i do not “delete sentences” when they start “hindering the plot” i COPY PASTE THEM into a SEPARATE DOC made just for keeping all my USELESS LINES that i will also NEVER USE so therefore i should JUST DELETE THEM but i DONT because id FEEL BAD if i did
You don't actually have to kill your darlings. You can just put them in the oubliette #myoubliette
To be honest this is actually kinda good advice. Sometimes i will do this too if im trying to find a better way to say something ill copy paste the paragraph im working on till the end of the document so i can refer to it as i go and ensure i havent lost the central meaning i was trying to communicate in that moment. Sometimes ill reshape that moment and add back in the original idea for that moment later. So i end up with these documents where theres a lovely fanfiction then a bunch of ragged rough random snippets at the end im so fond of.
I often move the bit I’m removing into a comment on the word before where the bit I removed was. That way it’s still easily accessible when editing. Sometimes those comments get reworked and added back in, sometimes they get deleted, but it’s very helpful to be able take out a sentence I’m unsure about without worrying about whether I maybe shouldn’t have done that.
