Home Protection Steam Spell
There was some crime activity in my neighborhood, so I performed this to make me feel safe and protected. ❤️ (As a witchling, I am still new to spell writing, and am open to tips!)
Ingredients
⚔️ Cinnamon: I use three sticks and a tablespoon of ground cinnamon for extra scent. ⚔️ Rosemary: Three sprigs or two tablespoons of dried rosemary (pictured). ⚔️ Pine: Three sprigs from my backyard tree. ⚔️ Sigil: I drew @wolf-scent’s home protection sigil on a bay leaf and used the steam to activate. I dry and keep the leaf on my altar after. 🌿
Method
✨ Put water in a pot or pan and on the stove and turn heat on high.
✨Add ingredients one at a time, focusing on intent with each one.
✨Let mixture come to a boil and begin to steam. I add my leaf at this time.
✨Visualize the steam spreading throughout the house, bringing protection. Can be a bubble or anything else - personally, I visualized the army of the dead from the Lord of the Rings rushing out to stand guard. ;)
✨LOWER the heat (don’t want to waste energy) to simmer, and you can allow the scent to fill your house for however long you wish. Add water as needed to not let the ingredients touch bottom of pot.
✨ “I will have a restful and peaceful sleep” spell jar ✨
A little jar to ward off nightmares and help you have a good sleep with some lovely dreams
What you’ll need
✨ salt ✨ cinnamon (ground or sticks) ✨ black peppercorns (or ground black pepper) ✨ dried rosemary ✨ dried rose petals ✨ dried lavender ✨ small piece of amethyst ✨ small piece of rose quartz ✨ a sigil “I will have a restful and peaceful sleep”
-
What to do
✨ Layer the salt, cinnamon, black peppercorns, rosemary, rose petals and lavender in the jar ✨ Nestle your piece of amethyst and your piece of rose quartz snugly on top of or inside the lavender and rose petals ✨ Draw a sigil that means “I will have a restful and peaceful sleep” and put it at the top of your jar ✨ Put it next to your bed, preferably near your head
-
If you don’t feel confident in your own sigils, this is the one that I used:

Witch Tips
Witch tips from a witch who has practiced for many years; here are some of my traditional beliefs as well as things I picked up along the way. 💫
🔮 When foraging, do not forget to thank for what you took. Thanks the gods, the fae, the earth, or whomever you worship, but do not just take.
🌙 Wear beautiful clothes when performing a ritual. Before I get into saying anything else I want to say - There is NO PRICE VALUE which makes the ritual clothes beautiful. They do not have to be expensive, or a certain brand, or from a certain place, or anything of the sort. Just make sure that they are well taken care of and that you think they are beautiful.
🔮 People will rarely understand you, and most do not actually even want to. But the trees. The plants. Animals of the earth. Rivers, still and moving water. The stars and the moon. They understand, they will listen, and if you listen, too, you will hear what you need to and be validated and understood. People alive thousands of years before you have been sharing the same heartbreak, pain, suffering, and struggle with the universe. It understands. It has heard before, and will listen again.
🌙 When trying to meditate, you are not actually doing anything wrong by being unable to “clear your mind.” The goal is not actually to have a blank mind, but an open and receptive one. If a thought pops in suddenly, acknowledge it, dismiss it, and move on. It doesn’t mean you’re not focused or doing it wrong.
🔮 Another note about meditation; there is no shame in needing herbs to achieve meditation. There is nothing wrong with you. Some people just need the extra help, and that is okay! It is also a traditional part of many practices to smoke, ingest, or otherwise consume herbs before a ritual/meditation/journey/etc. This pertains to herbs such a kava, sage, wormwood, mugwort, and cannabis. (Do not use unless you ask a doctor, know it’s safe, and so on.)
🌙 Wisdom is the combination of emotion and logic. To make a wise decision, validate the emotion and why it is being felt, look at the logic and the facts, and combine the information for the answer.
🔮 Do not be discouraged that you cannot find witches (or Wiccans, Pagans, Druids, etc) where you live. We are here. We are all over the world. It is just unsafe in some places to practice openly. But if you look for us, you will find us.
🌙 Intent is the most powerful ingredient you have.
🔮 There are hundreds (if not thousands) or ways to create a sigil, and you can make a sigil hundreds of different ways. This also goes for charging and activating sigils.
🌙 You can practice both black and white magick at the same time.
🔮 Bullying other witches is never a good idea. Obviously, bullying anyone is never a good idea and you shouldn’t, but in my years I have seen over and over again it happen when one witch attacks another and then that witch comes down with horrible luck. That is not just because they were cursed by people who support the witch who was being bullied (which is also a huge risk, and causes a lot of issues and conflict) but the universe knows when a witch attacks another witch, and it doesn’t like that. (This does not include calling someone out in an appropriate way for unacceptable behavior and so on. But when you do it about differing opinions….)
🌙 Never stop researching. You will never know everything.
🔮 Deciding that you want to start to practicing witchcraft does NOT mean you have do denounce any previous beliefs.
How could you NOT fall in love with the glow of the moon and stars, the warmth of the sun, the ancient life within the trees, and the sweet melodies of the winds?

Steam Cleansing ♨
Since incense makes me sneeze, I’ve been resorting to a different method of cleansing lately - steam cleansing! It’s exactly what it sounds like, using steam to cleanse your space.
Ingredients:
A pot, to be used for boiling water
Essential oils of your choice (about 50 drops total)
Water
Instructions:
Add about 2 cups of water to your pot depending upon how large it is
Otherwise, just fill the pot about halfway with water
Add 50 drops of whichever essential oils you choose
Turn on your stove, and let the water boil
You should start to smell the essential oils throughout your house in very little time
When the water has almost completely evaporated, turn your stove off
Let the pot cool down and proceed to wash it as you would usually do with your dishes
The scent tends to linger all day, if not longer
Repeat as necessary :)
Essential oils for cleansing:
Anise
Camphor
Cedarwood
Citrus oils (bergamot, grapefruit, lemon, lemongrass, lime, orange, tangerine)
Dragon’s Blood
Hyssop
Lavender
Oregano
Peppermint
Pine
Rosemary
Sage
Sandalwood
Spearmint
Thyme
Some essential oils may cause respiratory irritation in both humans and animals, and many essential oils should not be used if pregnant or if you have other various medical problems. Please consult your physician if you have any questions about the use of essential oils.
Aromatherapy, Memory, & Magick
Basics of Energy Work - Part One
Expanding Awareness Energy work is a subtle art, a foundational building block to successful magic. Almost all magical practices involve some form of energy work - and there are countless forms - but how it will function from individual to individual will differ greatly. To put it simply, energy work is the practice of manipulating unseen energies. Everything - people, places, animals, inanimate objects, even our thoughts - vibrates at a specific energetic frequency and emits energy. By learning how to identify and tune into these energies, we can use them to direct our magic and spell work. Chances are, you have worked your own personal energy before. More often than not, your own energy will be the easiest for you to tap into. To do this, we need to learn how to expand our awareness. Meditation Meditation is a good practice to have when pursuing any kind of magical endeavor; there are many ways to meditate and there is much to achieve through it. The overall key to meditation is, generally, focus. You are training your mind to simply observe with non judgement; not to simply clear your mind of any thought at all, which is the common misconception. There is not just one way to meditate - if sitting cross legged in a room bathed with incense as you engage breathing exercises works for you, great! Some people meditate through dance, yoga, exercise, crafts, etc. Anything where your mind can drift, “tune out” so to speak, as your body instinctively goes through the motions. There are also several forms of guided meditations that you can use for specific goals, such as attentiveness, visualization, improving memory, empowerment, etc. Elemental meditation is popular among the witchcraft community. What’s great about guided meditation is it extremely accessible through apps and things like youtube (favorites of mine are the fire meditation and the water meditation from magickians!) and makes the whole process of learning to meditate a lot less intimidating. As meditation relates to energy work, it will sharpen your ability for visualization, increase your focus, have you more in touch with your physical and inner self as both the same and separate entities, and increase your awareness of changes in and around you - all of this working towards an enhanced ability to sense energy and its movement. What is this mystical “energy?” If you’re having trouble wrapping your head around the idea of the elusive and all encompassing vaguery of “energy”, don’t worry. The idea may seem intimidating, but they are not inaccessible. If you are struggling, it only indicates that you are human. This will take practice and it will require you to understand the concepts on a physical level. Luckily, these are steps that nearly every magical practitioner, old and new, has and will continue to work on for the rest of their spiritual journey. Every question you have has likely already been answered. Some may just take a bit of research to find! However, I’m going to try and provide at least some cursory information here. To get a real idea of what “energy” feels like, set aside some quiet time for youself. Close the door, dim the lights, turn off your phone. Light your candles and make sure you will be left alone. Sit down on the floor and make yourself comfortable - not too comfortable! You don’t want to fall asleep. Draw in some deep breaths and clear your mind, as you did in your meditation. Continue until you feel your breathing regulated and yourself relaxed. Now, close your eyes and rub your palms together, like you’re trying to warm them up, then pull them an inch or two apart. You should feel a charged sensation tingling between your hands, maybe even like a ball, vibrating and pulsating in your hands. If you concentrate, you may even be able to feel a sort of magnetic resistance if you attempt to push it back together. That’s energy. It’s really that simple. If you don’t feel it at first, just try again. The more you do this, the easier it will become to identify your own and different types of energy all around you through a technique called centering, which will be discussed below. Grounding The term grounding, sometimes called Earthing, means to recalibrate your energy. Essentially, the purpose of grounding is to shake off “excess” energy and ground yourself back in reality, into the rhythm of the plane on which we exist. And while grounding does restore balance and connectedness, there are greater implications to explore when it comes to grounding. Everything on this earth is shaped by forces and presence of the Earth and cosmos, and as such, “this connection is deeply inherent to a sustainable state of well being. The Earth, as an organic and inorganic system, is constantly bathing all life on the planet with its highly ordered and coherent electromagnetic field. The natural tendency of an organism is to couple with the Earth’s energy field and come to a mutual state of cooperation and harmony within its environment, finding its niche and proper place within a system. What we need to understand is that all systems strive to achieve, return to and/or maintain a state of coherence. Whether one is aware of it or not, we are always taking part in a constant process within our universe, coupling with other energy fields and finding some sort of balance within this space. This happens everywhere within the context of an ecosystem, whenever two forces interact for any reason. The more organized or coherent these fields are, the more effectively and efficiently energy can be [manipulated.]” Grounding allows us to cultivate a relationship with the earth and facilitate a healthier, more coherent state of being. It allows us to align our energy for more accurate working. Like meditation, there are many ways to ground; a list of some of my personal favorite methods can be found (here.) Shielding and Centering Shielding is important for magical workings as it provides a protective barrier to maintain our center. To do this, you’ll want to get a feel for your personal energy first. A good way to do is something called centering. Throughout the day, you naturally will pick up on all kinds of external energy; some good, some bad, most of it probably neither of the two - either way, it is energy that is not yours. Meditation and shadow work will be useful in identifying what feels distinctly you, but you should be able to know when you’re not feeling entirely you. If you’ve been feeling particularly out of sorts, a good tip to get back in touch with yourself before centering or shielding is to spend some time in self care. Turn off your phone and go to your room or a friendly space in nature, a library, a favorite haunt and engage in a creative project, put on your favorite music, eat your favorite food. Be mindful of your physical space, your body, sensations your are experiencing. Be attentive to you and only you; your wants, needs, feelings, comforts, etc. Take a bath and allow yourself to relax. Your only responsibility right now is you have no responsibilities - if even for just a short while. Just do what you can to access some “me time” to do something you love to do and observe yourself. Take note of what you choose to do that brings you joy, why those things make you feel happy and fulfilled, how exactly these feelings and activities resonate with you. Record this in your Book of Shadows, as it is useful information to getting to yourself on a more intimate level. Learn to recognize this energy and get familiar with what it means to feel yourself. It can be easy to get lost. Centering can get you back, especially when you make these feelings more accessible to yourself. To center, we’re going to go back to the exercise in the beginning; in a quiet place, meditate and rub your palms together - build up that energy between them again. When you pull your hands apart, you want to visualize this sensation. What color is it? What does it feel like? Is it light? Heavy? Is it vibrating? Focus on the pulsation and how it pushes against you. Allow it to move and grow. Picture it contracting and growing until you no longer can. Pull it in close to you, somewhere you can focus on it - many people use their solar plexus or heart chakras. This is the same energy you’re going to use to shield yourself. Instead of centering this energy, however, you’re going to push it out to envelope you. Visualization in your meditation and centering exercises should help with this; visualizing energy usually makes it easier for people to push it outward. Again, knowing what specifically makes this your protective energy will be useful - what color is it? Texture? Is it elemental? Perhaps your energy doesn’t feel like light, but water or air. Maybe white is a protective color to you or maybe green is, for Earth. Maybe your energy shield is a network of stars in the shape of your zodiac constellation. Maybe the outside is reflective, to reflect any negativity directed your way. Maybe its a shield of smoke, to conceal yourself. No matter what it looks like to you, just make sure it is yours. Don’t feel pressured to commit to something either - your idea of what these concepts look like will grow and change as much as you do. Push this energy outward and around you, as if you are creating a protective bubble for yourself. To enhance the intensity of desired outcome, surround yourself with corresponding elements. Light white candles or wear black tourmaline. I personally like to use dragon’s blood incense or oils. There are many things you can do in tandem with any of these practices, so long as they make sense for you and are helping you to achieve your desired results. This shield will become stronger the more you do this and keep you protected from psychic attacks, curses and hexes, negative energy, and bad intent. These exercises are all building blocks to unlocking great power within oneself, but they are also a great power on their own as well. Taking the time and patience to hone these skills will aid you in all your magical endeavors, whether through sharper focus, strong visual associations, enforced protective barriers, and/or knowing your true self above all else. Once you have established your abilities, you will be able to do them any time, anywhere and begin to play more with energy, both internal and external. In the follow up, I will focus on charging and programming.
Divination Misconception & Making the Most of Your Reading
I was chatting with @thymewitch last night and realized that I wasn’t the only one who struggled with querents asking too vague questions. And I realize now it’s because of giant misconception that is sorta perpetuated by the media!
The Misconception: There’s this universal belief that all diviners are psychic or have some sort of clair-ability. I really think this is because of the way diviners are portrayed in the media, often refered to as “psychics” or “fortune teller”. This causes querents to make 2 big mistake.
The first mistake is that querents will give too little information or ask a very vague question. Sometimes this is done on purpose (usually by skeptics to test the diviner’s abilities) but not always. The idea is that a question will be asked and the diviner will magically know all the answers. Some diviners do have clair-abilities that help them read vague questions but some of us don’t.
What we do have is a strong sense of intuition and a lot of knowledge on our tools. Usually, like tarot cards, the tool contains many meanings and interpretations. 1 tarot card can mean a bunch of different things depending on the situation and the surrounding cards. So how do we pick the right interpretation? It’s a combination of intuition and knowledge of what we are reading for. A vague question leads to a vague reading but a question with a good amount of detail becomes personal and in-depth.
The second problem that comes from people thinking that diviners are psychic? Well it leads to the idea that we can tell the future. We can’t! What we can do is give you a likely outcome based on the current situation. Actually most tools focus more on the present than the future. You might ask “well if you can’t tell us a definite future, what are you good for?”. It’s actually great news we can’t foretell a future! Imagine if what all diviners said was the truth, you’d get a negativity answer to your question and what would be the point in trying to achieve your goals? Instead ask us about your current path and, if it isn’t what you want it to be, how you can get on the right track! Doesn’t that sound better?
So how can you make the most out of your reading?
🔮avoid yes/no questions- they give you no information on what you are really asking. As soon as you get your answer to the yes/no question you’re eventually gonna have a follow up question!
🔮give details about your situation-you don’t have to tell us the whole story but a basic background helps us be more in tune with the reading.
🔮If you’re on Anonymous add an identifier (initials, an emoji, something). It adds your energy to the question and makes it a little more personal.
🔮finally dig deep and get to the nitty gritty of what you want to know. Why are you really asking this question? If you’re asking what will be the outcome of a relationship you might really want to know how you can strengthen your relationship-very different questions with very different answers. One will tell you how things will work out based on your current path and the other will tell you how to adjust your path to achieve what you want. Try to pick a question that empowers you and enables you to make a change.
That’s all for now! I hope this helps and,as always, if you have any questions feel free to send them my way! 💕
How to make a jarrarium 🌿
I've been wanting to make this post for a while, and now I have the time so here we go.
I've always wanted an aquarium, but I don't have the time or money for one. I decided to try making my own miniature pond in a jar and it went well, so I'm going to share what I did here:
What you will need:
A lidded Mason jar
Containers for harvesting plants and substrate
Some gravel or rocks
An air-tight container, such as a water bottle or another jar.
Once you have all of your materials, it's time to pack your bag and go find a body of water. I suggest using river water because I find it cleaner and easier to work with. I have a river near my house, so this was relatively easy for me.
First, you're going to want to gather some substrate.
As you can see in the photo shown above, I chose substrate straight from the banks of the river, where the ground was still submerged in water. It's important to gather soil rich with aquatic life. Any other soil will be home to invertebrates that cannot survive in water and will die in your jarrarium.
Secondly, if you encounter any vertebrates, such as small fish, leave it alone. They cannot survive in your jarrarium.
Next you'll want to gather your plants.
Here I have some moss, some leafy plants, and a little bit of grass. Look for plants in areas of the river that are still submerged in water, or where the banks are still relatively damp. This means that the river rises in this area and is a sign that the plants growing there can survive underwater.
In some places harvesting moss is illegal, so look up your local laws. Also familiarize yourself with endangered plants in your area to avoid accidentally harvesting any, and never disturb plants in a conservation area.
Dig your hands into the soil and gently remove the plant from beneath the root. Try not to disturb the plants around the one that you're taking. Shake off the excess soil and lay them in your container. Never take more than you need.
I have some rocks and gravel shown here too. This river doesn't have many rocks so I took these from my driveway 🤭
If you don't have rocks or gravel, that's okay. This will still work without it, but I find that even a few rocks provide drainage, which will help your plants thrive.
Once you have your plants and soil gathered, fill up your water bottle with river water and be on your way home. I took two bottles so I could have extra to keep in my fridge, for when I need to change the water.
Now you're home and ready to start your jarrarium. Here are the step-by-step instructions.
Add the rocks or gravel to the bottom of your jar.
Cover with soil. There should be enough substrate for your plants to grow in, but there should also be enough room in the jar for a decent amount of water. A little less than half the jar should be enough.
Carefully add your plants. Make sure that their roots are mostly in the soil and that they are standing upright. I added my more delicate plants first and then layered in the moss over their roots.
Pour your water into the jar. If you pour it slowly over the back a spoon, it won't disturb the soil as much.
Leave it undisturbed for a week. You can cover the jar if you'd like, but remember to take the lid off for a while every day, to give the ecosystem some air. It also needs to be exposed to direct sunlight as often as possible.
Here are some photos of my own personal jarrarium at different stages:
The disturbed soil will leave the water very murky. Leave it alone for about a week and you will see the water become clear and the plants begin to thrive.
Ways to make this project witchy:
You can add water-safe stones or specific aquatic plants with correspondences that match your intent.
You can also draw a sigil in the soil before adding it to the jar.
Personally, I decided that this jarrarium and the plants that it houses would be a physical representation of my goals and charged it during the following full moon.
Also upon gathering materials, I asked if it was okay for me to take what I needed and made an offering. A rock, some water that you haven't yet drank from, or something easily biodegradable is fine. I also picked up any litter that I found on my way home in exchange for what I took.
Quick note: If there are no bodies of water close to you, you are disabled and can't hike to find materials, or can't leave your house for any reason at all, you can still do this project! All of these materials, including plants and non chlorinated freshwater, are available online.
- Allison 🖤
*Edit: If you notice algae forming in excess at the water's surface and on your plants, change the water immediately and clean the sides of the jar. Algae will take all of the oxygen and nutrients in the jarrarium, suffocating your plants and microorganisms. If your plants begin to die from the algae, start over.

Simple Protection Amulet
This is an enchantment spell I wrote a while ago for that lil extra protection boost. I’ve done this spell three times, for three different people (including myself), and it’s worked every time. This spell is especially good for baby witches and closet witches. Keep in mind that this isn’t a super strong spell, it’s kind of like the first piece of armour you buy in a video game. Although it’s not particularly powerful, it’s definitely one of my favourite charms - I like to take it with me when I go travelling, or when I stay the night at someone’s house, so that if I start sensing negative energies I can wear it and have some instant protection magic happening! (note: i have included extra steps for wiccans - just ignore them if you’re not wiccan; although obviously, wiccans are fully-welcome to use the non-wiccan method if they wish to do so)
⛥ gather: black pepper (protection, inner strength, warding), whole cloves (protection, curse-breaking), salt (protection), any protective crystal (e.g. snowflake obsidian, fire agate, black tourmaline, etc; this item is optional), a small bowl, a necklace* to enchant
⛥ cast a circle, if you wish to (totally optional)
⛥ if you’re wiccan, call upon the god and goddess, and give them an offering (e.g. seeds, bread, fresh juice) and ask for them to assist you with this spell
⛥ mix the pepper, cloves and salt together in a bowl - the person who will be wearing the amulet should stir using their finger (on their dominant hand) to mix in their energies
⛥ next, the person who will be wearing the amulet should bury the necklace in the mixture
