Hello!

So after not using this app for around 8 years I was both surprised and fascinated to find out that it still exists.

After doing thorough research (watching a bunch of @strange-aeons videos) I was even more intrigued and decided to make a new blog. And honestly? I was very pleasantly surprised.

There aren’t a lot of people around anymore, but that honestly adds to the charm so much. I just think it’s like a lot calmer and far less stressful than other social media platforms and I’ve really been enjoying that.

So I think I will post some mood-boards, some fanfic recommendations and also just reblog whatever strikes my fancy.

When reading fanfic keep in mind that for professional literature: 

Short story: under 7,500

Novelette: between 7,500 and 17,500

Novella: between 17,500 and 40,000

Novel: over 40,000

Fics over 40k are literally a novel written and shared for free.  If you have written a 40k+ fic, you have literally written a novel.

Please stop posting on AO3 with “I need help finding this fic…” works. I’m seeing this a worrying amount and I fear that it’s due to a very modernized social media view of how AO3 works. Archive of Our Own is an ARCHIVE, not a search engine. You can go on Tumblr, Instagram, TikTok, etc for help finding a fic, but AO3 is intended specifically for fanfiction and fanfiction ONLY. Not only is it against policy, but it is also frustrating to people searching through tags only to find several slots filled with fic searches.

I’m noticing an increase in new fic writers on AO3 who…uh…mayy not know how to format their fics correctly..so here is a quick and VERY important tip

Using a random fic of mine as example..

The left example: ✅✅✅

The right example: ❌❌❌

Idk how many times I’ve read a good fic summary and been so excited to read before clicking on it and being met with an ugly wall of text. When I see a huge text brick with zero full line breaks my eyes blur and I just siiiigh bc either I click out immediately or I grin and bear it…it’s insufferable!

If a new character speaks, you need a line break. If you notice a paragraph is becoming too large, go ahead and make a line break and/or maybe reconfigure the paragraph to flow better. I’m not a pro writer or even a huge fic writer but…please…ty…

This is a good thing to keep in mind! It is often and unfortunate that a really good fic doesn’t get love because its formatting makes it too difficult to read!

i’ve seen people say that books look like that though, which might be true, but reading a block of text on a piece of paper is different and a different kind of eye strain that reading the same text on a screen. Especially since AO3 formats based on the screen you read on.

legibility is incredibly important in work, both written and in art or comics. Did you ever notice that comics with extremely text rich speech bubbles are harder to read too?

You know what cracks me up about Shax' "You don't seem his type at all"?

I know she's just saying it to rile Aziraphale up, but it's so so so funny. Because unless she knew Crowley pre-fall, all anyone could know is that Crowley came to Earth and immediately hyperfixated on Aziraphale.

The only thing anyone, including Shax, can possibly know about Crowley's type, is that it's literally just Aziraphale.
