I'm back (kind of)! This is a special piece for a moot of mine's birthday. I hope you have a fabulous day @icarus-fw and I hope you enjoy the fic! This isn't a fandom I'm super familiar with (or one I've ever written for) so hopefully I did an okay job with characterisation!
As you slowly began to slip from sleep to consciousness, the significance of the day and the anticipation from last night suddenly returned in full force. It was your birthday! You smiled to yourself under the covers before turning over to face your boyfriend.
Rohan was already awake, staring up at the ceiling, rubbing his hands and stretching his fingers. You watched him for a moment, taking in the way his unstyled green hair fell around his face. There was something different about seeing him like this, so relaxed and domestic, no sign of the persona he put on every day.
Then his face turned towards yours and he smiled.
“Morning. How did you sleep?”
You nodded and nestled yourself into him. “Good.”
He wrapped an arm around you and pulled you closer, pressing a soft kiss to the top of your head. “Happy birthday.”
You smiled again. “Thank you.”
“What do you want to do today? You’ve got me all to yourself. Whatever you want to do, the great Kishibe Rohan will oblige.”
You hummed in mock thought. Admittedly, you’d already put some consideration into what you wanted to do. Rohan didn’t just take the day off for anyone and even though you were his girlfriend, you knew you needed to make the most of the quality time together.
“I’d like to do some arts and crafts. Something I haven’t tried yet.”
Almost immediately, Rohan was sitting up. “What sort of art? We could book in for a sculpting class or a paint and sip session? Or I can teach you some more mangaka tricks. But no, we’ve done that before. Something new, something new…”
You laughed at how excited he was. Although you did genuinely want to do arts and crafts today, you had also wanted to pick something your boyfriend would enjoy. You knew he tried hard to not treat you the way he did others and the fact he respected you and loved you helped. But he was still learning and his patience had a limit.
“Actually, I’d like to do some beading. Make some bracelets, y’know?”
Rohan stilled, seemingly deep in thought. “I haven’t done beading before either actually. I usually just buy all my jewellery.”
You couldn’t help but roll your eyes, glancing over at the large collection of Gucci watches and earrings draped over his bedside table. “Yes, I know how much you like your designer decorations. But I think it would be fun! Then we can have some pieces made by our own hands.”
He nodded, slowly at first, then faster. “I like it! I’m sure bracelets made by such a renowned mangaka would sell well. Maybe I can make some as a collector piece for my next work.” Then he was moving, out of bed and over to the wardrobe. “We’ll need to get beads and elastic.” He paused. “Or would you prefer leather and clasps?” A shrug. “We’ll get both.”
Then another pause, longer than the last as he turned to look at where you were still laying in bed. “Breakfast first. What would you like? My treat. It’s not every day these skilled hands make breakfast for someone else. So you’d better pick well.”

The art store was a veritable wonderland of supplies. From paints, to pencils, to full easels, it had everything you could imagine and artist wanting and more. Rohan led you by the hand towards the back of the store with a confidence that made you question his proclaimed lack of experience with beading.
“I thought you hadn’t done any jewellery making before?”
He shook his head. “I haven’t. But I’ve come here often enough that I know where things are in the store. And I know this is the beading section.”
Sure enough, as you rounded an aisle, you were faced with shelf upon shelf of beads, all sorted by colour and size into little containers. Along the bottom of each side of the aisle were containers with a selection of beads. You turned to Rohan with your jaw dropped. He grinned back at you.
“We need to come to the art store more often if that’s your reaction.” He gestured to the aisle. “Pick out whatever you want, this is my present for you.”
As you picked out your favourite colours and styles of beads, Rohan added threading, tools, and beading boards to the basket he was carrying. Every now and then, you saw him slip a container of beads of his own into the basket too. You made sure to take note of which ones he liked best, an idea formulating in your mind.
By the time you’d reached the end of the aisle, the basket was filled with all the supplies you’d need for your jewellery making endeavours.
“Got all the beads you want?” Rohan asked.
You nodded. “Do we have all the tools we need?” You looked down at the filled-to-the-brim basket. “Maybe I should ask if we have too much?”
But Rohan just shook his head. “No such thing as too many art supplies. It's always better to have too many options than not enough choices to express your creativity the way you want.” He tilted his head towards the checkout. “Come on, let's head home and get started.”

When you got home, Rohan set lunch out on the table for you before darting off to another room with a quick reassurance he’d be right back. You picked at the food in front of you, wanting to wait until he got back but after realising he was going to take longer than you thought, you decided to just enjoy your meal.
Finally, he returned and sat down across from you, attacking his own food.
“What took you so long?”
He barely looked up from his plate. “Just setting up a surprise for you. Come on, eat up!”
Once lunch was finished and the table had been cleared, Rohan carefully led you, hands over your eyes, into another room. Once there, he let his hands drop to reveal the living room, a large space in the centre cleared to leave room for a low table surrounded by cushions. All of your beading supplies were set up on the table.
You turned to face Rohan, your jaw dropped for the second time today. He had a smug, self-satisfied smile on his face. “Surprise!”
You threw your arms around him in a tight hug. “Thank you! It’s wonderful!”
When you pulled back, his cheeks were flushed. “If your legs get tired sitting on the floor, I’ll pull over a chair for you. And we can put on some music or your favourite show while we work. Your call.”
You sat down on the pillows, Rohan taking his place across from you. “This is amazing, thank you. It’s everything I could have hoped for today.”
Rohan reached out and picked a container of beads from the pile. “You’d better get crafting, there’s lots of jewellery to make.”
You took your time picking out the beads you wanted. You’d decided you were going to make two bracelets to start with. One with your favourite colours and your initials, the other in colours that reminded you of Rohan with his initials on it. You figured if he wanted, you could wear them as matching couples jewellery.
Once you’d picked out your beads you split them into two groups, the ones for your bracelet and the ones for Rohan’s. You made sure to put some of your favourite beads into each. And then you started working, cutting the band, lining up beads in the pattern you wanted, and threading them on.
Occasionally you looked up to see what Rohan was working on and if he was enjoying the process as much as you were but at some point he’d shifted so his beading board was hidden. His brow was furrowed and he seemed to be muttering to himself. You took that as a good sign.
Finally, your bracelets were finished. You admired the colours and shaped beads in the bracelet with your name spelled out in the beads, then turned your attention to the one with “Rohan” decorating the middle. You’d chosen white, gold, and green beads for that one and picked some star beads to frame his name that you thought worked really nicely.
“Hey, Rohan.”
You got a grunt in response.
“Look what I made.”
Another hum and a soft “nice” was all you got in return.
“You didn’t even look at them.”
“The great Kishibe Rohan is currently engaged in the crafting of a masterpiece. I’ll look at your measly work later.” Rohan’s tone was clipped and the furrow in his brow had deepened.
Spurned, you put the bracelets down and picked out some different beads for a new project, trying to distract yourself from the hurt in your chest. He could have at least pretended to be interested in what you’d done. But no. He was currently too self absorbed to pay his girlfriend any mind.
When you’d first started getting to know Rohan, you’d quickly discovered he was coarse and abrasive. But as you grew closer, you noticed below that he cared deeply about those he loved. And when you started dating, you had come to realise, even if he loved you, he could still reach a point where he treated you almost like he treated other people.
You knew he tried though. And usually that was enough. But today it stung a bit more than usual.
You weren’t sure how long you’d been stuck in your head but you were suddenly pulled from your thoughts by Rohan clearing his throat. You looked up to find his head raised, albeit tilted away from you.
“Sorry.” He wouldn’t meet your eyes. “I…should have looked when you wanted to show me your work. What I said was unwarranted.”
You held yourself back from saying it was okay. You’d quickly learnt from your relationship with Rohan that if he’d done something that hurt you, you had to make it clear you weren’t going to move on with a simple “it’s okay”. That didn’t help anyone.
He cautiously met your gaze. “I’d like to see your work please. If you still want to show me?” His voice was soft and timid, so unlike the Rohan you were used to.
You nodded and held up the bracelets. “I thought maybe we could wear them as couples jewellery? Like, I keep the one with your name and you keep mine so we think of each other when we see them?” Your courage faltered at his silence. “B-but we don’t have to. It’s kind of a cheesy id-”
Rohan cut you off by reaching across the table and taking the bracelet with your name on it. He examined it closely. “You know, if you want matching jewellery, Gucci has a nice collection. It would be nothing out of my account to buy something for you…” He looked up and saw the crestfallen look on your face. “Ah, but thank you! It’s lovely work.”
And with that, he slipped the bracelet onto his wrist. Its colours stood out against his attire and you let out a quiet laugh. “It’s not really your style is it?”
Rohan feigned insult. “Excuse me, I’ll have you know my wonderfully talented girlfriend made this for me. And Kishibe Rohan only wears the finest things in life so you know this is a quality piece.” He looked down at the bracelet, turning his wrist to get a better view of it and his voice grew soft again. “Thank you. It’s nice.”
Suddenly he held up a hand. “Hang on. Give me a minute.” He fiddled with something on his board and a moment later, held up a completed bracelet made up of all your favourite beads.
“I was watching which beads made your eyes light up most and only used those.”
You took the bracelet, your stomach swooping at the consideration and attentiveness he’d put into it. You looked up to see him watching you closely.
“I love it. Thank you Rohan.”
A smile broke out across his face, that mixture of self-assuredness and genuine happiness you so enjoyed seeing. You slipped the bracelet onto your wrist alongside the one you’d made with his name. They looked nice together, a combination of both you and the one you loved.
An idea struck you. “How about we make the next pieces together? That way we’ll both have a say in the beads we pick?”
Rohan paused to think before nodding. “A collaborative project. I like it.” He shuffled around to sit beside you on the pillows before reaching across to grab a container of beads. As you did the same and started tipping them out onto the beading board, Rohan wrapped an arm around your shoulders, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead.

Your year is up and your curse is set to take over, changing you into an anomaly. But you've discovered that by eating the plants growing from your body, your body doesn't change. Despite this wonderful news, you don't tell the ghouls straight away. So how do they react when they do finally find out?
Jo’s got mixed feelings about this. His first response is bursting delight that you haven’t changed and he gets to spend more time with you.
But he’s also going to be a little grossed out when he finds out honestly. Something about eating something that grew from your body strikes him as offputting.
He’s not going to let that change how he feels about you though! He still loves you and if this means you’re not changing into a kyklos, he’s grateful.
He will have to leave the room when you eat though. He’ll happily guard the door or turn people away when you do need to eat. He just doesn’t want to see the process.
Mio’s mind is immediately going towards trying to figure out why you eating the plants growing from your body is stopping your transformation. He likes understanding things and this is a big mystery.
He’s swiftly going to pivot to working out how his machines might be able to help you. Especially if the process of removing the plants from your body hurts, he’s going to try and figure out how he can make it a painless process.
I don’t see him being too grossed out though. I imagine Mio is someone who likes biting at the dry skin around his fingernails so in his mind, you eating the plants is a lot like that.
Above all, he’s just happy you haven’t changed. Any other mysteries can be worked out later. For now, he’s going to enjoy every moment he gets to spend with you.
Elias doesn’t really know how to feel about this. On one hand, he’s glad you’re not forever changed into a kyklos. And he doesn’t find the process gross.
But on the other hand, he doesn’t understand it and no one else does too so he can’t exactly finger out what’s happening by snooping around like he usually does.
He’s going to let you lead the way for a lot of this. If you want it to stay a secret, he’ll work hard to make sure people don’t find out. If you want certain people to go, he’ll make sure they don’t spread word further than that.
He’s also pretty easy going whether you want him around to help with the eating process or not. If pulling the plants out hurts, he’ll help ease the process however he can.
Shion’s confused. I’m not sure how well he understands what your curse means but he’s definitely understood that you’re going to change and now you haven’t. So what’s happening?
He’s not really going to look into it too much though. At the end of the day, you’re still you, you’re still part of his family, and that’s all that matters.
He’s not wigged out by you eating the plants growing from your body either. Why would he be? This is such a normal thing compared to some of the things he’s done.
If anything, he’s going to try his best to eat some as well. Anything to be closer to you. At the very least, he’d like to sit and watch you eat them whenever you need to. It feels intimate.

Jo’s very attentive so he’s going to piece together that you’re hiding something. He’ll definitely ask you about it but won’t pry if he can see it’s making you uncomfortable.
When you do eventually tell him you’re a witch, he’s going to let out a laugh of relief. That’s all? That’s what you were worried about him finding out?
He’s surrounded by ghouls and made a deal with a demon that lets him change his gender. You being a witch is nothing. He’s one of the most accepting people in Darkwick in my opinion.
He thinks you being a witch is really cool though and would love to watch you do magic in whatever form that takes. He’s also more than happy to help you out with getting materials or spell books.
For all his wonderful traits, I don’t think Mio is the most observant when it comes to the people he cares about having secrets. It just doesn’t cross his mind that they’re keeping things hidden from him.
When you do tell him, he’s pretty surprised. His knowledge of machines is amazing but his knowledge of witches is pretty poor. Honestly, he didn’t even know witches really existed.
He’s super supportive though. He feels kind of bad for not noticing before so he’ll do his best to make up for it now. Whether it’s discretion, a place you can practice magic, or materials, he’ll make sure you’ve got what you need.
I can see Mio also working out how to incorporate your magic into his machines. There’s so many ideas he’s got and he’d love to work on them with you sometime.
Elias is going to find out you’re a witch before you get around to telling him. He sees and hears a lot while wandering around campus as the janitor.
He’s definitely going to have uncovered a lot of secrets and yours is no different. He won’t confront you about it though. He’ll wait until you approach him first.
At the end of the day, I don’t see Elias treating you any differently. It’s just another part of you and that’s not going to change the way he sees you.
If you’re super against people finding out though, he’ll pull some strings to make sure your secret stays hidden. Just don’t ask too many questions about what strings he’s pulling.
Okay. Shion’s not going to take the news exceptionally well. But not for the reason you’d expect. He doesn’t care whether you’re a witch or not. He cares more that you were keeping a secret from him.
You mean everything to him. You’re part of his family after all. So finding out you’ve been hiding part of who you are? That hurts him more than he was expecting.
He will move past it eventually though. He cares about you too much to let it permanently affect your relationship.
And when he does, you’ve got a very protective guard dog defending you from anyone who dares treat you badly for your witchiness. After all, no one’s going to hurt you on Shion’s watch.

Oh, Jo knows exactly what’s going on from the get go. He knows you’re attractive to him and he’s pretty sure you find him attractive too, regardless of his form.
But he’s not sure whether this is just a crush or proper capital “L” love. He’s got self-confidence but he likes to know things before he acts.
He’s quite busy with running Dionysia, and even more so trying to get the house back up and running. So when he sees you helping out with the little things - a fresh cup of coffee when he’s left his too long, tidying his clothes, fixing his hair - it means a lot.
And all of a sudden, he realises he can’t imagine not having you around. You’re such an important part of his life that love is really the only way he can describe it.
Ultimately though, I think he might wait for you to make the first move. He’s probably going to up the teasing though so be ready.
Mio’s a pretty practical guy and he’s certainly not an idiot. But he is someone who puts a lot of things to the side to prioritise his work. And his emotions are always the first to be ignored.
I think Mio would realise he’s in love when you show a genuine interest in his creations. Everyone on campus appreciates his work for their uses but very rarely do they care enough to learn about them.
But then you make a point of setting aside time to listen to him explain his latest work, brow furrowed in concentration as he points out components and functions.
And when you ask a question that shows you’ve really been listening to him, the fluttering in his chest reaches a point that he can’t deny it any longer.
He won’t dilly dally after that. After all, he’s a practical guy. He’s not going to waste any more time if it’s time he can spend with you.
I think for Elias, realising he’s in love is a gradual process. I don’t see him as someone who just suddenly realises he loves a person.
Instead, it’s lots of little things you do. It’s the time you brought him his favourite coffee while he was doing janitor work. Or the time you somehow knew he was in a crowded room and sought him out.
He falls in love a little more each day until one day he realises he’s loved you for a while and he’s only just put two and two together.
Once he does make the connection, he’ll probably just keep acting the same as before. Your relationship is already a good one, he doesn’t necessarily feel the need to ask you directly.
He’s spent enough time around you to have a decent idea of how you’re feeling though and if he sees you’re looking for a proper relationship, he’ll ask you out formally.
For Shion it’s love at first sight. Or close to it. I think for a moment, he’ll just see another person who needs some fun in their life. And then he takes a second glance and sees you.
He’s not backward in coming forward and will pursue you romantically immediately. Well, romantically from his perspective at least. It might take you a while to realise what he’s doing comes from a place of love.
He’ll never ask you out directly. As far as he’s concerned, you’re already in a relationship with him, why would he need to ask you to be his partner?
If he ever has a moment of clarity within all the insanity, I think he would realise he really, truly loves you when he recognises the fact that you stayed.
He knows he’s not exactly the most “normal” person. But you stayed with him despite that. And that makes his heart melt a little more.

Jo puts up a confident and flirty facade. He’s pretty certain nothing your ex brings to the table will measure up to him. I mean, he can literally be whatever gender you prefer on any particular day. You get the best of both worlds with him.
But beneath that, he can’t help but feel a twinge of self-doubt. What if you prefer someone more…concrete? He knows his personality and appearance are always shifting and he’s worried you’re going to get tired of that.
He’ll talk to you though. And as soon as he finds out you absolutely do not what to get back together with your ex, he’s becoming your knight in shining armour.
Whether it’s standing up for you in front of them or just supporting you from the sidelines while you tell them yourself, Jo will do whatever you need to send your ex packing.
Mio’s not pleased at all but he’s not going to say anything straight away. I think he’s got a bit of a jealous streak that he tries to ignore because he knows logically he’s being ridiculous.
But emotionally, he’s all over the place. He knows he’s not the most attentive boyfriend, especially with how much time he spends working on his machines. And he’s terrified you’re going to leave him for someone who’ll be around more.
You’re probably going to have to talk to him about it first, otherwise he’ll bottle up his feelings until he explodes. He’s going to need a lot of reassurance after this to bring himself back from the mentality he’s worked himself into.
Once he’s back on track and thinking clearly again, he’ll have words with your ex. He’s gotta let out all that jealousy and anger after all.
Elias is another quiet one but he’s scheming from the get go of how to get your ex away from you. He cares about your feelings on the matter of course but there’s no way he’s letting your ex get away with you.
He’s probably not going to talk to you about it honestly. If you bring it up first, he’ll talk it out of course but he’s not going to start that discussion off his own back.
As far as he’s concerned, you’re in a relationship with him because you want to be with him, not your ex. And your ex isn’t understanding that so he’s going to bring it up with your ex before he brings it up with you.
I’m not saying he’s using his janitor privilege to keep a close eye on your ex for a while…but your ex might notice a figure lurking just outside of their peripheral vision for the next few weeks.
Oh yeah. This is going badly immediately. There’s no situation where Shion finds out someone’s trying to steal his partner away where he doesn’t immediately turn to violence.
Not towards you of course. Never towards you! But your ex is absolutely on the chopping board and Shion’s out for blood. If your ex ever treated you badly, it’s made even worse.
It’s going to take a herculean effort on your part (and probably the other Dionysia ghouls as well) to talk him down. And even then, you’re going to need to keep a close eye on him for a while. Probably safest to tell Darkwick so they know to keep your ex away from Shion for the foreseeable future.
Shion just loves you so much, he can’t stand the thought of someone stealing you from him. What would he do without his partner after all?

I think Jo would like someone flexible. He’s a pretty spontaneous person and likes it when his partner can do the same.
Having said that, he also needs someone to be a stabilising force in his life. He’s been through a lot, between Dionysia going defunct and then coming back, and trying to manage the chaotic ghouls and students of the house.
I feel like being a good listener is something Jo wouldn’t seek out in a partner but if you are one, he would be eternally grateful. He doesn’t always realise it but he needs someone he can turn to when he needs to vent.
Jo would absolutely love it if you liked dressing up! It doesn’t have to be anything crazy like doing full drag or even crossdressing if that’s not something you’re comfortable with. He just likes the excuse to get out his fanciest clothes and make use of them.
Mio would like someone creative. That doesn’t mean you have to paint or sculpt, or even do anything physically creative (although he would absolutely support you if you did). He just likes being able to discuss his work and having someone creatively minded be able to shoot back out-of-the-box ideas.
The exact opposite of Jo, Mio would love it if you’re a yapper. I feel like he struggles with silence a bit since he’s so used to being in the workshop where there’s always noise. If you’re chatting away about everything and nothing, it helps him focus when he’s away from all that.
He would also really appreciate it if you’re the responsible type. He’s vice-captain of Dionysia after all and a lot of people on campus count on him. Having a reliable partner to help him out would mean a lot.
Mio spends a lot of time in the workshop and running around campus doing odd jobs so he’d find comfort in knowing you have your own life and hobbies to fill the time he can’t be with you. That way he doesn’t worry about you being sad and lonely while he’s busy.
I think Elias would like someone chill. Someone who’s laid back and matches his easy going nature. I think he gets socially burnt out pretty fast after spending so much time as the quiet janitor so he needs to ease back into normal life.
Speaking of which, he would appreciate someone who can take the lead and suggest interesting date ideas. He’s all for going places, he’s just also not really sure what places you’d like to go. If you take the initiative instead, he’ll happily follow along.
Someone private would peak Elias’ interest. Initially, he wants to discover who you are but once you’re in a relationship, he values the privacy since you don’t go around telling everyone everything about the two of you.
That being said, he hears a lot of things while out doing his janitor work and I think he would like someone he can sit down with at the end of a long day and gossip with about all the goings on of campus. It's a nice downtime activity for him.
What Shion wants is someone fun. Someone he can be chaotic with who will be chaotic in return. The Harley Quinn to his Joker (although without quite as much manipulation). If he finds you boring, he wouldn’t seek out a relationship with you.
However, what Shion needs is very different. Above all else, he needs someone willing to learn. Being in a relationship with him brings a lot of new challenges to the table and you’re going to need to be adaptable if you’re going to manage.
For the sake of others, as well as himself, he needs someone who can manage him and keep him in line. Some of his ideas are worse than others and having someone around who can put the brakes on will do him good in the long run.
Having said that, he also needs someone accepting. You’d certainly have an influence over him but at the end of the day there are some things you’ll never be able to change. If you accept him, troubles and all, that will mean more to him than he’ll ever be able to express.
