Thoughts on Moniwa? Hmm. I needed to re-read the Dateko chapters anyway because of writing the pirates AU, so this is a good excuse.

I don’t know if I really have anything deep to say about Moniwa, though. I mean…he’s precious? Like, really, really, really, super-duper precious? That’s about it.

Because, right, if you read up on the names for Dateko, Moniwa’s name literally means keystone. And that’s what he is. He holds the Iron Wall together. On this team you have players like Kamasaki and Futakuchi, who are agressive both verbally and physically, and you have the silent, gentle giant Aone, and you’ve got a tiny libero and other personalities rounding it out. And the only way the Wall would be able to stand together is with someone like Moniwa pulling all the weight. I mean almost literally.

The guy is the captain. And the setter. And the mom.

Look at him:

Look at that short, slightly-built little darling.

Look at him scolding his cheeky kouhai for bad sportsmanship.

Look at him LITERALLY pushing Aone out of the way when he does something embarrassing.

Look at him using the tools available to him when he has to break up a fight. (Moniwa is smart, too.)

But also look at him just being the sweetest, most encouraging captain a shy, deceptively huge polar bear child could ask for. When he makes a mistake:

When he makes a good play:

When he’s starting to feel down:

Look at the way he pulls the team together.

And look how very much his team of giants respects and loves him. Look at how disappointed they are that they lost and how they want to win in the next tournament. For Moniwa-san just as much for themselves. And look how he turns that respect and love back to them and thanks them all for the time they’ve had together.

Look at how precious Moniwa is. Look at how precious Dateko is. I wish they could have won. I wish everyone could win.

So yeah, there are some rambling, not very useful thoughts about Moniwa. I hope you enjoyed.

if you were to assign the members of dateko to another team, where would they go?

moniwa - oh my poor anxious baby, to b honest i think i would like to see daichi and him run karasuno together. he's like if asahi was a blocker, lol.

kamasaki - this loud boy deserves another and so he can jive with tanaka and noya in karasuno

sasaya - seijoh. is it just me or does sassy sasaya have serious mattsun vibes? i wonder about a matsuhana x sasaya combi... poor iwaizumi now has a fourth troublemaker on his hands (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)

futakuchi - sass boi. sass bois go to inarizaki, either he will b forever at odds with miya bros, or aran has his hands full with three troublemakers.

aone - shiratorizawa. only because a strange thought passed by my mind, like how will aone talk to ushiwaka? they both don't talk much. i wonder how tendou will facilitate this friendship. i just want to see it happen so this was a very self indulgent choice

onagawa - honestly idk where he should go? he's got so little airtime. maybe he should join hyakuzawa, and show him what blocking should be?

obara - poor boy's current concern is that he has lesser presence than the other dateko second years (;-;) how cute. but it's true... the aofuta combi is too strong. i suppose he can join nekoma. not standing out sounds excellent for defence.

koganegawa - reckless and loud, like johzenji. but i don't think he could entirely fit there. probably inarizaki, kita would make him lay down his life for the team lmao

sakunami - nekoma. imagine: sakunami shibayama friendship. soft boys. reading under a tree. sometimes no one gets their libero thoughts. yaku always finds them calming to talk to but also slightly creepy that they are so in sync. people mistake them for each other all the time. one time they tried to play a prank and swapped places the entire day. no one noticed. they were sad, so they never revealed it. only fukunaga noticed, he loved it, but didn't say anything. he doted on them a little bit more after that
