" the smile that sora gives is a bit weak, trying not to wince with how his feet ache. it isn't that he doesn't enjoy spending time with rapunzel -- he does! he loves it! -- it's just ... well, they've been walking for what feels like hours, and he thinks his feet are a few steps away from turning to stone with how heavy they feel. and that's with his magic fairy-godmother shoes. sora has no idea how the heck rapunzel's still walking barefoot. " how much farther is this place? don't s'ppose there's anywhere we can stop for a bit...? "

There were some things Riku liked about the fact that he had grown up a LITTLE since when they were children -- racing Sora was a [ [ l o t ] ] easier when he TOWERED over him like an oak tree . Besides , it was always more fun to win , though Riku would only admit that in the sanctuary of his mind to avoid hurting Sora's feelings .

Sometimes , he cared .

" -- How is it not fair ? "

Riku asked as he continued to BOLT past Sora .

" -- Run faster . "

In his eyes , he didn't see himself as a CHEATER because he was just using what he was given to his advantage . Sora , on the other hand , was [ [ a l w a y s ] ] a cheater . Taking off quickly before actually counting down to three , using SPELLS to be places faster . Really , if Riku didn't know any better , he would say Sora only knew how to cheat . And oh ? There he goes again .

Sora's use of the keyblade is almost [ [ p r e d i c t a b l e ] ] by now . Sure enough , with the blink of an eye , he was right there at the gummiship .

" -- Looks like you did . Maybe you're not such a lazy bum after all . "

The silverette laughed as he placed his right hand on his hip .

" . . .But , that means I'm driving . "

❝ nope! not anymore! ❞ he rubs across the tip of his nose with the knuckle of his pointer finger, smug and satisfied by his victory. truth was -- he kinda still was a lazy bum. he just had a bunch more ways to get away with it. work smarter, not harder after all. he was so satisfied with his win, actually, that he didn't catch on to what riku said at first.

❝ yup! sure do - hey! wait a second! ❞ sora narrows his eyes, pointing accusatorily at riku now. ❝ no it doesn't! i won, fair and square! i'm driving, remember? pilot seat! ❞ he pats his own chest for emphasis.

" uh oh ... " sora raises his gaze to look at aerith, looking sheepish with red cheeks and a timid smile. his smile widens as he scratches at his cheek with his finger, shoulders raising as he offers up a tiny laugh. " i think ... i made a mistake. "

Luxu frowned looking at Sora holding the Keyblade, a criticism he always had but never dared to speak up about while he was still pretending to just be another of Xehanort's lackey's was the so-called Keyblade hero's stance. Not being able to correct it had bugged Luxu for as long as he had known Sora, he had also had the same problem watching Roxas and Xion struggle with their own Keyblades.

At least now Luxu did not have to hold his tongue anymore.

"Straighten your back when you're holding it." He instructed, "And widen your stance." As he spoke, Luxu's voice seemed to shift, obviously trying to keep his usual gruff tone but with a subtle hint of a voice that he had not used in several life times; the voice of a teacher. Not a gentle or kind teacher by any means, but one who was earnest with his role in making sure his student succeeded. Luxu was almost surprised himself hearing that voice come out of his mouth again after such a long time.

❝ huh? o-oh. ❞ straighten his back ... and widen his stance. it took a few seconds of uncertainty before sora managed to - he thought, anyway - follow the instructions properly. ❝ like this? ❞ it felt ... off. not that he didn't trust master luxu! he was obviously way more experienced with it, and it did feel like it looked more like what a proper stance should be ... but it felt foreign, too. like it wasn't how he was used to holding a keyblade. was that because he didn't remember how to? or had his stance always been different? ❝ am i supposed to feel like - i dunno, it feels ... off like this, kinda. ❞

" aw, c'mon, riku! " sora gives his best friend a pleading look, hoping it'll work on him. " one time! just once! i promise it's fun! and safe! trust me, i've done it tons of times. " and he's being honest, too! even donald and goofy had fun! well. okay, even goofy had fun! riding the mountain coaster looked a lot scarier than it actually was.

"data sora. . .?" he muses aloud. well, leave it up to chip and dale to get something like this to work from a journal kept during sora's travels. he stares at his phone as the sora within it speaks. his heart swells at the sight of him, feeling nostalgic for a sora he wishes he could have— should have done more for. he wishes he could reach in and hold him, but he doesn't think that'll happen. at least, not any time soon. he hasn't forgotten his time in the grid, and knows that it's perfectly possible for it to happen. . . but it might take time.

"so you're along for the ride, huh?" he smiles, taking a seat. he props his phone up— he's got some time before he has to take off. "what do i call you? sora? data sora?" he doesn't want to upset him. that's the last thing he wants. "and, uh, is there. . . anything i can do to make this more comfortable for you?"

" heh. yup! you know, i always wanted to go on an adventure! " the datascape was nice and all, and sora didn't mind living in it or acknowledging that he was just bits and bytes, but the idea of being able to tag along for a real adventure was exciting! especially with riku! the human one! sora was willing to bet the data he'd collect on his phone would be crazy cool.

" and data sora is fine! it is what i am, after all! " he gives a bob of his head, unfazed by the title because he's being sincere: it is what he is, and he's okay with it! proud, even! it reminds him of the fact that he was able to help his friends in a way that mattered, that otherwise wouldn't have been possible. " i guess ... try and keep your phone charged? i get kinda drowsy when the battery gets too low. "

Rapunzel's   attention   turned   to   the   bunny   Sora   pointed   out   and   just   as   he   said...   the   little   fluffball's   similarity   was   uncanny.   It   immediately   prompted   laughter   of   her   own.

"Okkaaay   ....   that's   kinda   scary!   Are   we   sure   he   wasn't   turned   into   a   bunny   by   mistake??"

And   then   when   the   keyblade   wielder   pulled   out   his   ...   strange   device?   The   blonde   canted   her   head   in   fascination!   "wait...   what's   that   thing?"   curiosity   piqued,   she   crawled   over   to   her   friend,   practically   hovering   over   his   shoulder.

"You're   gonna   take   a   what??   I   wanna   see!"

" oh! this? " sora blinks, moving his phone so it would be easier for rapunzel to see. now that she mentioned it ... he doesn't think he saw anyone in this world with a gummiphone! maybe they didn't exist here?

" it's a gummiphone! it takes photos! liiiike ... " he opened up the camera app and turned the lens around, flashing a big bright grin as he snapped a selfie of both him and rapunzel. " that! see? " he held the phone out so the photo on the screen was easily seen. " pretty cool, huh? "

whoever this guy was, he sure looked cool. sora was momentarily starstruck by the sight of him, and couldn't help the soft, awed 'cool...' that left him before he forced himself to focus again. ❝ can i? if you know how to get outta this place, then yeah! ❞ sora wouldn't pass up on a generous offer like that! especially if the other option was staying in this creepy place.

halloween town and monstropolis had been kinda creepy, too, but in a cool way. this place, though? it was giving sora goosebumps, like he wasn't supposed to be here. it was a feeling that grew stronger the further down the subway tracks he went and first saw those ... things.

whatever they were, they weren't heartless, that was for sure.

sora walked up to the other boy, oohing and ahhhing at his mask and tailcoat. ❝ so uh, speaking of ... what is this place, anyway? and what're those creepy things patrolling everywhere? ❞

"Oh, um, well, I don't think I've ever actually met you! I mean, I've met Riku, and he's told me about you, but I don't think, um.. H.. hey, what about your cat? Why don't we go try finding your cat?? It can't have gotten too far, right? When did you last see it??" anything to distract him from the topic of xion themselves.. they can already tell this is outside their usual exploration grounds, and outside their worlds. best not make things too confusing.

❝ huh? ❞ they've met riku but not him...? sora's at a loss as he stares at them, but their abrupt topic change isn't lost even on someone like him. he's not really sure what's going on here, but ... ❝ uh! i last saw him ... about an hour ago? i've been looking for him ever since... ❞ sora frowns as his focus is successfully diverted back to his missing dream eater. ❝ his name's meow wow! he's kinda hard to miss, he's blue and white with yellow spots and --- ah! hold on, i've actually got photos! ❞ it'd be way easier to just show xion than just describe it ...

sora pulls his phone out, tapping and swiping until he got to the photos he had of meow wow. ❝ here! see? that's him! isn't he super cute? ❞

"Yeah, I mean isn't this like the soup aisle...?" Or judging from all of the cans of soup on the shelf, he guessed as much - he wasn't too familiar with this store and its layout though so maybe he was wrong on that count. "Y-You mean we can find ingredients - for free...?! As in, not spending any money on 'em...?!" Now that sounded like a hell of a better plan than just wandering around, aimlessly. "M-Man, lead the way, I'll happily follow you...!"

❝ uh-huh! i mean, we can buy them too i guess ... but it's easier and cheaper to forage them. ❞ not to mention they were more fresh, too. which meant better food! ❝ the trick is to look in the corners of places! mushrooms you can usually find in overgrown grass ... but i guess there isn't really any here, huh? ❞ hmmm ... well, no worries! he's pretty sure he's got one or two left still. ❝ if you see any food containers, you can find some pretty good stuff there, too! ❞
