hi this drives me crazy
canon is what happens in the text. e.g. merlin tries to poison morgana
a headcanon is a fact that you have personally made up as an elaboration of canon. it is your invention. e.g. i think morgana and gwen had a teenage lesbian situationship before the events of canon. or, i think modern morgana would love evanesence.
an interpretation is how one reads the existing text. it is not an invented fact nor is it a headcanon, it is a reading. e.g. i think merlin tries to poison morgana out of misplaced self-hatred. or, i think that one line was delivered with suppressed malice and shows a nuanced relationship.
fanon is the general fandom’s accepted headcanons and interpretations that elaborate or recontextualize canon. e.g. merlin is a badass waif and morgana is a bitch.
these are all different words with different meanings.
and a cannon is a large mounted gun, usually on wheels, that uses explosives to fire projectiles.
i made a post like this before but I can't find it now. so. I'll just redo it.
What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?
It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.
My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict 😂
Just off the top of your head, don't need to try and look it up to check out anything:
Can you name a web search engine that you used before Google?
Yes
No
Don't know/just want to see the results
The book I'm reading suggests that Google became so market dominant that most people couldn't name a search engine that came before it, so I'm curious.
do u think omegaverse acknowledges covid-19 and the generation of people who permanently lost their sense of smell like how are they all scenting each other now is the omegaverse economy in shambles
actually pheromone sensing works differently from normal olfaction, since humans in our world don’t have a functioning vomeronasal organ (VNO), we don’t have any data on how covid-19 would affect a functioning VNO in omegaverse AUs
Actually there is evidence that covid probably would affect the VNO and it stands to reason would accordingly impair its function. Briefly:
SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes covid, can only infect cells expressing a certain protein called ACE2
ACE2 is expressed widely in nasal cavity epithelial cells but not in olfactory sensory neurons.
Seo et al. (2021) studied potential nasal targets for SARS-CoV-2 using golden hamsters as a model organism (commonly used as a proxy for humans in virology studies)
They found ACE2 expression in the main olfactory bulb epithelium (MOE, your “normal” nose organ) as well as the vomeronasal organ (VNO)
Several cell types in the VNO were able to be infected and they also found significant inflammatory activity (macrophage activation, apoptotic cells, etc)
The specifics of how covid actually causes dysosmia are not known for sure but epithelial damage by local inflammatory immune responses likely plays a role, especially because sensory neurons themselves are not affected (Bilinska, & Butowt, 2020). Therefore I would suggest a potential similar effect of VNO dysfunction as we see in the main olfactory bulb
From Seo et al.: “Considering the function of the VNO, infection and subsequent pathologic changes may affect the behavior of Syrian hamsters”
If it stands to reason that omegaverse individuals have functioning VNOs similar to members of the animal kingdom, then it is more than reasonable to conclude that covid may cause them to lose not only their main olfactory function, but also their VNO function as well

In conclusion the omegaverse economy IS in shambles.
OP this is very well-written but im still hung up on how you came onstage dressed as a clown only to tear off the costume and reveal yourself as a biologist
Rabbits Fly Among Dragons
11x14 inches, colored pencil
sold in the BLFC’25 art show
[ID from Alt: A colored pencil drawing of three pink rabbits with white wings flying through the air alongside several small white dragons with noodle-like proportions, and a long white dragon so large that only part of its body is visible. The sky is blue and pink, with a large, faint rainbow stretching across the background. Soft clouds are visible at the bottom of the frame. End ID]

Lost in the trans and military discourse is the well-documented fact that overconsumption of alcohol lowers testosterone. I guess Hegseth got tested, was told something he didn't like to hear, and now everyone has to suffer.
The War Rugs of Afghanistan
They are very cool, but there needs to be a word of caution - the vast majority of 'war rugs' are made for tourists, and more commonly reflect what the average Western buyer *wants* to see, than the sentiments of the makers on the ground. When one searches for a particular theme, one quickly often finds several duplicates of what is a basic design template that is dictated by a middleman. It is also questionable what percentage of the funds actually reach the makers, as these rugs pass through many hands before they find their way to a buyer outside of the region.
Pictured - a current example available on Etsy, the seller is in Pakistan.
Compared with another, on a different online store that appears to be based in Australia:
It's clear that they have the same 'template', possibly the same maker, and almost certainly the same middleman. The one that reached Australia is three times the price.
Other examples currently for sale or recently sold on different online stores - the average Afghan is not English literate.
It's a complex issue - the themes seem too dramatically satisfying to be true, and the buyer gets to tell themselves that they're helping an impoverished Afghan woman unable to earn an income outside the house due to the Taliban, but there are bigger questions on how much of the purchase of the rug goes back into supporting the same systems that keep them confined (potentially including child labour), and commodifying hardship.
A painting of a nightmare I had recently.
In the dream, my partner and I were following the narrow paths in a dirty hallway with deep pools of water. In the deep water were the bodies of horses, bones and remaining flesh bleached white. We could hear a distant scream behind us that was slowly growing closer.
Getting plowed is for the country folk. Here in the city we call it being taken to pound town. And if it's a place with decent public transit, getting railed.
they're looking at the bad guy who came to the village to fool everyone again
I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.
