Happy Pride month to everyone LGBTQ+ but especially to:
• those living in places and communities where they have to hide who they are just to remain safe
• those who made the bold decision to go no-contact with their families but still have a heavy heart over it
• those who are still in contact with their families but have deeply complicated relationships with them
• those who are struggling to accept who they are due to the way they were brought up
• those who went through or are currently forced into conversion therapy of any kind
• those in forced or lavender marriages they don't see an exist out of
• those for whom this month doesn't bring any joy or comfort cause all they get is a reminder about how scarily cruel the world still is
• those who lost queer loved ones due to neglect, hatred or depression
• all those whose lives were taken because they dared to simply exist
easy to forget but book jon snow is great actually. he gets so drunk he cries in his first chapter. he's 16 years old and laser focused on loan negotiation. he keeps getting promoted against his will. he's the chosen fantasy protagonist with the worst genre awareness ever. he implements pro immigration social reforms. he has a giant albino pet wolf. he cuts a guy's head off. he thinks he invented cunnilingus. he's been dead for 15 years.
I am so fucking sick of DC fanon making women exclusively mature and Wise and So Much Smarter Than The Dumb Boys god fucking FORBID a woman show a sliver of personality that isn't being Better than the Men. God forbid Diana fucks up and isn't the Wise Woman of the JL or Jessica is irrational or Stephanie is immature or Carol is mean or Selina is impulsive or Cassie childish or Artemis is rude you people beg for more stories about women but clutch your pearls when it's not about them being Girlbosses and God Look at How Dumb The Boys Are Aren’t Women So Much Better For Not Doing That.

As of today, it's been 1203 days (approximately 3 years and 3 1/2 months) since DC published an ongoing comic book centering a Black character in its mainline continuity. I'm using this poll to bring awareness to some Black characters who I think could use some love. Fem edition.
If anyone was wondering why Mr. Terrific isn't here, it's because every time he gets talked about in relation to the lack on ongoings for Black characters, i have to explain that the miniseries they gave him isn't the same thing. But, yes. He absolutely should have received an ongoing after Superman 2025 and it's crazy that they chose not to give him one.
so I'm sitting thinking this kid is giving Tim a once over so thorough that it feels frankly flirtatious
and wouldn't you know it
ah, there he is. that motherfucker.

hey everypony !! since i’m supporting the DCblackout boycott, i figured i’d make a small info post with links and summaries !!
DCblackout:
DCblackout is the second stage of the DCsowhite discussion that took place earlier this year, which pointed out that DC hasn’t publtished a solo, on-going black title in over 1200 days
DCblackout has 3 main goals: 1. establish and announce 1-3 black on-going titles (with black creative teams) that have cancellation immunity for a minimum of 2 years, 2. educate fans on how sales work so they can accurately support the titles they love, & 3. greenlight a power company book if the titles do well (which would help a fanbase grow)
the goal of DCblackout is to raise awareness of the lack of black DC stories and give fans heroes they can relate to and see themselves in.
blackgirlnerds.com
their official public statement is as follows:
bleedingcool.com
DCsowhite and why now:
DCsowhite brought attention to the fact that there has been no black on-going title in over 1200 days. the last title was ‘I Am Batman’, which ran from 2021-2023 and ended on its #18 issue.
dc heavily relies on mini-runs or one shots for black characters, and black female characters receive even less.
james portis III (aka JPenumbra) posted a piece to comicsbeat.com focusing on the issue.
comicbeats.com
this has been an issue for a long time, but it doesn’t have to continue this way !! below is a link to the DCblackout petition, and blow that are links to JPenumbra’s original piece, the DCblackout website, and blackgirlnerds.com and bleedingcool.com’s pieces (in that order).
#DCSoWhite: End the Black Superhero Drought
It has now been 1171 days since the last time DC published an ongoing series for a Black character in their mainline continuity
DCBlackout - a DC Comics boyocott.
Following the viral #DCSoWhite conversation, creators demand sustained investment, visibility, and accountability for Black representation
DC Blackout: a DC Comics fan boycott launches after 1200 days without an ongoing DC Universe comic book series with a black lead character
Anyway, I know that a lot of people here on tumblr do not actually buy comics, but I do want to encourage people to think about what you can do to support DCBlackout. I know that I am not a person who's purchases drive metrics at DC comics. I only put in a preorder for comics once in a blue moon, I read digitally, and I buy collected editions, but yesterday I canceled my dcui subscription and while the boycott continues, I'm not going to renew it. While I'll probably still get dc comics through second hand sources here and there, I'm not going to buy any new comics from them either.
There should be more opportunities for black creators at DC and there should be more stories for characters like Nubia, Steel, Vixen, The Signal, Mr Terrific, everyone from Milestone and more.
Even if you're not a comics buyer, you can still sign the petition and you can share your favorite independent comics from black creators. I'll start: Everyone should read Prince of Cats by Ronald Wimberly.
Try and seek out new works and expand your horizons. That's what I'll be doing.
Deeply unfriendly reminder that studs are Black. That White woman is not a stud. That Asian woman is not a stud. That Hispanic woman is not a stud. Non-Black lesbians may be masc or butch, but they cannot be studs. Stop calling them that and stop calling yourselves that.
“I don’t like this expression “First World problems.” It is false and it is condescending. Yes, Nigerians struggle with floods or infant mortality. But these same Nigerians also deal with mundane and seemingly luxurious hassles. Connectivity issues on your BlackBerry, cost of car repair, how to sync your iPad, what brand of noodles to buy: Third World problems. All the silly stuff of life doesn’t disappear just because you’re black and live in a poorer country. People in the richer nations need a more robust sense of the lives being lived in the darker nations. Here’s a First World problem: the inability to see that others are as fully complex and as keen on technology and pleasure as you are.”

i think a lot of white queer/trans people need to hear that "breaking gender norms" isnt just wearing a dress while masc or dying your hair. its also unlearning the beauty standards that impose ideals of white beauty and attractiveness on non-white folks. yes you have a nose ring but i just heard you tell your black friend with meticulously cared for natural hair "you'd just look so nice with straight hair is all im saying..." why does your blog fetishizing i mean uh. appreciating trans women only feature skinny white women who pass. when societal gender norms are so inextricably tied to whiteness and emulating whiteness it is not enough to simply change your aesthetic. you need to defy the gender norms in your own head too.
fun fact! the original draft of this was about native features, but i changed my examples bc historically my native-centered posts get basically no notes compared to my other social-justice/activism posts :) which definitely doesn't frustrate me at all as a queer native american. anyways reminder that gender roles are informed by culture and what you (white person reading this) consider "gender non-conforming" might in fact be a gender-conforming feature in their culture!
I actually do think we should discourage women from becoming housewives. Do not become financially dependent on a man. That's how a lot of women ended up dead over the years. A man gets violent suddenly and you have to choose between homelessness or potentially dying at his hand because you have an enormous gap in your resume and no degrees or certifications or anything that will help you pursue a career that will allow you to be financially independent. He owns your bank account. His name is probably the one on the car. Try and leave and he can report it stolen. Where will you go then?
Don't become a housewife.
And if you do become a housewife, take steps to protect yourself. Make sure you’re legally married, for starters; stay-at-home girlfriends have very little legal recourse to claim their partner’s assets in a breakup. Make sure your name is on the house deed/rental agreement, and have your car in your name, even if your spouse is paying for it. Have your spouse transfer money every month into an account solely in your name, so you can buy yourself things without needing permission, but also so you can save up to leave if needed.
If your spouse fights you on any of this, then don’t quit your job. The tradwife to poverty pipeline is real, and so is financial abuse.
also, many women/people experience controlling behaviour and domestic violence from their partner for the first time during pregnancy. don’t risk thinking “he’s just stressed, it’ll get better when the baby comes” because it won’t. neither you and your child will ever be safe with that man. get out as early and safely as you can
its time to give bernard his car back
