Owen Jones was right.

Owen Jones is a gay journalist who was being interviewed by Sky News about the Orlando shootings. Whilst there, he was treated in a disgusting manner and eventually stormed out. He pointed out the lack of LGBT+ voices talking about the tragedy and, most controversially, told the interviewer that he couldn’t understand because he wasn’t gay.

It’s true. If you’re not a member of the community, you can’t understand fully but that doesn’t mean you can’t feel pain and disgust for the tragedy. You, however, have the luxury of picking it up and dropping it again when it ceases to be relevant to you. For us, this will ALWAYS be relevant. And here’s why:

That man in Orlando doesn’t just hate gays in Orlando. He doesn’t just hate gays in America. He hates gay people in general. He hates me. The only - only - thing which saved me is a fortunate matter of circumstance. I wasn’t there. Any LGBT+ person from anywhere in the world could, theoretically, have been there. The only reason he didn’t shoot us is because we weren’t within firing range.

Think about that. We are currently living our lives knowing that the only reason we’re still alive right now is because we stayed home or because we were fortunate enough to be born elsewhere. That man hated me. He hated people like me. He would have shot me and the only reason he didn’t is because I wasn’t there.

I’m going to try to put in words how I feel. First I have loved somebody else since I heard it live for the first time, it is defiantly one of my favorites. I like it better live but it’s still amazing. The part that really got me emotional was when they “interviewed” matty. I have never felt so loved by a band. They are so humble and dedicated to the “hardcore fans” people like me that have been there since the beginning. They know how we feel about them becoming much more popular but they still think of us. They put so many indirects and quotes and inside jokes in their new album that only the “hardcore” fans will understand. They are always thinking of us and I just feel so loved by this band.
