Today, we had guests over... While I was making tea for them, I could hear my parents talking and laughing loudly in the other room. They were joking about how often they used to fight with each other. So I turned my back to the wall and listened while I waited for the water to boil.
My mother told a story about something that happened more than ten years ago. She had been furious with my father during an argument. At the time, she happened to be holding a sharpened pencil, so she stabbed him in the thigh with it. Ever since then, there's been a small dark mark on his leg.
Sometimes my mother forgets.
"Why do you have this little dark spot here?" she once asked while applying medicine to his leg.
My father replied, "Because you stabbed me with a pencil. Don't you remember?" 😐
My mother just laughed awkwardly.
As for my father, about seven years ago, the two of them got into a fight while traveling together and staying at a hotel. He was extremely angry, but instead of hurting my mother, he punched a wall hard enough to crack it.
The next morning, his hand had swollen badly. My mother had to take him to the hospital, where they discovered he had fractured his wrist.
She ended up taking care of him for several months afterward. My father got his revenge, I suppose. 🤔
And then there was the most recent incident — the one I witnessed myself.
Last year, my mother was furious with my father. Meanwhile, he just sat there, completely oblivious to the fact that he had done anything wrong.
So my mother kicked a glass door as hard as she could. The entire panel shattered.
Her foot was cut open, and blood spread across the floor. Me and my sisters had to clean up the blood and gather the broken glass while my mother drove herself to the hospital.
Only a few weeks later, she asked me, "Wait, why is the door broken?"
I could only sigh. ‘Because you kicked it yourself. Don't you remember...?’ 😒
I'm not surprised that all of this affected me and my siblings. After all, we carry their blood.
When we were children, my youngest sister once threw a tantrum in a shopping mall. My older sister tried to drag her away by the arm, and somehow managed to dislocate her shoulder.
As for me, when I was young, I became so angry at my youngest sister that I threw myself at her and bit her upper arm hard enough to draw blood. Her blood got all over my mouth while she screamed and cried.
An adult pulled me away, and I was scolded for what felt like forever.
But at the time, I felt deeply satisfied. If I could go back and do it again, I probably would.
She deserved it. ☺️ Someone had to teach her where her place was... 🥰
