Reviving this dead blog to say I’m gonna go see Char’s Counterattack in theaters on Thursday wooo
If anyone else in Louisville is going to Tinseltown for it, let me know so I can mooch popcorn off you.
It is time
There’s gonna be an interview with Tomino afterward too
Yas came up with Char’s mask on his own, which Tomino then took to shape his personality, and the idea of Sayla being his sister on the opposite side, which then further shaped Char’s character. This eventually led to him fleshing out Char and giving him relatable motivations even if he was the “bad guy”. Tomino believes that to be a source of why Char is so loved by fans.
Char in the original series was still sort of an adolescent, still growing up. By the time of CCA he’s forced into a leadership position when he’s used to just being a pilot. He can’t be the ruler he wants, which is why he acts like more of a general than a politician. He feels responsible for all the things in the past he couldn’t change, and wants to do something about them. OYW Char felt despair for the future, CCA Char feels it about the past.
Tomino is grateful for American fans still appreciating such an old movie, and everything he’s created.
And it ended with a teaser for Hathaway’s Flash
(My summaries of Tomino’s answers may be a bit off and if so I apologize. I was trying to type all this while watching/reading the interview lol)
