If you are anything like me and were super excited for Jennifer Ehle playing Gabrielle only to be super disappointed by the writing, I have two recs (both in a horror/thriller setting) that kind of give a taste of what we could of had with her as Gabi.
1.) Dead Ringers 2023 miniseries
A gender swapped remake of the Cronenberg film of the same name. It has not one but two Rachel Weiszs!!! All of the writers were women! And they were not all white! Really well done show about identity, codependency, motherhood, birth among other things. Jennifer plays a lesbian capitalist and is deliciously cold at times and is just overall great in it! (See what happens when we give her good material) (must say it does get pretty bloody/gory so check tws if that bothers you)
A horror film written and directed by Rose Glass. In it we follow Maud a recent Catholic convert who is the new caretaker for Jen's character who is a former dancer who is very ill and living a hedonistic life before she dies. Jen is also gay again in this! This movie has everything- guilt/ shame about sexuality through the lens of Catholicism, a younger woman psychosexual obsessed with an older woman (Maud and Jen's character) , martyrdom, visions, etc. This movie has so many things I love I would be crazy about it no matter who was in it but Jen being one of the catalysts of Maud's psychosexual religious obsession/visions is just the extra cherry on top. Jen is also great in this. There is a scene where she publicly humiliates Maud at a party and she is so good in it and it makes me crazy.
