My thoughts when my patient asks me if they can take a shower

When your pt asks you if they can shower... 1. I just gave you a bed bath and... HELL no you can't shower. You haven't been out of bed in 15 days. Youre still on a ventilator. And you've got IVs and an A-line AND other cables to the monitor. You haven't even tried to get out of bed into a chair before. You can't even Raise your arm to brush your teeth. There isn't enough strength there. What makes you think I can detach ALLLL these wires. Your Foley. And the ventilator and help your booty out of bed without your legs giving out? That's right. It ain't happening. 2. What I actually told him: you're on the ventilator and youre hooked up to a bunch of things. You aren't steady on your feet. We're going to wait a long while before you can shower.
