So I have run into a financial bind. Here are all of the things that have taken place from July 22th to now
My refrigerator stopped working (due to the fan needing to be fixed) resulting in 200 dollars worth of food that I purchased with EBT had to be thrown out and a maintenance man had to be paid. I wasn't too stressed at that time because I didn't anticipate my son being back in my home til August 6th, after my EBT benefits would be renewed for the new month. And my girlfriend and I were fine with starving (more or less) a bit til then.
On July 26th my son's father requested I pick our son up from his court mandated time early because his father said "I just can't trust him in my home"
My girlfriend had to go on a personal leave from her job to be home with my son since school in our county won't start til September 8th and possibly later. And our jobs couldn't accommodate alternating schedules. Mine pays more than hers.
Upon picking up my son I had to buy around $100 dollars worth of groceries as my fridge and pantry were pretty bare.
Also upon picking my son I find that the brand new clothes I had just bought him and sent him off to his dad's with (because he went through a growth spurt) were not all in his belongings. When I asked his dad about it his dad refused to help and claimed everything was packed with our son. So I had to spend about $50 dollars (and shipping) to order my son some new summer clothes and PJs.
After my son was back in my care he and well as his father informed me of some emotional abuse that was done to my son while in his father's care. Including being forced to sit in his room for three days straight (might be longer as my son's story is slightly different)
Upon finding this out and telling his father I disagreed and found the treatment inappropriate his father combated me. He accused me of going against our court ordered plan by "telling him how it should be in his household" so at that point I had no other options but to file a CPS report and obtaining modification of custody paperwork from court (cost was $60 dollars to receive it) (I have 70/30 custody at the moment)
I filed my paperwork and was all ready to go and then my wallet was stolen. Luckily my girlfriend had my debit card and EBT card but my ID and some other cards were in it. Those who may not know to file custody papers you have to have a notary witness you sign the papers and sign them themselves and they could not do that for me without an ID.
The DMV only had appointments in October due to being so backed up due to COVID. But after I came to the door of the DMV and begged them to help me and explained my situation they got me an appointment to get my ID (cost $7.50)
The notary services were $20. It also cost me $85 to file my paperwork. And I also had to pay an additional $25 dollars (money order only??? Which was taxed) to pay to serve my son's father as he lives in another county.
And then as we pulled up to our house today after all of that was done my girlfriend's truck (our only vehicle) was leaking gas. Our gas tank needs replaced.
I currently have $245 in my checking account. I get paid again August 21st and I already know the amount will be $735 gross pay (before taxes)
I fell behind on my rent last month from my son coming home so my first check of August had to be used to help finish paying the rent of July.
Groceries aren't an issue for me luckily because my EBT did renew on August 2nd.
For the month of August I have to pay
$85 for phone bill (very important for the parenting part)
And I do not know how much we will need to fix our vehicle.
I haven't bought myself anything personal I've been gifted things (and I'm grateful).
Now however I am not the one who matters. My household and ability to get to and from work is what's important.
