“baby, you can’t stay up there forever!” adèle watched with glee as grace clung to the pole for dear life, looking the perfect picture of someone regretting their life choices. she didn’t want to laugh at her but it was hard not to, it seemed the kind of thing that could only happen to someone of her innocence. “you’re gonna start slipping sooner or later and that pole burn is gonna be mighty nasty. you’ve gotta do what i taught you, okay?”
adèle was a firm believer that everyone should try pole dancing at least once in their life. not only was it a great form of exercise, it made people feel powerful and free, there was no pride like acing a new move against the will of gravity and beliefs of what your body could do. it was why she’d invited grace along in the first place, to bring her out of her comfort zone and boy oh boy, she’d done that all right.
“you’ve got to use your legs, don’t just slide down cause you’re gonna burn your little hands all up.” adèle crossed her arms over her chest and took a step back, analyzing the drop from where grace was to the floor. “spin yourself slowly, like i showed you, loosen your grip and swing yourself around till you get to the bottom.”
Listening to her words carefully, Grace sighed knowing damn well Adele was right. “Okay, I’m coming down....but If I die, it’s on you” She joked before inhaling heavy now slowly twirling her legs down the pole her hands coordinating with each move as she she slowly made her way to the ground. Once reaching the ground, Grace exhaled loudly spinning around happily before touching the floor. “Oh dear ground how I’ve missed you oh so much. If I wasn’t a germaphobe I would kiss you so hard right about now.” Staying seated for a moment longer, Grace hopped up laughing. “Okay, I can’t believe I just did that and I wasn’t too scared. That was amazing. I felt like I was on top of the world.....literally”
It was one of the most intense lessons Adele had given her and she did not regret it one bit. Maybe towards the beginning, however, all of that seemed to stop once she reflected back on how much confidence radiated out of Grace. Being around Adele had changed her and she was beginning to like it. Sure, sometimes it was risky or way out of her comfort zone, however, it wasn’t unbearable. Grabbing her water bottle that was placed nearby, she took a long sip before closing the top and setting beside her. “Sometimes I find this exciting and feel like I’m wasting my time reading twenty-four seven. It’s crazy how being introduced to new things can show you what you’re missing in the long run. Speaking of new things” Grace got up swiftly, grabbing her bag as she picked out her book she had meant to give her. “I know, I know, a book---roll your eyes all you want but it’s a good one.” She smiled softly showing her the cover. It was an inspirational book that most people had already read. She wasn’t sure if Adele had read it, however, it was still good to have on the shelf. “You Are a Badass: How to stop doubting your greatness and living an awesome life” She read aloud before tossing it to her. “You’re already a badass, but just in case you seem to forget you are one---here’s something to read over”
