Lord, please. Please help us find Alex and his loved ones. It is one thing to lose someone who you did not communicate with often or someone who did not make a significant impact on your life but it is another thing when they are genuinely happy for you and your well-being. You try to keep those people close to you, even when they are miles and miles away. When we first met, we fought like cats and dogs but we made up like sister and brother. As I type these words, my heart is broken and I am crying because I am afraid for his family, his beautiful twin daughters, their mother, and all that he means to our small community of creatives. As we merry-make and celebrate the good times, I think as influencers or anyone with a responsibility larger than themselves, it is imperative to (also) show the other (not so prepossessing) side—the moment after the moment that we all have to face but do not glorify. I bet there is a scientific breakdown that can tell us why we are not happy all the time, and why it is not recommended. I bet the same goes for the reasoning behind why all animate things will expire. (Us included.) Fortunately, I haven't developed an appetite for perfection. I am far too imbalanced and extreme to ever reach a divine plateau and discover complete satisfaction. I am a writer. I am dreamer. I am a doer, and a teacher. I am an executor and an enforcer. (I was like that when you met me.) I have also learned to embrace my highs, my lows, and my setbacks, and to work through them. Emotional rollercoaster? No, my life is more like a day in the life of a free-fall or like the #NYSE. Up and down... up and down... and up again. People often ask: What keeps me going? I think it is that I am in deep, dark, lusty unconditional love with myself—at all times. Plainly, I don't seek validation in the way others do. It could be a good thing, a bad thing or a subjective thing but it is my thing. These flowers, given to me on the night of my birthday, are still beautiful. Just hung out with Peter Engel (Executive Producer of #SavedByTheBell and many other television shows); wearing some of my birthday presents from @quannamc @oakley and @newstandardedition. During our conversation, Mr. Engel told me about his new memoir—I Was Saved by the Bell: Stories of Life, Love, and Dreams That Do Come True—his favourite TV show as a child, a thing or two about failures and how to move forward regardless. I plan to sum up our conversation and publish it on @GrungeCake. I figure it would be an awesome way to celebrate the 90s, one of my favourite shows as a young girl, the author side of Peter, and personal achievements versus professional achievements. Did I mention he released his book on my birthday? Sorry I couldn't make it to the book release, Peter! Nonetheless, good luck in #Chicago. And I could not exist without the love of my parents. My dad is no longer here but my mom is. Mom, I love you so so much. Thank you so much for being the role model I needed to be able to help so many people and love everything about them unconditionally. There is no way I would have been in this business for as long as I have without your guidance and motivation to "just start." As I get older, I realize how much of an influence you have had on me. I am approaching the age you were when I was conceived. It is ironic that I am not a mother yet. Maybe I am waiting to follow in your footsteps again. Beautiful people: Good morning! Today is my birthday. Join me tonight in #Williamsburg—at a private location—to celebrate my life, and all of the good, incomparable, and supportive people you have met in your life. We don't get the praise we deserve all the time so I am taking it upon myself to share my moment with them. We are also not as common as people may think. For a long time, I was not aware of the volume of awesomeness I bring to people's lives because I was busy putting work in; thinking about how to get them to next level.
