Selena filled her glass with whisky and downed it all again in one gulp. She honestly did not know how to answer that question. Again, perhaps talking it out would help gather the cobwebs plaguing her mind. Talking it out would allow her to come to a proper conclusion as to how she is viewing this whole situation.
“Minerva. I look at the whole thing and I’m just shocked at how the world just went so out of control. I’ve had a few days to think about things though…. “
Selena sighed deeply and looked directly into Minerva’s green eyes. Eyes which have not dulled with age, but on the contrary is bright with the wisdom of her years.
“Severus…. he did so much, not only for this family but .. for a lot of people. His students… and many others. I look back to those years he was my professor.. and then when we became … friends and .. I’ve come to consider him as a father too. A relationship like that.. built in years.. doesn’t just disappear… No matter what…”
“You can’t control what your heart feels…” Selena said quietly.. repeating words that was said to her before, by a wise person…
“I’m sure you understand where I am coming from Minerva, you and Severus may have a different history from what we had.. but you were colleagues and friends for years…” The whisky bottle was empty now. She called over the bartender for another bottle. As she waited for the bartender to return, she was fiddling with her fingers.
“No matter what Severus did… it cannot be denied that he was able to help a lot of people… He was able to help me a lot too… I’m not the same person as I was before since I became close to Severus and Harry…”
“Magic, you know…” Selena laughed lightly. She didn’t know if she was making sense.. but talking about it helped a lot.
“The other day when I was at Percy’s I was able to glance at owls Harry and Percy were getting. Some of it saddens me.. I want to tell all these people that… they shouldn’t let Severus leaving impede their own progress… They shouldn’t turn back on what they’ve learned and how far they have come because Severus left, in a way, Severus has given them a leg up.. in the same way that Harry has done for others too…
“I… I take all the good things he was able to give me… and cherish those… Cherish what we had…. I’m thankful for all of them.. I really am. ”
Selena sighed and looked at the hustle and bustle around the tavern. The world was moving, but it really seemed like her own has stopped. The constants which she had cling on to… gone… It was all about rebuilding.. and making things better…
“Our actions don’t make up the entirety of who we are as people.. Even if we gather all the actions we did our whole lives… there’s still more to Selena.. to Minerva or to .. Severus than just those actions…. the reality of the human person is so much more… Beyond blood, beyond history and beyond being magical… we are human… “
She allowed the bartender to fill her empty glass. She sipped the liquid carefully this time. It was wrong to seek solace in such things.. but she found.. not a happy place in it.. but a place she was comfortable in, nonetheless.
“Even if.. I see that.. It doesn’t make things easier.. I’m just lost.. as things are now. I can be likened to a lost puppy really. Looking for the owner I’ve come to love and depend on so much.” Selena’s voice cracked at this point, but still she continued on. She recounted past events to Minerva, Lily’s party to the time Severus, Hermione and herself had tea, and so many other wonderful times.
“Severus, to the man I considered my father.” She raised her glass, and without waiting for Minerva, downed the whisky again. There was no hate in those words, they were sincere…
She placed her glass down unto the table, a bit harder that she meant to, but she was a bit inebriated and her locomotor movement was a bit beyond her control at the moment.
“Minerva..” Her speech was a bit slurred now.. “No, I’m not alright… but I will be.. I will be” Selena placed her head in her hands again, just trying to take in everything….
