âĄď¸ Content warnings on fiction are a courtesy.Â
âĄď¸ Not every medium of fiction and storytelling has or is expected to have content warnings or extensive tagging.
âĄď¸ Print novels do not traditionally warn for content in any way.
âĄď¸ Until AO3 came along, fanfiction did not traditionally warn for content in any significant way.
âĄď¸ An author is only obligated to warn for content to the degree mandated by the format they publish their fiction on.
âĄď¸ Content warnings beyond the minimum are a courtesy, not an obligation.
âĄď¸ 'Creator chose not to warn' is a valid tag that authors are allowed to use on AO3. It means there could be anything in there and you have accepted the risk. 'May contain peanuts!'
âĄď¸ Writers are allowed to use 'Creator chose not to warn' for any reason, including to maintain surprise and avoid spoilers.
âĄď¸ 'Creator chose not to warn' is not the same thing as 'no archive warnings apply'.
âĄď¸ It is your responsibility to protect yourself and close a book, or hit the back button if you find something in fiction that you're reading that upsets you.
âĄď¸ You are responsible for protecting yourself from fiction that causes you discomfort.

btw dating sucks as a concept.
meeting up with someone with the explicit goal of figuring out whether or not you want a relationship with them spoils the dynamic. it sucks. it's terrible. fall in love with your friends like normal people.
Everytime this gets a note when its nowhere near christmas I question my sanity just a little bit more
No, it is July, stop that, stop giving this notes, you guys have lost reblogging privileges
Stop writing your extrovert as someone who never shuts up and is exhausting to be around. That's a bad extrovert, not extroversion. A well-written extrovert thinks out loud, they don't know what they feel until they're saying it to someone. They use conversation to process. What looks like oversharing is actually them figuring themselves out in real time. They need the other person there not to listen but to exist. The other person being in the room is what makes the thought happen. Write that. It's fascinating.
please do not let your monotonous days and the tendency to isolate yourself deviate and distract you from your visions and goals in life. let it mean something and have a grip on you.
as you get older, you realize that youâre not always right and thereâs so many things you couldâve handled better, so many situations where you couldâve been kinder and all you can really do is forgive yourself and let your mistakes make you a better person.
this and also the only difference between fanfic writers and writers who sell their own original works as careers is that fanfics arenât monetized. thatâs all.
being a âprofessionalâ writer doesnât mean your works are inherently better than fanfics. Iâve read so many fics that are more professionally written than some published books.
whether or not a piece of writing is monetized has nothing to do with its quality.
I have so much love and respect for women who are honest about their own loneliness but also find the good in it like when audrey hepburn said âI have to be alone very often. Iâd be quite happy if I spent from Saturday night until Monday morning alone in my apartment. Thatâs how I refuelâ and when charlotte bronte said âIÂ care for myself. The more solitary, the more friendless, the more unsustained I am, the more I will respect myselfâ and when jenny slate said âI think Iâve come to terms with the fact that there will always be a ribbon of loneliness running through who I am. But thatâs why I want to do comedy, and why I want to connect with people. You can use that ribbon to be a part of a finer tapestry, or you can choke yourself out with it! Your choice!â and when mary oliver said âwhoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh & exciting - over & over announcing your place in the family of thingsâ
