hi, can we stop saying jessica looks bad for her age/niylah looks old/etc? jess has publicly spoken out multiple times about her struggle with cystic acne throughout her lifetime and the scars that has left behind on her face. on top of that, she was a smoker for many years and has recently been working on quitting. as someone who has met her and stood by her and talked to her, she doesn’t look ‘bad’ for her age at all, whatever the hell that means. if this fandom would pull their heads out of the mains asses and realize that the actors who play the supporting characters are actual people too, that’d be real great. maybe then i wouldn’t feel like some kind of shitty outsider here because i support the background characters and the people who play them.

“will you see if she’ll let you take her?” exhaustion clouds her voice, eyes closing briefly as she bounces athena gently. the little girl is quietly fussing, though content for the most part where her face is smashed against her mother’s neck. a large patch of drool covers clarke’s skin, though she has long since become immune to that type of thing. such was the life of a mother. “she’s got a slight fever and hasn’t let me put her down since she woke up this morning.” small smile curls the blonde’s lips as she looks up, finally catching a good glimpse of niylah. it makes her sigh softly, relaxing just a little bit, the other’s presence soothing to her after all this time spent together. “also, hi — we missed you.”

a small laugh passes her lips as she reaches out her arms to take the child from clarke. “ of course, ” she tells her, always ready and willing to help clarke when she needed it. and it was very few and far between that the other would even ask openly for her help without niylah having to practically force it on her. “ come here little athena, let’s give mama a rest. ” she smiles back up at clarke once the baby is in her arms and her features soften even more. “ and i missed you both too. now come inside and sit down. i have some root that should help with the fever. are you hungry? ”

“we have to start thinking about getting out of this lab—” lips press together, gaze flickering from niylah to the lab around them, hand lifting to brush hair out of her face. they’d been surviving off of what little rations they had, trying to wait for the fire outside to calm down, but they were quickly dwindling down on everything. “we’re going to starve if we stay much longer.” it was a miracle they had lasted this long, but clarke knew they had both been skipping eating and trying to give the other more. trying to make sure they both survived. hopefully they’d be able to get out and find food. something that would keep them alive.

she knew that eventually they would have to leave and try to find something else to continue eating. but really, would there be anything left for them? they still had to take something with them for travel and everything was running excruciatingly low. both of them too stubborn to let the other give them extra and always conserving as much as possible was going to do more harm than good in the end. she was afraid that once they left the lab that would be the end. though if they waited much longer it would be no different inside. “ i know -- ” she says with a nod toward the other woman. “ ...it’s not going to be easy to see the outside after the fires. ” her home was no more, and it broke her heart. though she’s glad she wasn’t alone and at least had clarke there with her.

hi, I just want to be clear that I am still looking forward to season 6. i still support this show, the cast, and everyone else behind it. I am not just in this show for stupid ass ships like it seems a large majority of the fandom is. So let's stop trying to tell the people who do still enjoy the show and are excited for what season 6 will be bringing us that we're stupid or that we shouldn't continue watching just because of ships happening or not happening. I couldn't care less who anyone ends up with. I don't want characters brought back from the dead. And I am allowed to still enjoy a show even if you don't. thanks for coming to my tedtalk. ✌️

after the five year mark had passed, considering any possibility other than dying underneath the ground had become a futile effort as far as april had been able to think. they couldn’t grow their population while stuck beneath with what little they had, of the eight hundred that were left, they barely had enough. before everything, it had been so easy to dream of a simple and happy future. even the months on the ground between the rest of them coming down and getting stuck down here had seemed so much easier compared to what had occurred down below the surface. the things that she wanted hadn’t escaped her even if it’s a bit hard to wrap her mind around the fact that they aren’t as distant now as they had been before.

“i want to be a mom,” she admitted. “it’s almost funny that before the bunker, i was… worried that i was waiting too long or something like that. now i’m grateful that i didn’t have any kids.” if the stunting of growth hadn’t taken a physical toll on the children who had been in the bunker, then it was sure to take an emotional one. so much had happened that she couldn’t imagine possibly trying to explain or rationalize to some curious child who just asked one too many questions. it would have been too much. “i guess i’m more of a dweller than you are. being a part of the present in the past few years hasn’t exactly been… easy. but i’ll admit it’s tiring to try and be an optimist for the future.”

nothing about the past years locked away in the bunker had been easy. it had started out okay, everyone optimistic for the way they would be able to live down there, but once the dark year hit -- everyone knew that it would only be downhill from there. and while niylah didn’t fully agree with the way things turned out, she didn’t know how else it would have been if octavia hadn’t taken control the way she had. it hurt her to think of the lives that were lost while they were down there. to think of the people who had to fight just to survive. and while she’s grateful she was never in that position, she knows that she can’t let herself think too much on what all they went through or she’ll never be able to move on with her life on the outside. even if she wasn’t sure how long that life was going to be now that they were faced danger once again.

a soft smile crosses her features at april’s answer. “ that’s a good thing to look forward to, ” she tells her with a nod in her direction. while she had never thought about children of her own, she grew up watching her mother help women who were having their own families. though, she can’t imagine how the children felt growing up in the bunker -- especially the younger ones who will remember all the blood and death that surrounded them in their young lives. “ the present isn’t always easy to deal with, people like to take themselves out of their present and pretend it doesn’t exist for them. but i can’t do that. if i do, then how do i learn from what i’ve been through? and as for the future, i try not to think too much into it. because if i look forward to things that never happen, then my present is only left with disappointment if those things never come true. ” it was just how she’d been taught to live her life by her parents. she assumed it was because they had both been through so much in their lifetime. both of them losing a child, then her father losing her mother. and while she too had experienced pain, she felt that letting herself wallow in the pain of the past, was never a good option for her.

“niylah—” her voice is paper soft, and clarke’s worried that the other woman won’t hear her. after all, there’s an entire yard space between them, and the blonde can’t move fast enough to get where she’s going. it’s too painful. halfway across the yard, the blonde has to stop, leaning against a nearby tree as she holds the side of her stomach. another contraction was ripping through her, and she could barely think straight. it was a miracle that she had made it front her camp to the trading post ( probably only because she had promised to stay close, and it wasn’t that far ). “niylah!” she only manages to get a little bit louder, crying out at the intense pain. something didn’t feel right, but she was trying so very hard to keep it under control. she didn’t want to freak out while she was alone. and hopefully.. hopefully niylah had heard her.

she’s trying to deal with what’s left of the garden, pulling the last of the vegetables before the cold sets in, when she swears she hears her name. there’s a pause, head lifting just slightly before she turns, name called out again before eyes land on the woman across the way. it’s easy to see who it is, and see what’s happening, and niylah drops everything that’s in her hands to rush over to clarke. “ baby -- she’s coming? ” she says as she nears the other, arms already reaching out to wrap around clarke’s waist so she can put her weight on her. she’s glad the other made it there in time, because she’s spent almost every night counting down and worrying that clarke was out there alone (and honestly if it had gone on a few more days she would have been out looking for her). “ come on, lean on me, i’ll get you inside...do you know how close your contractions have been? are you feeling okay? ”

“m’not sure that will help.” honestly, niylah was a distraction either way. and clarke wasn’t ashamed to admit that. whatever was happening between them… she hums lightly, head shaking just a bit as she glances down to the bow in her hands. “i just think i’m better with a knife.” shoulder lifts, eyes flickering back to the woman standing across from her. not that she minded the lessons. it was always fun to let niylah teach her new things. but this one might be completely pointless. she just couldn’t get the rest of her body to cooperate with what she knew the other was trying to tell her. clarke carefully stoops to place the bow on the ground, not wanting to damage it, rolling her shoulders to try and get some of the tension out of them. “i could probably throw a knife and hit the target better than i can shoot a bow.”

“ knives are good, but arrows go much further when you need them to. ” while she had no doubt that clarke could throw the knife and hit the target, she also knew that one could only throw so far, and after that is where the arrow came in handy. “ if you don’t want to continue, i won’t make you though. ” if clarke didn’t feel like she was getting the hang of it, niylah wouldn’t force her into it, the bow wasn’t for everyone. she had only picked it up when her father had insisted she learn to hunt on her own, and he’s glad that she had taken a shine to it the way she had. it had helped her in situations when she was younger and her parents had to travel and she was left on her own for days. it also made her feel a little safer alone.

she makes a mental note to sleep on one side of the bed, just so niylah didn’t have an excuse later on. as much as she would hate to admit it, clarke would probably enjoy the company. the feeling of someone next to her while she slept. especially after sleeping on her own so long, usually on the ground. “can i help?” it’s a pointless question, she knows this, but she has to offer. clarke doesn’t feel right just sitting around while niylah did everything to help her, even if the woman insisted. part of her felt as if she was taking advantage, even though the more logical part knew that the other woman preferred it this way. especially seeing that there was so little clarke allowed others to do for her lately.

“ you can help by sitting, and you and that baby resting while i get food done. it won’t take long. go on... ” she motions with her hands, shooing the other back toward the chair so she can sit. “ prop your feet up and just enjoy sitting for a little while. i promise if i need anything i’ll let you know. ” though she knew that wouldn’t be the case. all she had to do was get some meat over the fire and chop the vegetables she’d picked. once she got that started it was more of a waiting game than anything. it doesn’t take long for her to get the meat tied up and over the pit and the vegetables into a pot to boil before she’s back inside with clarke again to wait.

“i was careful — my friends are brats.” and that was putting it kindly. she easily moves into niylah again, eyes closing as they move inside the apartment. the question makes her pause, lips pressed together as she tips her head back to blink her eyes open. it was an odd angle to be looking at, and she soon found it made her nauseous. “couch. m’not ready to sleep.” and she knew if she laid down, she was going to fall asleep. no matter that she wasn’t exactly tired. mostly she just felt funny, and that was definitely down to the drink and whatever had been in it.

“ alright -- couch it is. ” she wouldn’t argue with the other woman, if she didn’t want to get into bed yet, that was fine. niylah knew that once she managed to get some food in her and whatever was in her system started to wear off, she might end up sleeping on the couch though. because she wasn’t sure she’d be able to get her up and to bed if she fell asleep there. she manages to help her over to the couch, pulling her arm from around her shoulders and easing her down onto it. “ i’m getting you some water and some crackers...and don’t think about objecting right now. because you at least need to eat the crackers. and if you have crackers without water you’re gonna choke on dryness. ” hopefully with a little food in her system it would help her a little. though, if she wasn’t any better after a few hours, niylah was going to force her to the hospital.

laugh falls from her lips, because niylah was definitely speaking from experience, and she found that it was something she wanted to witness for her. but there’s a shake of her head that follows, little frown forming. “i’ve never had reason for an apron.” she had never really needed to cover up when cooking, making sure to wear clothes she didn’t getting grease spots on. but now she knew she’d be going out to buy two. “i’ll slip a big shirt on.” she moves to climb off the bed, making sure to go over the other woman, their bodies brushing against each other as she did. “you want something to slip on, or are you going to walk around naked?” a pause, hovering over her as a smile curls her lips and eyes twinkle. “not that i’ll complain about that.”

“ mm, go ahead and toss me a shirt, ” she tells her, fingers dancing across clarke’s skin as she crosses over her. once the other is off the bed she’s already moving, legs thrown over the side as she stretches out with a yawn. “ can’t let you cook alone. but you really should invest in an apron. make a world of difference, ” she says with a grin, standing and moving toward the other to get whatever shirt she gives her. “ we should just have a lazy day with not much clothing involved though. ” the less clothing, the happier niylah was. and having clarke there to share in it would definitely be an added bonus.
