First off, Eevee's genetic data is unstable, this is well known, BUT what makes this subject interesting is that only SOME Umbreon have the gene for venom secretion! At Aether we've noticed that Sinnohan, Kantonian, and some Jotohian Umbreon have the gene active. There is another set of genes that actively suppresses the secretion, however and it just so happens to be the dominant, albeit more rare gene. When it comes to breeding, however, people have found the lack of venom more suitable and safe for their needs, so much so that it's bled in to the wild population of eevee and is actively suppressing said venom secretion gene. I dont know the exact odds of the gene being present in any given populace, sadly, but we've had the secretion gene pop up here in Alola recently, so I assume SOMEONE released an Umbreon, or their Eevee just got out and did what an Eevee does. I hope this answers some stuff for you!
"I think people tend to underestimate the amount of water types that can be found in a given region. Like, when we think of what water types can be found in a region, we usually just think, 'if it's not in the pokedex, then it's not found in the region.' And listen, I love pokedexes as much as the next person, even the rotom ones in Alola that everyone seems to have an unesecary problem with, but they never seem to take into account migratory habits.
Did you know that the Seel line can be found in Alola and Galar? During the winter months of the antarctics, the seel and dewgong living there migrate aalllll the way down to places like Galar and even Alola! They've been doing this for a while, too! Did you know that, in Alolan mythology and folklore, Primarina are said to be from a man that was given a half-human-half-pokemon child by a Dewgong? The story is called "The Man and th Sila Keʻokeʻo." Granted, they didn't really have a full understanding of what they were at the time since they only saw them once every year, and they tended to avoid beaches because of humans- but they were there! But sadly, because they only come once a year, the pokedex doesn't count them as being found in Alola :(."
Hey ya'll! Leaving my account to my coworker Kiyomi for a bit. She's a member of the Pearl Clan who traveled to Paldea to study Ghost Types and, since we don't have many remaining people from the Pearl Clan or Diamond Clan these days, we thought it would be cool to ask her questions about it! She's from the Pearl Clan so her primary knowledge is on that, but she does know some stuff about the Diamond Clan if you want to ask about that as well!

Kiyomi is a ghost-type specialist at Green AraƱa Research Center and a student at Naranja-Uva Academy. Originally, she was scheduled to be an apprentice, but the old specialist died like a week before she came to the center, so by the time she got there, she was their only ghost type trainer. Instead, she's trained by the archivist/dark type specialist, Shiloh Blackburne, since he has some ghost types of his own.
Kiyomi was born on a Pearl Clan reservation in Sinnoh. Her town was by the sea and, though she doesn't look like it, she's also good with water types since she did a lot of fishing. She's very shy and has trouble speaking due to still learning Galarian / Paldean, so she often has to have people like Leo translate for her, but she's getting there.
(Also here's her outfit analysis bcuz it has some Pearl Clan headcanons)
Random Facts about her below cut
She is autistic, which is one other reason she had trouble speaking and understanding others
All of her hair is white. She uses eyeliner and makeup so people can see her eyelashes and eyebrows
Her favorite food is sito
A lot of people mistake her for a Hisuian Zoroark disguised as a human, made worse by the fact that she rarely speaks.
Her birthday is October 13
She's bisexual bcuz, you guessed it! No one in my stories is allowed to be straight
She has very light steps and it freaks people out a lot due to how well she sneaks up on others (not purposefully)
Hey, mudbray foal care ask-er here: the trail cam that was set up shows him using his little mouth to do that... (also no he's only 3 weeks old)
Huh. Alright then.
If he's 3 weeks old, you should continue nursing him milk. You should feed him milk for a couple more months before weaning him off and introducing him to mud.
No one told me that Audino will try and touch your heart with their feelers as a way to show affection. It's very cute. And because some kid asked: no. Audino do not only do that when you are pregnant.
So, to the five year old cis boy who asked because his family's new audino kept touching his heart no: you are definitely not pregnant.
Volt is the electric type specialist / electrobiologist at Green AraƱa Research Center. Volt spends most of his time in the shared lab, working on various experiments and fixing items that people bring him. He's incredibly smart when it comes to mathematics and mechanical work, and his abilities make him quite arrogant, but he'll still happily explain concepts to those interested. Still, he's very energetic and scatterbrained and he's always jumping from one thing to another.
My voice claim for him is Matt Smith.
Link to his complete (unevolved) team
Random facts about him below cut :)
He was born in Motostoke
He is arrogant as hell he really likes compliments because he's not used to getting any, especially about his intelligence
He has ADHD and dyslexia. He struggled a lot in school, but he was great in math and science classes
His favorite pokemon is Eelektross and his shirt depicts an eelektross mouth
He has two brothers. He doesn't have a good relationship with any of them
His natural hair color is black but he dies it blonde
He is gay because, as stated before, no one in my stories are allowed to be heterosexual
His birthday is June 17
His diet consists of microwave noodles and energy drinks. His doctors probably hate him
Question: what's a good way to help feed a mudbray foal that had cleft pallet surgery? He got rejected by his mother and he's now in my care since my grandparents who i live with have an old rapidash/ponyta paddock (also, he's figured out how to unlock the house door and sneak into my room to sleep next to bed.... help?)
I'm going to assume that he's still weaning. You should bottle feed him if his mother rejected him in the weaning stage. If he's not in the weaning stage and is having trouble eating, you could still bottle feed him mud to get him used to the feeling again. Or you could try feeding him softer mud with less chunks in it if it's painful for him to eat.
I have no idea how he managed to learn that, especially since they have hooves. But, I think he sees you as his mom now. As someone who currently has way too many baby pokemon who view me as their mom, good luck with that. Motherhood is a tiring job
Everyday, Quill tells me about the adventures she has a field researcher and how cool they are and how amazing it is that they get to see different pokemon and study them everyday. And everyday, I have to remind them of that time they got high after accidently inhaling the gas from a Breloom that got burned from a scovillain, and we had to chase them down with a net to capture them.
In general? Yes. They're good at caring for eggs and sensing when somethingbis wrong with a persob biologically by using their feelers. The inspiration for stethoscopes came from their ears and how good they were at detecting heartbeat and breathing rate and all that.
Personally? No, not really. I bred starter pokemon / pokemon meant to be given to beginner trainers before I became a breeder at Green AraƱa. Though, breeder is now a loose term. My job here is more of a nanny instead of a breeder now... It's fine though. The pokemon can be cute sometimes when they're not peeing everywhere or eating everything.
