hi everyone! i’ve been doing some self-reflection, and i think this is a good a time as any to make a reminder post, specifically about why it’s so important to keep wizards a safe and inclusive environment. we’re a roleplay that’s been open for four years this october, and i would like to think that has something to do with the bond we’ve all formed over time with everyone here presently, as well with those who’ve gotten busy with life and gone their own way. however, it’s also important to remember that when a roleplay is open for a long time, people are automatically wary that they won’t be able to fit in and belong. this post isn’t here to suggest things aren’t okay right now, but that there’s always room for improvement. so, without further ado, here are some things we should all always stay vigilant and work on! in the words of mad eye moody, constant vigilance:
- everyone should always feel welcome. you should be aware of who everyone is in the rp and have chatted with them. we have nearly fifteen members in the roleplay at this point, and though this number increases and decreases all the time, its important to always be open to opening your writing circle. don’t be a malfoy, or even a harry!
- if you have multiple muses: you don’t have to have a thread going with every roleplayer on each of your characters, or a thread going with each and every character in the roleplay, but you do need to have a thread with each roleplayer between all of your characters collectively. if you have one or two characters, then you must get creative with writing with every roleplayer. this is something i personally strive for every day i log on. chant with me: group roleplay! group roleplay! group roleplay!
- there’s never an excuse to not plot. even if your characters don’t know each other, you can always write them meeting, or brainstorm a situation that would put them in the same space. even enemies can write together; those are sometimes the most fun.
- when it comes to threads, it’s helpful to put FIN if you are closing them for any reason; whether it be lack of muse, a natural ending, etc. this way, the person you were writing with will know that the thread is closing and not wonder if they’ve been ignored, you missed a reply, etc.
- as far as the rules regarding starter / starter calls, there’s been a couple of boo boos with them being followed. everyone may want to refresh their memory on the specific sections! you can use CTRL + F to search for ‘starter.’
- it’s fine to forget to use the complex tagging system on starters, or anything else related to the rp and its canons, but it’s not okay to get agitated or passive aggressive with the main, or anyone else trying to help you by lending a helping hand. this is why i prefer everyone try their best not to message me on any of my character blogs about admin related things, as i want there to be a disconnect between roleplayer and admin, and no animosity for what i do to keep the roleplay running.
- lastly: if you can’t keep a positive vibe, and talk constructively and non-passively when you’re unhappy, this might not be the rp for you. most of us have anxiety and are easily triggered, and we would like to maintain a healthy place to write. please be sensitive to your peers!
