ᚫᛏᛈᛋᛚᛟ ᛫ The man was taking quite a bit of time. Cu Chulainn had crossed those waters in a single bound, the famous Salmon Leap — but William Wallace was not descended from the gods… and he chose to swim the treacherous water. A rare move. Most men choose first to try their hand with the string, thinking they can climb across and evade the deadly depths below only to slip off and fall to their deaths, but he decided to ignore the string entirely. Scathach had watched William Wallace battle the surf from the shore for an hour or so before growing bored. She departed the shore of Dun Scaith to retreat into her castle, watching him struggle from a scrying bowl instead.
The Witch hovered over the bowl, her scarlet eyes peering into the still water while sitting on her favorite wooden chair in her tower, patient and analyzing him. Choosing to dive straight into the water and use strength rather than wit or a special skill to reach her island was a bold choice… He’d be exhausted now. The knight only had to cross a quarter of a mile of water, but the dangerous waves and rocks made a successful crossing nearly impossible; it was not outlandish that it should take him half a day. When he began to climb out of the surf, covered in blood and looking halfway dead, the Witch vanished from her castle and reappeared in the wilderness, just beyond the sight of him, sitting on a tree branch as she often did.
William Wallace, now that he was on the island, should notice that this was no simple island. A remarkable sense of dread and terror filled any who stepped foot here, the atmosphere tainted by the Otherworld maintained beyond the Gate. Those weak of will would be driven to madness or depression from it quickly. It was perhaps what made Scathach herself so belligerent. The landscape was incredibly dark despite being full daytime, the sun hidden behind impossibly thick clouds, no more than a lighter area of the cloud cover than otherwise. Shadows and darkness ruled here, and the scent of death and pine were powerful. It was a macabre land. A haunted land.
Scathach tilted her head slightly as he yelled to her. It was good of him to make it there, but not quite a feat in itself. Many boys and men made it to the island and never really began their training. His next task was to find her. To make eye contact with her… and Scathach was a hard woman to catch.
Fading herself into a shadow, she remained where she was, waiting to watch what he would do. If he came anywhere near her, she would remain invisible and leap away, through the trees, branch by branch. Finding the Witch would not be his only problem. He was in the land of the dead now. There were monsters and spirits afoot here… and they loved to consume the living. And his prey herself, Scathach, would not be amiss to suddenly attack or throw spears at him. William Wallace was in for a terrifying few days, weeks, months, or years. However long it took him.
Ah, it was good that he had his s...
shit. He didn’t. All he had left was... his body and the clothing on it.
Well there was the dagger he had on him, not his weapon of choice of course. But when it was that or punching things to death, he would take the sharpest object he could get his hands on... now then... to find his new teacher. Attempting to take a step forward reveals to Wallace the kind of state his body is in now, brutal and battered.... mulling it over to himself, he decides to take a more practical approach to all of this.
It takes time, and a lot of hiding, but eventually he creates a very basic shelter. A fire, some form of bed, and using the dagger he is able to make some form of spear..... yes. Keep his mind off of the fact his people were probably dying right now. He was going to die here after all, he was going to fai...
no.
stop that.
he was... he was...
Shaking his head, the Guardian once again finds these thoughts hounding him.
No friends.
No allies.
No sword.
Just his mind, his wits, and his will to survive... one that was slowly fading.
“She wasn’t lying ta me at least...” So far he had been lucky, avoiding the beasts of this place... how long would that luck last for though... damn it all.
Now that he had a place to rest.... the man took it on himself to actually rest for once. Closing his eyes, Wallace does his best to fight against the overwhelming dread... and does his best to fall into a somewhat comfortable sleep.
Without rest his body would fail, and his mind would follow soon after.
