It is most difficult,
I must admit,
to spin a yarn
(and not to quit)
not to throw this board away,
sail it through air
groan in disarray.
As frustration mounts,
and night grows dark
I hum and haw,
my outlook stark
for
All I want to say
is lost,
thanks to cats,
and tails so cross’d.

In her optimism, she’d thought nihilism would be a phase. That’s what she taught her freshmen. And yet, here she was, millennia later, and, if anything, it had predictably worsened with every passing age and crumbling civilization. And boy band. Boy bands were both the best and the worst.
This is why Cassandra was wholly unprepared for the stirrings of… well, of Something… that roused in a long dormant part of her the night she first saw Silver, seeming to dance with the Moon.
Her heart had paused a moment and cocked its head a little too interestedly and Cassie had known.
“Not everlasting, after all,” she’d murmured, even as her feet crept cautiously forward, hoping she wouldn’t notice and stop them.

The first light of day or the last
I imagine I know what you’d look like, Gilded curves, Softness softened by the caress of the sun Kissing the horizon, Sweetly. I imagine I’d be too stunned to move, Breathless at your beauty, The way your blinks would slow And time would almost freeze, Begging me: Savor. Remember.
Prompt: the darkest hour
@kestrelwritesgriffin
Stars are meant to sparkle Moons are meant to shine Entropy devours all Given space And time
You are a prism of light Radiant Brilliant Hopeful
You radiate Joy It twinkles in your fringes.
I can’t I can’t Darken that.
But.
The dark is cold And lonely And. I miss your hand in mine.

" You're after Sarah, Dayton, " Ms Andrews voice echoed slightly in the silent hallway and all eyes swung toward the unfortunate Dayton. He froze, finger still wedged in the crack in the wall he'd been examining when called out.
"Sarah," she pointed to the girl with the braids, "who is behind Anthony," a boy with interesting shaved designs half grown out of his hair, "who is behind our leader, Jordan." Jordan straightened slightly, the small click of his shiny black heels loud in the still needs.
"Do you understand your place? Everyone else is ready to celebrate." Her smile didn't reach her eyes.
Dayton hung his head, unkempt hair flopping across his glasses as he shuffled his scuffed sneakers. He muttered an affirmative and moved, perhaps too quickly, to step to his assigned spot. His finger, however, had different ideas, refusing to leave the crack in the wall and jerking his entire body to a stop.
“Dayton.” Ms Andrews’ disapproval rang out as red crept across the boy’s half-hidden ears. “Can’t you even follow a simple direction?”
Dayton tugged again at his finger, stubbornly plugged into the hole, but failed to budge from his unassigned place.
“Dayton! Come now!” His face crumpled as Ms. Andrews stalked toward him and he shrank back against the wall, finger firmly ensconced. She grabbed the offending hand and tugged, hard, and Dayton cried out in pain.
“You must be joking. Get. To. Your. Place!” Each word was punctuated by a hard tug on his hand and a whimper from Dayton. Anthony cleared his throat and Sarah fidgeted with the end of her braids uncomfortably. “Stop holding on!” Ms Andrews face was red now, in anger, and her free hand crept up, ready to really pull when -
Jordan raised a hand. “Ms Andrews? Could I help Dayton?”
“What?” She seemed to notice the children all around, and her stranglehold on Dayton’s arm. “Oh. Yes. Yes, Jordan. Please. Such a help.” And she backed away quickly, breathing hard.
“Hey, Dayton,” Jordan whispered. “What’s going on?”
Dayton could only sniffle and shrug.
“Hey, we’ll get you out. Let’s try moving back to where you were and seeing if that helps, okay?”
Dayton nodded and wiped his nose with his free hand. Jordan guided him back to the wall, peering at the crack as he did so.
“Let’s try pushing. Can you push your finger back in, slowly? It might be like one of those Chinese finger trap things that pull tighter when you go fast. Do you remember how Mr. Green couldn’t figure it out and had to teach math with his fingers trapped?”
As Jordan whispered, he coaxed Dayton through the slow push-and-gentle-pull-back-out motion. Dayton’s finger slide free of the crack, no problem, and Jordan smiled at him and trotted back to the front of the line. Dayton sniffed, wiped his nose, and hid the finger in his pocket, shuffling to his place behind Sarah, resolutely staring straight ahead, ignoring him.
Ms. Andrews cleared her throat. “Now that we are finally in order, we can proceed to the auditorium for the celebration.” She swept up the hallway, past Dayton, and the line shuffled along behind her, silently.
Write two very different haikus that end in the same line.
Moonlight spills, silver
Reflection across stillness,
But every drop drunk.
Bitter draught, the tide
Of betrayal a poison,
But every drop drunk.
Native genocide Nothing says Thanksgiving like American pride
Holidays with queers And people of all races American pride.
Each floating island
A masterpiece, sugar spun.
I dreamed of Being.
Haiku: the dawning
of Yes I Can and I Will!
I dreamed of Being.
Kissing you is both Biting and achingly soft I dreamed of your lips
It’s hard to wake and Leave the only place we Are I dreamed of your lips.
Soft sweeping over,
Your lips etch their path along,
My skin trembling.
Cool rain slides across
panes traced with prints, the warmth of
My skin, trembling.
Prompt: Every drop drunk
I remember when You ran down my arms Like a fruit Over ripe and sweet Abundant and summer drenched.
And I reveled Sated and insatiable Fully Yours Fully alive Full.
I remember when We Were When we offered tumblers of our hearts A flight of fancy And Every drop Was Drunk.

I wasn’t playing
“I’ve decided I’d like to play though.” She pouted, her eyebrows knitting together.
It was hard to think about anything but her lips, red and tooth-dimpled as they were.
“What a compliant thing you are,” she purred, eyes smoldering from half closed lids. “I wonder what you imagine us playing. Hmm, pet?”
I swallowed hard as she traced a nail up my radial artery. It was hard to think.
“Words, love,” she breathed, “use your words. What.” And she kissed exposed skin. “Do.” Another kiss. “You.” A long slow lathe with tongue racing the same path her nail had moments before. “Imagine?”
The thing was. She’d called me compliant. . And pet. And while I was Hers (I slid my belt out of its loops in one smooth motion), she was Mine, also.
She couldn’t help the whimper that pressed from her lungs at the rasp of the belt, but she swallowed quickly and tried to regain the upper hand. “ Yours, love? Perhaps. And perhaps you need to make me.”
I just smiled and wrapped the belt around her wrists. Slowly.
She bit her lip and looked up through lashes as the leather wrapped, raising her wrists slightly, as if in offering.
“Do you want me, love?”
“Or shall I own you?” And she pushed her back before the leather finished tightening, flipping their positions and pressing her against the wall.
