the best way to enjoy TVL is to not have read the books and also to not have watched IWTV on amc in fact maybe it’s best if you’ve never watched a tv show before and probably you shouldn’t be familiar with vampires and maybe just don’t think or think so hard that you create a different tv show in your head no wait actually just wait for next season it’ll make sense then hope that helps
It's both disgusting and ironic that some white fans of TVL are saying black fans lack media literacy for not enjoying the show especially since some white fans are too ignorant to even notice the racism that's blatantly present.

like now that we're talking language, the french in tvl was horrendous fuck!! even more than in the first 2 seasons (apart from assad's and roxane's obv). granted it's french so it's not that bad but you would think that a series with budget would make sure that its grammar is not awkward af...
Look… before TVL dropped I had a lot of hope after the Rolin trailer dropped and that article where he compared Lestat to Walter white… now after TVL it tells me he watched breaking bad and thought Walter was a bad ass and Skyler abused him and Jesse manipulated Walt… and Walt Jr is a bitch for calling the cops on him

The way it’s been like three weeks since the finale aired, and all I have for this show still is vitriol.
Also like. Among my friend/fandom circles…the way we aren’t moving at all about this season now that it’s over. Nobody moving. Nobody flooding the chats with headcanons or predictions or new fics and art. Because it was so bad and so definitive in its answers to questions of accountability or any modicum of character growth, there’s nothing to analyze, nothing to be excited about for future seasons — with the exception of Akasha, which I’m now totally unconvinced will be handled with nuance.
I have looped back around to feeling utterly betrayed. I just cannot believe we waited two years for this. Completely abandoned post-season 2 promo at Comic Con in 2024…for this.
I have been told that my lack of enjoyment for TVL is a skill issue. I refuse to believe that at this point. I know when a series has low points/weaker seasons without losing its core. I can pinpoint these moments are in my favorite media. This is just. A totally different fucking show, dude. One that hates its protagonists of color — there is no other interpretation of what we witnessed and to deny it is to gleefully practice willful ignorance — and frankly doesn’t even like its main character that much.
Not to be parasocial but I truly can’t believe the actors were fully onboard with what they had to make this season. I just can’t. As we’ve said time and time again, a tonal departure is one thing; a POV shift is one thing. A loveless DARVO campaign with music in between is entirely another. When they literally didn’t have to do all that. The writers CHOSE to make it this way.
I wish it wasn’t that serious for me, but it was painful to watch a lot of this season. Not in a compelling way. I just felt genuinely fucking hurt. And embarrassed.
Is anyone else still feeling like this almost a month later? I’ve been disappointed in many shows before. But I think it would’ve hurt less if the previous two seasons were of lesser quality.
Just saw somebody deadass say the racism of season 3 is the point. This fandom is a fucking prison
it's been interesting to watch fans of the season grapple with problems they can clearly see but which they still feel the need to defend. at first we were simply imagining these issues, but when those issues became undeniable these fans just switched tactics. the music's bad? it's supposed to be. there's rank misogyny underpinning the whole thing? it's meant to be misogynistic. racism? oh that's there on purpose, actually. poor quality dialogue? it's a deliberate choice! plot holes? exposition dumps? lack of character development? lack of chemistry? pacing issues? cheap wigs? redundant narration? choppy and confusing editing? bad lighting? these are creative decisions that you're all too stupid to truly Get

saw a couple tvl fans say that the season would not appeal to people who "obsessively rewatched the past seasons" and needs to "be viewed casually"
from meeting lestat for the first time all the way to killing him, louis goes through what feels like a lifetime of character development in the first seven episodes. why does lestat in tvl have a one note character arc of grappling with his mother's abuse of him? why does it take seven whole episodes to do it, all the while he hasn't meaningfully changed/developed in any other way?
So, Lestat gets to be held and comforted over his properly fleshed-out abuse without it becoming a seasons-long punchline or tool to advance someone else. That's nice.
I don't know if it will change in the next seasons, but the IWTV show biggest sin to me is the way Lesmand relationship was reduced to Armand being obsessed with Lestat to the point of looking pathetic and Lestat despising him and humiliating him at any given opportunity.
Their dynamic is much more complex in the books. There is hate, sure, but there is love too. Armand envies and admires Lestat at the same level, he can't decide if he wants to kill him for good or be around him forever. He hurt people Lestat loved and Lestat himself in the past, but he also plays the role of a guardian angel. He worries about Lestat's dangerous adventures and sometimes gives him good advice. As for Lestat, he doesn't really understand Armand or trusts him, but he can't help liking him and being amazed by Armand's beauty, intelligence, power and manners every single time he sees him. Lestat can't decide if Armand is divine, diabolical or both. Sometimes he wants to kill him, and sometimes he wants to protect him from others (i.e. Akasha).
If I could summarize Lesmand, they are like brothers who fight all the time but always make peace in the end. Both think they're the sage older brother and the other is the annoying younger brother, which is honestly hilarious
it's crazy how tvl was a 7 episode season, just like iwtv. and yet, do you remember the sheer number things that happen in iwtv s1? hell just the pilot episode? the behemoth of a journey louis goes on and all the events that happen closely stacked to one other but none of it feels rushed ? comparing s1 and s3 side by side on what they do with their given 7 episodes makes the lack of substance in s3 starkly visible imo
Armand & Arun
armand was degraded by every character even vaguely in his orbit, had his relationships reduced to being nothing more than sex, all while the writers failed to afford him any sort of interiority in regards to his own history as a former sex slave and grooming victim, and i don't know if there's any coming back from that.
