I really wish only some of TVL was bad and not all of it. Every show has a bad season, and usually it's just poor writing decisions that border on bad fanfiction or issues with a ship dynamic, whether that be a breakup or two people getting together that have no chemistry. Never have I ever seen a progressive show do a bellyflop right into bigotry.
TVL managed to color the entire narrative with bigotry to the point it makes it unwatchable. You can't even sit through it just to watch your favorite moments of your favorite ships (not that there were many) without feeling sick by the end of it.
Today I clicked on a clip of the bar scene in episode 6 to see Louis drink Lestat's blood mixed in his beer, and it begins with Lestat bringing up every time Louis has ever blamed him for something, in a way that says "You victim-blamed me about my mother, and this is just another grudge I'm going to hold against you, like all the others I have just listed and never forgiven you for. Because no matter what happens in your life, I will forever be the victim." How romantic... /sar
TVL is so out of touch, so tone deaf, that it's managed to completely ostracize its original queer and poc audience. We fell in love with IWTV because it spoke up about our experiences and didn't belittle us for being angry about the prejudiced attitudes inherent in our society. It offered us empowerment, and vampires that had a voice and stood up for their very identities and what they believed in.
A narrative that once lifted us up was rewritten to make us the butt of a conservative joke, like we're the problem in a world where bigoted screenwriters feel comfortable enough to rewrite a queer series to spread their hateful rhetoric. The irony is hard to miss.
Every day I mourn IWTV. And every day TVL strays further from my mind. I refuse to acknowledge it as canon. Not after what they've done to it. We're all better off reading the book and making that canon than accepting the slop they tried to forcefeed us. They will not win.

"Don't cry, Dybbuk," declared Benjamin, grabbing a giant thin slab of ice with both hands. "We'll get you out, don't cry, you're ours now. We have you."

The fight in question
Crazy how they've deliberately made this season so impossible to like for people who care about women, Black people, Brown people, or victims of domestic abuse in general.
i'm ready for louis & armand to enter their cheater arc together. armand cheating on daniel whom he cheated on louis with. what was that post about armand betrayal maxing? he should do it again
i genuinely regularly tear up about armand trying to warm daniel's locket in his hands before giving it to him in the devil's minion chapter. like you're fucking kidding. daniel is so unbelievably precious to armand. but it's not just that this one small gesture speaks to so much thoughtfulness and care and adoration, it's also that it's so revealing when it comes to the role vampirism plays in their relationship.
to armand, vampirism impedes his ability to care for daniel; he wants nothing more than to be more human for him. armand wants to perform this small kindness for his boy, but it's rendered ineffective by his lack of body heat. meanwhile, the gesture clearly still meant something to daniel if it stuck in his mind all those years and he thought it worth mentioning to lestat for his book. armand trying to warm the locket mattered because armand—who has also only ever been treated extremely callously himself—loved him enough to think to do it, not because it actually made a physical difference.
armand might see his own inhumanity as a barrier to loving daniel the way he thinks daniel deserves, but daniel has never seen it that way. daniel has never wanted armand to be more human, he's only ever wanted armand to love him.
